Spindrift And Actual Win Into Dun Laoghaire, Ireland
Crossing the line at 04h 37' 48'' TU (05h 37'48" local time Dublin) Spindrift won the 990 miles stage which started from Lisbon on Sunday afternoon, adding 40 race points to the 2 bonus points that they landed at the Cascais scoring mark Sunday evening. Now the current 2012 MOD70 class champions top the Route des Princes leaderboard by six points from Sebastien Josse's crew on Edmond de Rothschild.
Dun Laoghaire's Dublin Bay finish lived up to its reputation among the MOD70 class for delivering cliffhanger finishes. Although Spindrift had a mile in hand with three to go, some of that margin was ultimately eroded by the intense duel behind but they slipped across the line to win by six minutes and 44 seconds.
From third place when they had a deficit of two miles behind last night's leader Oman Air-Musandam, Edmond de Rothschild, Seb Josse's team glided through to steal second across the line by just one single boat length - 33 seconds to be exact after 2 days and 15 hours of racing.

Challenging Conditions For Figaro Final Leg
The fourth and final leg of La Solitaire du Figaro 2013 sets sail at 1300 local time (1100 UTC) Thursday from Roscoff bound for Dieppe.
Yesterday a severe forecast predicting winds gusting to gale force 9 caused the race organisers to shorten the course for leg 4, but today conditions are looking improved, albeit with winds still gusting to 30+ knots ahead of a front scheduled due to cross the forty singlehanded sailors on Saturday.
Leg 4 now takes the 33ft long Beneteau Figaro 2s from Roscoff around and down the western side of Ouessant, then 23 miles south to the turning mark, the Chaussee de Sein buoy (off the Raz de Sein), before returning north through the Chenal du Four between Ouessant and the French mainland. From there the boats cross the English Channel to Wolf Rock off Land's End, before heading east along the coast of the UK, shaving the Lizard and Start Point. Next they round the Needles Fairway Buoy off the western end of the Solent before recrossing the English Channel to a mark off Le Havre before continuing east to the finish off Dieppe.
Total mileage for this course is 520, with the boats set to arrive on Saturday night.
Currently in 10th overall, Sam Goodchild (Shelterbox-Disaster Relief) is still gunning to achieve the best British finishing position since Clare Francis' 5th place in 1975. In the race's recent history Sam Davies finished 19th twice in 2003-4 while Phil Sharp was 18th in 2011.
Ireland's David Kenefick (Full Irish) is hoping for a strong finale to his first Solitaire du Figaro. "I am disappointed with where I am going into the last leg, but that's life I guess." At 22, Kenefick is the youngest competitor in the race and is lying 31st out of 41 starters.
"It is amazing to be here and be part of it," he says. "I have followed the race for years so it is quite funny to be here. I have always wanted to do this race and it is very different when you are in it.
"I am very surprised how friendly all the competitors are. You walk along the dock and everyone says hello to each other. And the competition is unbelievable: There is no one missing from this event. There are no better sailors than Yann Elies, Michel Desjoyeaux, Armel le Cleac'h, Jeremie Beyou, Morgan Lagraviere, etc."
Clipper Skippers Are Safety Briefed By Ocean Safety
The start of the Clipper Round the World Race is only 12 weeks away and important preparations are underway as the twelve skippers and amateur crews prepare themselves for their adventure of a lifetime.
No aspect is more important than safety training and right now Ocean Safety is busy delivering a comprehensive list of safety equipment to each of the identical yachts. The skippers have just been familiarised with the Kru Professional lifejackets and shown how they operate, in two in-depth training sessions held by Ocean Safety's Training Manager, Chris Waterman.
Chris demonstrated the Kru Professional's added spray hood, lifejacket light and SRS R10 fitting point. The Kru lifejackets are especially designed to be slimline for offshore sailors wearing them for long periods and are custom manufactured in cordura to match the event's corporate identity. A bespoke crutch strap system uses metal buckles instead of plastic for extra strength.
Ocean Safety will supply more equipment as well - the rugged Exposure torches as already used by previous ocean racing teams and national rescue bodies, plus a host of other potential life savers including pyrotechnics, Jonbuoy MOB systems and liferafts. The skippers had previously undertaken a sea survival course using Ocean Safety's liferafts which are supplied to the yachts.
Big Boats Rousted - Smallest Entry Takes Top Prize

Paget, Bermuda: Based on provisional results, Roust, the smallest boat in the fleet, and a boat sailed double-handed as well, has won the top prize in the 2013 Marion Bermuda Race. The little Sea Sprite 34, skippered by Ian Gumprect of Oyster Bay NY and co-skippered by Mark Swanson of North Creek NY, won Class C and overall 1st Place in the Founders Division. At the prizegiving Saturday at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, Ian and Mark will hoist the Founders Trophy for their exemplary performance.
Roust finished at 7:38:14 Wednesday morning. With their corrected time of 3d 17:44:35, Roust also won Class C on their way to the top prize.
Skipper and co-skipper were tired after the race and had to get towed in to the dinghy club because their engine wouldn't start. It had worked all during the race to charge their batteries so the could use their autopilot. They chose to use the auto helm because they believe it can actually steer better than any human.
Ian and Mark said they think they probably sailed further west than any other boat and that helped them win when they carried a sustained wind from the west after the Northeast wind passed.
The winner of Class A was Gardner Grant 's J/120 Alibi from Westport CT was also sailed double-handed with co-skipper Stephen Fisk. Alibi's corrected time was 4d 01:53:12.
Spirit Of Bermuda, as the sole entry in the Classic Yacht Division, will win the inaugural Captain Ed Williams Trophy for the classic yacht with the best corrected time. The 112 foot long Spirit was co-chartered by Bermudian Preston Hutchings and Patrick McGee of Dallas TX and sailed by a crew of 32 men and women.
Shindig the biggest boat in the Founders Division finished more than a day earlier than Roust. The Andrews 68-footer took line honors by finishing the 645 nm course at 4:55:13 ADT/3:55:13 EDT on Tuesday morning June 18. Shindig wins the Blue Water Sailing Club Board of Governors Trophy.
The fully crewed US Naval Academy Navy 44 Mk II, NA22, Integrity won class B with a corrected time of 3d 22:40:00. The skipper was Mario Avila. -- Talbot Wilson

Noble Marine Insurance Musto Performance Skiff National Championship
The Musto Performance Skiff National Championships saw a 40 strong fleet enjoying fantastic conditions off Highcliffe Sailing Club from 13th - 16th June.
The championships started with a postponement then a cancellation of racing for the day due to high winds.
With the competitors eager to make up for having lost the first day due to strong winds. Four races were sailed on Friday in a westerly 10-14 kts with glorious sunshine and a healthy swell entering the Western Solent.
The final race got underway with Henderson attacking very aggressively and pushing Keen out from the starboard end of the line created pressure for the overall title. As the wind dropped Sam Barker raced an excellent second lap finishing just behind Henderson but Keen had pulled through to take 3rd and with this secured the 2013 title.
A big thank you to Highcliffe Sailing Club's Paul and Sue Walker, Simon Mussell and their team who put on some superb sailing and entertained the fleet with some great socials.

Beginning Thursday this week the Danish Open Ladies Cup, hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club, will be the third event on the inaugural 2013 Women's International Match Racing Series. Nine of the world's foremost women match racing sailors gather in Skovshoved, just north from capital Copenhagen, to fight for precious WIMRS-points and a prize purse of 12 500 USD.
Only ten days after the completion of the second event on the 2013 Women's International Match Racing Series, the Busan Cup and the 2013 ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship, time has come for the next stop. Following some excellent results lately, with her silver medal in the Busan Worlds as the most important, Camilla Ulrikkeholm has just today reached the position as ISAF World Ranking number one! She is now looking very much forward to some great racing on her home waters.

Double Sydney Hobart Winner Set For Magnetic Island Race Week

One of Australia´s most successful big boat sailors and tourism industry scion, the dual Sydney to Hobart winner Bob Steel has entered his 52 footer Quest in the 2013 SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week. Steel won the 2002 and 2008 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Races, the first with his Nelson Marek 46 footer Quest and the second of those with the boat he will be sailing on Cleveland Bay, the big TP52 Quest.
Steel has a great offshore record and has also had great success on the regatta circuit.
He was named the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's Ocean Racer of the Year in 2003 following that 2002 Rolex Sydney Hobart win and in the same year was named Australian IRC Offshore Champion.
A very strong supporter of the Northern series he has been a multiple winner at Hamilton Island Race Week.
'Major regattas are important for the tourism industry and Townsville and Magnetic are building a regatta so we should get up there and give them a bit of a hand.
'The boats in good shape, we have new carbon rigging and were have gone to the square top main and lots of new sails so we show be quite competitive this year.
A Perfect Day For A J

The first day of the Superyacht Cup proved to be a fantastic opportunity to showcase the powerful J's. Conditions in the bay of Palma were predictably perfect with the early afternoon sea breeze averaging 15-19 knots and wave height of only 1.5m, a contrast to the last battle of the J's in St Barths - teams today were anticipating that the flatter more protected sea would provide a more level playing field where tactics and team work would be paramount.
At the last windward mark, Hanuman retained first, followed by Ranger four minutes later. The tousle was now on between Rainbow, Lionheart and Velsheda, who were covering tack for tack.
The last downwind leg was glorious, a true spectacle that all had come to be party to. It was a close race, after two hours all 5 J's crossed the line within five minutes of one another.
On corrected time Hanuman won by one and half minutes, Ranger took second with the closest finish between Lionheart and Rainbow whose positions were reversed on handicap with Lionheart taking third by eleven seconds.
Tomorrow will see the first race for the 15 Superyachts, and the second windward leeward for the J's.

Edmund Whelan, Barrister (Middle Temple), yachtsman, former RYA Deputy Secretary General and legal affairs manager died recently (8 May 2013) after a short but typically spirited fight with cancer.
Edmund started sailing as a small boy in enterprises and Albacores, but it was in yacht racing where he really made his mark. Starting on RORC and Admirals Cup boats in the late 60s through to Three Quarter and Half Tonners in the late 70s, Impalas (National Champion) and J/24s in 80s, and still racing in RORC and Sigma 38s through the 80s and 90s.
He and his wife, Teresa, competed successfully for three decades in JOG, RORC and Royal Southampton double-handed series, winning many events. From 2000 they successfully campaigned their X-342 Xarifa inshore and offshore.
His work for the RYA started in 1981 when he was appointed as the Legal and Government Affairs and General Purposes Manager. It was in this role, and latterly as the deputy CEO, that he came to help hundreds of yachts clubs and yachtsmen around the country deal with legal matters.
He leaves a wife, Teresa, three children, eight grandchildren and many hundreds of friends from the sailing family across the globe.
