Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race Postponed
The Royal Ocean Racing Club has issued a statement announcing that the start of the 2014 edition of the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race has been postponed.
The decision has been taken to postpone the start of the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race 2014 by 21 hours. The new start time will be 0900 on Monday 11th August 2014.
The Race Committee took this decision after receiving advice that the low pressure system known as Bertha is moving more slowly than previously predicted, with the result that the forecast winds for the start and the immediate period afterwards includes sustained winds of 40 knots with gusts in excess of 50 knots in the English Channel.
The advice is that this delay will allow time for the severe winds to abate as the low pressure system moves North East.
Laser, Laser Radial and 470 Fleets Bring Aquece Rio To A Close
The Aquece Rio - International Sailing Regatta 2014 has drawn to a close with the Laser, Laser Radial and 470 honours being picked up on the final day of action.
The Laser and Laser Radial gold medals went the way of Tom Burton (AUS) and Anne Marie Rindom (DEN). Mat Belcher and Will Ryan (AUS) made sure of Men's 470 gold whilst Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie (NZL) clinched the Women's 470 honours.
Racing on the Pão de Açucar race track, a south easterly breeze in between 5-10 knots allowed all the fleets to conclude their racing. The breeze died towards the latter part of the afternoon as the Women's 470 wrapped up proceedings.
Attention now turns to the Santander 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championship which takes place in northern Spain from 8-21 September 2014. The Santander 2014 ISAF Worlds is the first Olympic Qualification regatta for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition. 50% of Rio 2016 spots will be decided in Santander.

Three New ORC World Champions
Kiel, Germany: As if an intentional counterpoint to the light winds found during most of this week, the final day and final race of the 2014 ORC World Championship had strong gusty winds, alternating rain and sun, and the same steep choppy waves that are so famous for Kiel.
In these conditions new champions were born and the remaining podium positions filled after nine races among the 151 entries from 19 countries in this event. In all, the podium was filled with teams from Italy, Germany, Estonia, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
On the strength of their domination of Class C and the Jury's dismissal of an attempt to re-open a protest last night against them and two dozen other entries, Giuseppe Giuffre's Low Noise from Italy knew they had earned their third World title crown and did not have to brave the wind and rain today.
While not quite as dominant in Class B as Low Noise was in Class C, Jaak Jogi's X-41 Forte was in a similar situation last night when they too learned they won the title for their native Estonia and would have the day off.
Corinthian Trophy winners among all-amateur teams in each class included Kai Mares's Immac One4All (6th in Class A), Checkmate (Class B), and Team Pro4U (Class C).

The 33rd Copa Del Rey Mapfre Crowns Its Champions
The 33rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE finished today in Palma de Mallorca. The bay of Palma reaffirmed its reputation with good wind conditions throughout the week, and only added a little bit more excitement on the final day with an irregular wind that reduced the sailing schedule to a single race. The names of the eight winners were decided in the last race of the championship.
The champions of the 33rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE are Americans "Shockwave" (Gaastra IRC 0) and "Quantum Racing" (Barclays 52 Super Series), Italians "Hurakan" (Gaastra IRC 1) and "Lelagain" (Nespresso X 35), Russian "Bronenosec" (Gazprom Swan 60), and Spaniards "Rats on Fire" (BMW ORC 1), "Movistar" (BMW ORC 2) and "Noticia" (Herbalife J80).
The 34th Copa del Rey MAPFRE will be held from August 1st to the 8th 2015.

Americas Cup Announcement Gives Little Away
The entry deadline came and the entry deadline went but news was sparse about what was nevertheless described as "a strong line-up of teams" wanting to contest the next America's Cup in 2017. Expectations had been that at least the number of teams would be disclosed although the world had been warned that they would not be named.
The three short paragraphs statement - one of which was to say there will be a press conference in London in a month's time - went on to say: "America's Cup organisers are now working through the second stage of the entry process with each of these teams. This is expected to finish by August 20th."
There is no doubt surrounding Britain's Ben Ainslie-led team to represent the Royal Yacht Squadron. Sweden's Artemis team took over as the lead challenger in San Francisco last time. Emirates Team New Zealand, a former cup holder and the ultimate challenger last time, has made public its intention to be back. The Prada-backed Italians were also there last time and have been in the game for years. The French are a known quantity and well versed in challenging for a trophy which goes back to 1851.
The thought that any of them would be rejected is ludicrous, further delay does none of them nor the event any favours, and filling an extra 11 days with "working through the second stage" should test even the most enthusiastic exponents of finding work to fill the time available. Frustrating Start to the 2014 International Star Class Eastern Hemisphere Championship
Brunnen, Switzerland: On Race Day 1 of the 2014 International Star Class Eastern Hemisphere Championship today, the eager competitors were met with shifty and inconsistent winds, long postponements, and a race-less afternoon.
Around 3:00 pm, the new First Warning signal time, conflicting winds began their battle and the Race Committee postponed the racing further. Because of the 180 degree shifts and dramatic pressure changes, the Race Committee moved the Star fleet back up the lake and within an hour later, sent them to the harbour to wait on shore once again.
Just after the whole fleet made it ashore, the Fohn wind filled in strong with puffs up to 35mph. The Race Committee then abandoned racing for the day and postponed the start of Race 1 until tomorrow, Race Day 2. At 7PM CET Race Committee will publish the official time for the First Warning of Race 1 and hopefully conditions will be stable enough to complete 3 full races.
Who Will Be The 505 King Of Kiel?
With more than 170 teams entered from 16 nations, the SAP 505 World Championship is shaping up to be one of the toughest challenges on the international sailing circuit this year. The event starts on 13 August, and is being hosted by Kieler Yacht Club on the site of the 1972 Olympic Regatta.
The third biggest Worlds entry in the 60-year history of the class, the list is peppered with some of the greatest names in the sport. Jørgen Bojsen-Møller may have won an Olympic gold medal in the Flying Dutchman class at the Seoul Games in 1988, but a 505 world title has yet eluded him. Sailing with his brother Jacob, the Danish duo have twice finished runner-up, the last occasion being two years ago at La Rochelle when another Danish skipper - Jan Saugmann - teamed up with German crew Martin Gorge to win.
In Barbados last year the Germans filled the podium, with Claas Lehmann and Leon Oehme emerging from a very tight battle to take the world title, with Stefan Boehm and Gerald Roos in 2nd place. The surprise was that Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess managed only 3rd place. Not a bad result by most people's standards, but Hunger is the most successful Five-Oh sailor of all time, with five World Championships to his credit. Reunited with his crew Julien Kleiner, who crewed Hunger to victory in 2010 and 2011, can the Kiel skipper win the world title on home waters?

Hudson Yachts, a Taiwanese boatbuilder with a factory in Xiamen used to be the Asia builder for the J-80.
The deal fell apart so Hudson Wang decided to build - well a clone might be a good description.
Plumb the bow, open the transom, give it heaps less ballast and call it an X-80 instead of a J-80.
