It has taken twenty eight days in total from his departure in Lanzarote to the arrival and emotional return to Cane Garden Bay where he will revisit the place of his accident that paralysed him 25 years ago. This is the fourth time Geoff has sailed the Atlantic, but the first since his life changing accident in 1984 which left him paralysed from the chest down. Geoff and Impossible Dream successfully arrive in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola British Virgin Islands, thus completing his Personal Atlantic voyage. BBC Radio and News making contact with Geoff for arrival interviews as Geoff is reunited with his family. " Phew, what a day yesterday was. Having made the decision to divert to Antigua for emergency fuel to run the ships essential electrical and hydraulic systems, I altered course and we had a great sail through the night. My shore team had investigated several options but we settled on rendezvous'ing at noon local time with the Antigua & Barbuda Search & Rescue team (ABSAR). I was insistent that it should be a ship to ship refuel at sea, not at a marina or at anchor which would constitute making landfall - not that would be a problem but I felt it would take the shine off my arrival in Tortola. We chose Carlisle Bay (just around from Falmouth / English Harbour) as it gave protection from the Atlantic swells. The re-fuelling was textbook - my thanks to Jonathan, Sven, Barbara and Becky from ABSAR and I'm certain the owner of ID will be pleased that not a drop of diesel was spilt on his lovely decks. Within the hour, we were off again, now able to recharge our ships batteries from the engines which meant I could finally stop steering by hand, much to the relief of my right arm, and we could have hot food, the first in days. More good wind and it wasn't long before we were making course for Tortola (ETA 1300 local time, 1700 GMT, Thursday 7th January), sailing up past St Kitts and Nevis, the volcano dramatically backlit by the setting sun, the island lights twinkling along the shoreline. Racing began an hour earlier than scheduled in anticipation of the wind shutting off. After the gold fleet finished, the silver fleet was sent out but no races were held and the silver will be the first start in the morning. The race committee went swimming. On the 29er course, French sailors Kevin Fisher and Glenn Gouron sailed a great day of 1-3-9 to move into first in front of the Danish duo Oscar Haumann and Taus Holtug who have held the spot all week. Max Fraser & David Liebenberg of the US have stayed consistent and move into 3rd overall with Argentines Nahuel Martinez and Axel Vugdelija dropping to 4th. Dragon Australasian Championship - Prince Philip Cup After a long delay waiting for the weather to settle, the race began in a south westerly breeze which freshened as the morning progressed. As expected, activity on the start line was frantic and the first start was aborted by the race committee with seconds to go. The second was subject to a general recall and the third attempt, under a black flag, resulted in a clean start. Both Russian crews were prominent early. Olga White skippering 'Murka 11' emerged at the top mark with a small but decisive lead followed by series leader Richard Lynn skippering 'Puff', and with the second Russian boat ('Murka 12' sailed by Mikhail Muratov) in third place, the scene was set for an enthralling contest. All eyes were on Richard Lynn. Seemingly content to stay with Olga White in the earlier stages, he let the Russian head to the south side of the course and opted to stay near the middle. This tactic worked with the minor players assuming a critical role in the placings. 'Red Baron' narrowly won from Gordon Ingate's 'Whim' and Richard Lynn was elated to finish third, one place ahead of Olga White, to claim the title and the Prince Philip Cup. -- Bernie Kaaks Top ten final places: 1. The Charter for the cup allows any recognized yacht club in North America to participate. If there are multiple entries from either country, eliminations will be conducted in Canada (current Defender) and/or the US (current Challenger) to determine which teams will meet as Challenger and Defender in the finals for the Alexandra Cup. Two 'R' class sloops are currently being restored in Canada. In Vancouver the Lady Van, a 1927 Chas. Nicholson design, is being restored by a syndicate from the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and on Vancouver Island the Aloha, designed in 1923 by Edson B Schock, is being restored by a Sidney North Saanich YC group. Both Canadian groups are targeting mid summer launch dates. The Seattle Yacht Club is placing their hopes on Pirate, a 1926 'R' boat which is already sailing after being immaculately restored by a group from Seattle. All that is required is access to a restored 'R' boat that measures in under the 1927 rules.
