Top Match Racing Women Ready For Korea
The inaugural Women's International Match Racing Series is in Korea for the second event. Nine world-class sailors will race June 5 - 9 for coveted Series points and a championship title in the ISAF Women's Match Racing Worlds in Dongbaek Park, Haeundae Beach in Busan. London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Tamara Echegoyen hasn't been on the match racing scene since taking third place here in Busan at her latest event, in October 2012. In the meantime she has kicked off a new Olympic campaign in the 49er FX, and now she's looking forward to sailing some match racing again.
Ekaterina Skudina of Russia is currently holding second place on the ISAF World Match Racing Ranking, coming to the Busan event with a partially new crew
Katie Spithill, Australia, has spent the latest six months on maternity leave with her baby daughter. With the team members currently residing in three different countries, and with different focuses on work, study & family, they are looking forward to getting back out on the water for some fun.
Also enjoying being back on the match racing scene is former Olympian Anna Kjellberg of Sweden, who has formed a new and talented team of ambitious young sailors

Dubois Cup 2013 Goes To Genevieve

Porto Cervo, Italy: The fourth edition of the Dubois Cup, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and Dubois Naval Architects, concluded yesterday with the victory of Genevieve, a 37-metre sloop owned by Tom Saylak and built by Alloy Yachts. The 50-metre sloop Zefira, built by Fitzroy Yachts and flying the YCCS burgee took second place ahead of the 30-metre Nostromo with Olympic champion Jesper Bank calling tactics. The event, held from 1st to 3rd June, saw 14 Dubois-designed sailing yachts gather in Porto Cervo, seven of which competed over two days of regattas on the waters of the Costa Smeralda.
Barry Houghton's 45 metre Salperton - also flying the YCCS burgee and with Olympic champion Shirley Robertson at the helm - won day two at the conclusion of a race sailed under a sizzling sun and against the backdrop of the granite islands of the La Maddalena archipelago with around 8 to 12 knots of easterly breeze. Second place went to Zefira, with America's Cup sailor Flavio Favini aboard, while third place for Genevieve, coupled with a bullet on day one, was enough to take her to overall victory.
The next edition of the Dubois Cup is scheduled for June 2015, however the YCCS sporting calendar continues immediately with the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta from 4th to 8th June. Twenty-one sailing giants ranging from 24 to 50 metres now line the quays of Porto Cervo Marina with racing scheduled to start at 12 midday on Wednesday 5th June.

Egor Terpigorev Wins First International Universty Sailing Cup
Moscow hosted the first International University Sailing Cup, which was held under endorsement of the International Univesrity Sports Federation (FISU) prior to the World University Summer Games - Universiade "Kazan 2013" – from May 28 to June 2. The event was organised by the Russian Finn Association and Russian Sports Students Union.
Sixteen sailors (including two women) from seven nations (Great Britain, France, Italy, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Russia) fought for the first International Cup in students sport in the Finn class.
The Race Committee was headed by experienced PRO Pierluidgi De Luise (ITA), and the jury was international: with representatives from Italy, Greece, Romania and Russia
The regatta started with light winds so the race committee only managed to carry out only two races on the first day. Peter McCoy (GBR), a British student from Plymouth University, England, won the first race, while the second race was won by Egor Terpigorev (RUS) from the Moscow sailing school Khlevnikovo.
On the last day, it was planned to carry out one medal race and one final race in the front of the Moscow Sailing School. But the good wind conditions of that day and strong desire of all sailors to continue the battle on the water moved organisers to keep the racing area at the same place as before and to carry out another two fleet races before the medal race.
The first race of the last day was won by Arkadiy Kistanov (RUS) with Terpigorev in second. The second race of that day went to Terpigorev. He approached on the leader, Filippov, both on equal points before the medal race, while Kistanov was in third with Ignatiev and Konstantin Lashuk (BLR) very close behind.
The medal race decided the final order of the leaders. Terpigorev managed to win the duel with Filippov, while Kistanov saved his third place, although it was done with zero margin right to the end.

Neilpryde To Sponsor UK Laser Nationals
The UK Laser Association are delighted to welcome on board NeilPryde as the Title Sponsors for the UK Laser Nationals being sailed under the burgee of Paignton Sailing Club between the 3rd & 9th August.
The championship, which regularly attracts over 250 sailors, is returning to the Devon club for the first time since 2009. Entries have already been received from both Ireland and New Zealand and with the Men's World Radial Laser Championships in Ireland a couple of weeks after this regatta there is a strong possibility that there will be many more foreign helms attending.

Flying Dutchman Worlds
Balatonfoldvar, Hungary: The Flying Dutchman World Championship has concluded in with Dutch sailors Enno Kramer and Aad Geelkerken taking the title.
The penultimate race was sailed in shifty winds as Kramer and Geelkerken took the race win to secure the World Championship in style. The Dutch team showed super consistency in their performances throughout the week with their worst score a fifth.
The fleet had to wait in thunderstorms for the wind to stabilize to start the final race. The end of game excitement clearly filled the air, Race 9 got under way with a black flag start after four general recalls. Eighteen boats were disqualified for premature start, among them the Danish Bojsen-Moller brothers who had to settle for bronze. The final race win went the way of Hungarian boat Kardos-Polgar with excellent performance.

Hydroptere left San Francisco Saturday May 25 and arrived two days after in Los Angeles.
Aboard the trimaran, Alain Thebault, Jean Le Cam, Jacques Vincent and Yves Parlier were accompanied by Warren Fitzgerald, the Boat Captain and Jeff Mearing, in charge of electronics and measurement systems.
Hydroptere is currently moored at the Cabrillo Way Marina in San Pedro, near Los Angeles. Some sailing sessions are planned before the start of the [Pacific] record's stand-by.

Swiss Entry Announced For Clipper Race
For the first time in its eight-race history the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will feature a Swiss-sponsored yacht after Swiss Sailing signed an agreement to become a Team Partner for the 2013-14 edition of the world's longest ocean race.
Swiss Sailing was founded in 1939 and counts 146 sailing clubs and 46 boat classes as members to Switzerland's umbrella organisation for sailing, kite and windsurfing. It is one of the major goals of Swiss Sailing to promote sailing among young people. This year more than 21,000 sailors of all age groups received a regatta license to compete.
Switzerland will be allocated one of the fleet of twelve brand new matched Clipper 70 ocean racing yachts, owned and operated by race operators Clipper Ventures, each of which is sponsored by a destination, business or organisation to carry their name around the world.
Switzerland will also carry the logo of Mercy Ships, raising awareness for the hospital ship charity which provides free surgery and medical care. Mercy Ships partners with local communities to improve health care, offering training and advice, materials and hands-on assistance in Africa and around the world.
Fife Regatta
Twenty yachts have confirmed their attendance at the prestigious Fife Regatta which is now less than four weeks away. Making passage from California to Scotland will be Fife's 1923 yacht Astor(86ft). She is a Schooner design, two masts, with a very attractive sail plan and will be a major attraction to enthusiasts and admirers.
The event will commence on the 28th June with the yachts congregating in Largs Yacht Haven and larger vessels anchoring in the Largs channel. This is only 2 miles north of the village of Fairlie where the Fife Boat Yard once stood. Racing and passage cruises will take place through to Friday 5th July with an itinerary offering great sailing, scenery and Scottish hospitality.
William Fife followed in the footsteps of his father who designed many yachts including Ayrshire Lass who dates back to 1887, making her 126 years old. She will be our most senior participant in the event and it is with great excitement that she will set sail after a few years of rest ashore. The event not only includes the oldest sailing Fife yacht but also the last yacht built by William Fife III at the Fairlie yard in 1938, Solway maid. She will be sailing with her sisters on the Clyde for the fourth time and together with Mignon they will be the only Fife yachts to have competed in all four Fife Regattas, hosted every five years since 1998.
After seven years ashore Kentra, a stunning 100ft Gaff- Ketch, was re-launched at Fairlie Quay on the 29th April. This was a very symbolic occasion given the close proximity to her place of build and launch in 1923. Fairlie and Fife are synonymous and it was a very special way to greet our first entrant of the 2013 Regatta. Kenta is now berthed in Largs Yacht Haven and will soon be joined by Astor,(sail number 88) who together shall celebrate their 90th birthdays this year.
The Real America's Cup
When the current America's Cup media team place photos of the big cats on the events website and describe those photos as 'eye candy,' it's high time to remind the public of the beauty of the J Class yachts. As technically advanced and blazingly fast as the big cats are, the term 'eye candy' is misplaced. The J Class yachts fit that term like no other. Over the next few weeks we'll look at these beautiful yachts that have stood the test of time and are still sailing and racing as an organised class. Were will the AC72's be in more than 70 years from now?

Not Sailing... But Very Cool...
A Gurnard man has rowed round the Isle of Wight to raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
Dave Twyman, 50, completed the challenge after restoring his father's 9ft rowing dinghy.
Dave, who works on the Cowes chain ferry, took on the challenge to thank the hospice for the care given to his father.
He said: "My sister walked the Wight when my dad died of cancer in 2010. She wanted me to take part but it wasn't my forte.
"I told her, if she completed the walk, I would raise funds by attempting to row around the Island."
Dave finally set off at 5.55am on Sunday, May 19, and completed his journey at 1.45am the following day, after 19 hours.
Donations can be made direct to the hospice or via Dave on the Cowes chain ferry.
