ISAF Annual Conference Conference
The culmination of an outstanding year of sailing for Ireland will see hundreds of delegates and observers from 120 nations attend meetings over the 10 day period. Those in attendance will discuss, debate, make recommendations and form decisions on the issues and policies that will take sailing forward into 2013 including choosing the equipment and events for both the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and the 2020 Games.
Also taking place during the conference will be the 2012 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards which will be hosted in the Mansion House on Tuesday the 6th of November and will be televised live.

Yachting New Zealand Statement: The Board Sailing Debate
The ISAF Council is the decision making body of ISAF and is made up of representatives elected by 12 groups of countries, known as Areas. Each country in the Area has one vote in determining matters before Council.
Area L, the South West Pacific, consists of New Zealand, Australia and seven Pacific nations and has two representatives on the Council. These delegates are required by the Constitution to represent the majority views of the countries in Area L at the Council, not those of the individual countries within Area L.
Despite Yachting New Zealand's position on the debate, strong support of kite-boarding from the other countries in Area L means that the majority view from Area L is in support of not reopening the May decision to introduce Kite boarding into the Olympic Games.
Yachting New Zealand President Jan Dawson explains the situation; "Unfortunately at the ISAF Council it is not New Zealand's "personal vote" but the vote of all the countries of Area L South West Pacific. The Councillors must represent what the majority of the countries want and Area L includes nine nations. We have to respect the democratic process."
Australia and the majority of the Pacific Island nations support the decision for kite-board racing to be introduced and as a result the two Area L representatives on the ISAF Council will vote to not re-open the equipment slate decision.
Yachting New Zealand remains in support of Wind Surfing as an Olympic sport for 2016 and this is reflected in a Yachting New Zealand submission to ISAF on the matter made in July.

18ft Skiffs AEG 3-Buoys Challenge, Race 3
Dorron, Mike McKensey and Matt Searle were always well in contention over the four-lap course, sailed in a light North East breeze, and were never in danger of defeat once they took the lead on the third lap.
Pedro Vozone, Sam Ellis and James Slee continued to show improvement in Haier Appliances to finish in second place, just 2s ahead of the early race leader Pure Blonde (Tom Clout, Rob Bell and Stewart Wells).
Fisher & Paykel (Andrew Chapman) finished fourth ahead of Thurlow Fisher Lawyers (Michael Coxon) and Rag & Famish Hotel, skippered by David Witt, who replaced The Rag's regular skipper Jack Macartney.
Thurlow Fisher Lawyers fifth place today was enough to give the Australian champion skipper Michael Coxon and his team the overall points lead in the series.

Garmin Hamble Winter Series / Lewmar Hamble One Design Championship
Saturday was the first day of the final weekend of the Lewmar Hamble One Design Championships. But a ferocious forecast and bitingly cold northerly wind put paid to the plans of the SB20 and J/80 classes, whose racing was cancelled. Only the J/109s ventured out for one race, before racing was called off for the day. One boat lost their rig, which broke above the top spreader, and another two boats had already retired. Steve Maine's J2Eau won the race, around a minute ahead of Jynnan Tonnyx and Yeoman of Wight.
Hopes were high for better conditions on Sunday. Despite the cold morning, competitors were greeted by a much more civilised 11-18 knots from the west. The race team set each class two races from up to Hill Head for the smaller boats, and East Knoll for the bigger boats, to laid gate and leeward marks downwind. SB20s and J/80s in the Lewmar Hamble One Design Championships fleet raced in the mouth of Southampton Water, sailing three races.
After the final three races of the two-weekend Lewmar Hamble One Design Championships on Sunday, Phil Taylor's J.A.T won the J/80 class overall, three points clear of Jon Powell's Betty. In the SB20 class, Geoff Carveth's Sbeed posted an impressive score of three firsts on Sunday, putting them eight points clear at the top of the class ahead of Henri Lloyd/Forelle estates in second. The J/109s raced with the main Garmin Hamble Winter Series fleet. Christopher Palmer's J Taime posted two firsts on Sunday, but this wasn't enough to beat Owain Franks' Jynnan Tonnyx, whose 2 second places on Sunday, was enough put them two points clear overall.

In the main series, the shifty, patchy breeze meant that large gains and losses were there for the taking, and in many classes the status quo was upset by some fantastic displays of tactical sailing.

Marmaris International Race Week
The weather may have been lighter today, but spectators were treated to a full racing schedule, with some impressive battles between skilled, competitive crews. The Marmaris International Race Week already confirms its reputation as an event producing amazing sailing moments. All the way, and including the amazing finish to today's races under a setting sun and against the backdrop of the stunning vistas offered by Turkey's Mediterranean coast.
Many teams like 'Sail & Sail' carried on with their great performances from yesterday; as well as others, like 'Turuncu' in IRC 3 that really shined today. In the IRC 1 Charter, we saw some fierce battles, especially between 'Laloba' and 'Boni Staf Pineapple'. 'Flying Box' was victorious in IRC 1, with 'Strega' a close second - and all this during one of the faster downwind legs so far in Marmaris.

Jeanne Socrates Begins New Circumnavigation Attempt
The 70-year-old has been thwarted in her two previous attempts to complete the voyage without stops on her Najad 380, Nereida.
She was forced to stop on Cape Town for repairs during her first attempt in 2009, which started in Lanzarote.
And a second non-stop event from Victoria in October 2010 ended with a knockdown 100 miles west of Cape Horn the following January. The damage from the knockdown forced her to stop in Ushuaia, Argentina.
However, she did manage to complete the single-handed circumnavigation this August when she sailed back into Victoria, after stopping the Falklands, Cape Town, Tasmania, Tahiti and Hawaii.

First Clipper 70 Arrives in the UK
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Founder and Chairman of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, said: "This is a very exciting time for the Clipper Race. We are particularly looking forward to receiving the first boat and completing our company trials in home waters."
Clipper Race Logistics Partner PSP transported the first Clipper 70 and the second is already en route. Each was loaded onto a vessel in Qingdao in China and transferred by sea to Felixstowe in Suffolk, where the mast and rigging will be fitted locally before the yachts are sailed to the Clipper Race base in Gosport, ready for final fit out, trials and pre-race training.
Naval architect Tony Castro was commissioned to design the new fleet, which features the third generation of Clipper Race yachts. The twelve new yachts will create the world's biggest matched fleet of large ocean racing yachts.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht race is the longest at 40,000 miles. The ninth edition of the unique biennial event starts in summer (UK) 2013 and will take almost a year to complete. It is the only race to train amateurs to cross some of the world's most challenging oceans.

Despite only being first race of season it was close start but Mark Downer, who always dominates in heavy weather, took the first gun It got very gusty, Mark Downer and Graham Sunderland both flooded their boats having to slow down and bail out which enabled Rudy Jurg to pass them and get finishing gun followed by Jo Downer and Graham Sunderland.
On Sunday it could not be a bigger contrast from the previous day, wind from South West, 2 Beaufort and much warmer. This brought 10 boats out and the race officer set out a long course off Silver Beach, Bembridge.
Rudy Jurg and James Meaning took the left of the course in race one with Mark Downer and Graham Sunderland on the right. There was not much in it at first top mark but Rudy Jurg appeared to have an edge in speed and took the gun for race one. In race two it was Graham Sunderland who took the lead but struggled downwind and was passed by Rudy Jurg who took the lead all the way to the finish. With everything to play for in last race to take home the coveted Trafalgar Trophy the leaders all started next to each other but Mark Downer played the tides and wind shifts best and took the gun. James Meaning, who is one of the best sailors in light airs came second and Rudy Jurg in third and thereby taking the winners trophy home.
Next event is Guy Fawkes Trophy 3-4th November. It's hoped that at least 20 boats will make it to the start line.
Flying Jenny 7 Wins HPR Class in US IRC East Coasts
The five-‐race series started with Friday's 29.6-‐mile tour of the central Chesapeake, with a light and shifty northeast breeze giving Interlodge an initial lead until she sailed into a windless hole and watched helplessly while most of the class sailed around her. This opportunity gave Flying Jenny a lead she never lost, with Hannes Waimer's Farr 400 Team Premier and Rod Jabin and Ian Gordon's sistership Annapolis Farr 400 taking second and third, respectively, in this 1.5 point-‐ weighted race.
The remaining four inshore races of the series were sailed on Saturday in a format shortened by the approach of Hurricane Sandy to the mid-‐Atlantic states, with organizers giving teams today to prepare for the storm-‐force winds predicted for the area tomorrow and Tuesday. Three of four of these races were won by Interlodge.
"This was a great opportunity for us to see HPR in action," said Steve Benjamin, a founder of HPR and owner/helmsman of Spookie. "The racing was extremely close on the water, the best-‐sailed boat won the event, and everyone had a great time. I'm excited to see more racing like this in the coming winter season."
