Jury and Berntsson Unbeaten On Day One
Jury (NZL) Kiwi Match Sailing was in excellent form, taking victories against reigning Tour Champion Ian Williams (GBR) GAC Pindar and two-time St. Moritz Match Race winner, Mathieu Richard (FRA) Loire Atlantique Sailing Team who gained a wildcard entry to the event. Jury finished the day by beating compatriot Josh Junior (NZL) Wellington Spirit, leaving himself on the brink of Quarter Final qualification.
Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team also made the most of the first day's sailing, taking three commanding victories from three against Swiss crowd favourite Eric Monnin (SUI) Okalys Corum, who competes in his tenth St. Moritz Match Race, former Tour Champion Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing and young Kiwi Phil Robertson (NZL) WAKA Racing, who was condemned to a third defeat of the day.
With everything still to play for, the St. Moritz Match Race continues with a second qualifying round tomorrow, starting from 11:00AM CET.

Rollerson's Roll Ends Abruptly as C-Tech Builds Lead
But, Grant Rollerson said after Wednesday's three races on unstable San Francisco Bay, "It's not bad luck. You make your own luck."
The Australian veteran finished first and second in the first two races and was leading the third---a make-up of Tuesday's second race that was canceled because of strong winds---when his Mounts Bay W.A. (Western Australia) craft flipped moments after rounding the first windward mark. By the time he and crew Justin Healey and Marco Schurmann managed to right the boat in the churning waters near the Golden Gate Bridge, well . . .
"By the time we got up everyone else was at the bottom mark," Healey said.
So they sailed back to the beach and settled for discarding the last place as a throwout, which kicked in after five races.
Overall, Rollerson moved up from fifth to third in the 18-boat battle, a point behind the USA's Howie Hamlin, whose 3-3-4 day left him seven points behind pacesetting Alex Vallings. The C-Tech team has won three of the six races so far while tossing Wednesday's sixth-place finish.
Wednesday's winds were 15 to 20 knots, relatively mild compared to Tuesday's boat-flipping 25 to 30.
Thursday will be a lay day, then racing continues Friday with an 18 race at 4 p.m. PDT followed by the traditional 7 1/2-mile Ronstan Bridge to Bridge Race from the Golden Gate to the Oakland Bay at 5:30. The last two of 10 races will be Saturday.

RORC Cherbourg Race Preview
"Most of the yachts will finish the race in time to enjoy a party atmosphere at the Yacht Club de Cherbourg." commented RORC Racing Manager, Nick Elliott. "The end of the season is a time when a lot of the sailors really get a chance to meet up and share their memories of the season, the 2012 RORC Season's Points Championship has been one of extremes with many very windy races but also barely enough breeze to keep going in others. The forecast for this weekend looks likely to give the fleet a downwind finale to the season with a north to north west moderate breeze and clear skies. However, it is highly likely that the wind will drop significantly on approach to Cherbourg and with a strong tide, we could see a exciting finish to the race and a dramatic end to seven months of racing."
Laurent Gouy's French Ker 39, Inis Mor leads the championship overall with a 17 point margin from Nick Martin's J/105 Diablo-J. Reigning RORC Season's Points Champion, Piet Vroon's Dutch Ker 46, Tonnerre de Breskens lies in third place just 19.4 points off the lead. If Inis Mor can beat both of their rivals, they will secure the championship.
In IRC One, Inis Mor and Tonnerre de Breskens will be fighting it out for the class win but four yachts are contesting the last podium position.
In IRC Two, Sailing Logic's Visit Malta Puma have secured the class win. Former RORC Commodore, Andrew McIrvine's First 40, La Reponse is in second place but under serious threat from the Army Sailing Association's A 40, British Soldier and Marc de Saint Denis and Gery Trentesaux's MC34, Courrier Vintage.
Diablo-J is currently leading in IRC Three but an overall winner is far from settled.
In the Two-handed Division, Diablo-J has secured the class win but Kirsteen Donaldson's X-332, Pyxis leads Mike Moxley's HOD35, Malice by just a single point for the runner's up prize.
With 14 different types of yacht racing to Cherbourg in IRC Four. The class is indicative of the huge variety of boats competing in the RORC Season's Points Championship. -- Louay Habib
Brewin Dolphin Dragon Gold Cup
Over 60 boats have entered from Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Germany, Finland, France, Portugal, Denmark and Monaco as well as strong fleets from Ireland and the UK. Up to 70 boats with crews that include multiple World Champions and past Olympians are expected in Kinsale.
Some of the top sailors registered to date include Lawrie Smith, Markus Wieser, Poul Richard Hoj-Jensen, Tommy Mueller and Vincent Hoesch - all well known international sailors with many world-class titles between them.
The Irish Dragon Fleet will be well represented by Edinburgh Cup winner, Simon Brien as well as established campaigners Martin Byrne, Don O'Donoghe, Andrew Craig and Cameron Good.
The race management team will be headed up by Alan Crosbie.
The Irish Dragon South Coast Championships are taking place on 1st and 2nd September, to serve as a 'warm up' event for the Gold Cup. Entries are still open for both events.
Normandy Channel Race
Measuring some 12.19 metres in length, with a maximum beam of 4.50 metres, a 3-metre water draught, a 19-metre air draught, a 4,500 kg displacement, a maximum sail area of 115m2 and a fixed keel, such are the main features of the Class 40, which leaves areas for individual development by the various naval architects. Very quickly this boat format enjoyed great success in France as well as internationally.
The masters of boat design soon began their number crunching and it is of note that the Class 40 is not a one-design but rather a prototype, which was set to become a production boat for some yards. Its repercussions began to be felt everywhere, from the Structures yard, with the launch of the Pogo 40 and now the Pogo 40 S2 designed by Jean-Marie Finot, Jumbo Composites with the Jumbo 40, Guillaume Verdier with the Tyker 40, Akilaria based in Tunisia, the Akilaria 40 and now the RC 2 designed by Marc Lombard, as well as JPS Composites and the Mach 40, a Sam Manuard design and the latest evolution of the Class 40. International designers were equally quick off the mark with early creations by Owen Clarke Design latterly followed by Farr Yacht Design and other design studios.
Also of note in Caen but of much greater vintage, is the three-masted sailing ship, Belem, which will be honoured during the Normandy Channel Race. She was built in 1896 and is run by the Belem Foundation and its historic sponsor, Caisses d'Epargne. The boat will be putting in an appearance during the latter part of this week and she is set to arrive in the Rade de Caen at 0900 hours.

Micro Class World Championship
Eleven nations came to Lake Traunsee for the 2012 Micro World Championships and the alpine lake, a regular stop of the RC 44 Worlds Tour, welcomed the competitors from three continents with bright sunshine and 30 degrees but with little wind.
After spending day 1 ashore, the long distance kick started the event. After five hours and 25 miles, the Ogrodnik, Banaszczyk and Choroba took the lead and defended their yellow leader dot until the last day. Defending World Champions Piotr Tarnack, Rafal Becker and Krysztof Mongird were their strongest opponents and fought until the final race.
On day 3 the race committee managed two races to make the championship valid. There were no changes at the top but the fight for bronze intensified.
Austrians Helmut Czasny, Jakob Bonomo and Peter Wagner moved up into the podium places with a fourth in Race 3 but having led Race 4 the jib halyard broke and so did the hope for a place on the podium.
The remaining two races then saw the Russian team Gennadiy Svistunov, Grigorii Mikhalev and Oleg Eropunov move up to the third place while Ogrodnik, who missed out on a place at the Olympic Sailing Competition in the Men's 470, controlled the fleet to make sure that the title would go to Poland once more.
In the sub-divisions of Racers and Cruisers, the Polish team also took home the prizes finishing first and second in the Racers division and coming second and third in the Cruisers ranking. It was only the World Champion of 2002, Philippe Benaben (FRA), who managed to win the Cruisers division.
The 2012 Micro Class World Championship took place from 20 - 25 August 2012 at the Union-Yachtclub Traunsee in Gmunden, Austria.

Vulcain Trophy Returns After Summer Break
8 races are run during the championship, of which 5 have already been completed. The regattas are specific courses dedicated to D35 catamarans, except for the "great classics" of the lake, the Geneve-Rolle-Geneve and the Bol d'Or Mirabaud, long-distance regattas hosting various classes of boats, but counting for the D35 circuit. The fifth and final step of the first part of the season was the Bol d'Or Mirabaud, won by Realstone Sailing. Now the teams are starting to get ready for the second part of the season starting on 8 and 9 September with the Open de Versoix II.
The overall ranking shows the striking predominance of Realstone Sailing, the team composed of members of the Regatta Training Centre of Geneva and skippered by Jerome Clerc, who won all the regattas except for the first one, finishing equal on points with Alinghi lead by Ernesto Bertarelli.

Virtual MOD70 European Tour
The start of the MOD70 European Tour will be at 1430hrs (local/CET) in Kiel, Germany on Sunday September 2nd. On the MOD70 VIRTUAL EUROPEAN TOUR the game takes you to the heat of the action, using real positions of the crews and and the real weather. That means five weeks of racing with five stops, a race around Europe which starts from Kiel in Germany, Dublin (Ireland) through Cascais (Portugal), Marseille (France) finally to finish in Genoa, Italy! National 12 Summer Event
The second race saw the breeze drop and the foiling rudders loose their advantage. Christian and Sophie managed to hold off Graham and Zoe throughout the race to take the bullet.
In the vintage fleet, who were competing for the Shotgun Trophy (significant in its size, as it is the stern of the National 12, Shotgun), Howard Chadwick crewed by Cathy Lawson won both races. Paul Turner with Christine Preston gave Howard a run for his money, coming in second, with Ed Willet crewed by Haydn Griffiths in third.
On Sunday the wind was definitely worth waiting for. In the final two races Graham and Zoe wrapped things up getting ahead of Steve and Joanne in both races. Christian and Sophie fought off Nick and Tanya Copsey in both races, with a photo finish between the two boats in race 4. Nick and sister Tanya were sailing very quickly with their retro fitted t-foiling rudder on their Feeling Foolish. Ian Smith and Jenny Chen, had fantastic starts in both races and held on to the position of first Admirals Cup boat throughout. In the vintage fleet it was Ed and Haydn who won race three, but Howard fought back to take the bullet in race 4, despite concerns that the stern of Shotgun would not fit on his mantelpiece!
