Skippers Target Vital Remaining Matches to Make Quarter Final Cut
Joachim Aschenbrenner (DEN) Team Trifork reached a total of five wins after the day's session and, having lost just four matches, has a good chance of moving to the Quarter Final with a strong performance tomorrow. Aschenbrenner, who looks set to become one of the future stars of the sport regardless of his progression in Sweden, said: "We had a good event at Match Race Germany and have been looking forward to this one. The DS 37 are boats that we train on and I've raced them since I started match racing. Of the other teams on the brink of making the cut, Staffan Lindberg (FIN) Alandia Sailing Team had a successful day, picking up another two wins to leave him with a total of three and still in with a chance of moving through to the next stage of the event. Tour Card Holder Simone Ferrarese (ITA) Ferrarese Racing Team and local wildcard Viktor Ogeman (SWE) Team Accure weren't able to get a win on the board in the third Qualifying Session and now look destined to be heading home. At the top of the qualifying table, Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team had recorded three wins by flight 16, taking him to eight overall and guaranteeing his participation in the next round. His only loss came at the hands of Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing in a close encounter which saw the Australian pick up a penalty in pre-start for not keeping clear of his opponent. STENA Match Cup Sweden Qualifying continues on Thursday 5th July from 0900 CET on Thursday 5th July, with Quarter Finals following and the Semi Final and Final scheduled for Saturday 7th July. Tour Voile: One Cape, Different Options
The wind isn't that bad immediately after the start - almost 10 knots of a West to West-North-West flow for five knots of boat speed. First, a long upwind tack on starboard, sailing West along the Northern coast. Then, the 15 teams open their sails and hoist the fractioned spinnaker, reaching, 10 miles away from Calais. The wind shifts a bit to the right. Three boats only don't keep their spinnaker and head upwind: Daniel Souben's men in front of Cotes d'Armor Bretagne and Fascinating Seas International. The weather conditions are good enough not to worry too much about the current and a possible mooring. The see breeze will drop at the end of the day and with the night will come squalls and showers. Clipper 11-12 Race Enters Final Stages
In Race 13 Gold Coast Australia secured its eleventh victory after a 2,350-mile tough upwind battle across the North Atlantic. The Queensland entry celebrated its win into Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland, all but guaranteeing overall victory in the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race. Barring massive penalties or disqualification, Gold Coast Australia cannot be beaten on points with a massive forty point advantage over current second place entry, Visit Finland. The fight for second and third place continues to be fought out as only a handful of points separate the contendersfor the remaining podium positions on the leader board. With two races left until the Clipper 11-12 Race finish in Southampton, just six points separates second place Visit Finland and third place De Lage Landen. Singapore, sponsored by Keppel Corporation, is snapping at their heels while Welcome to Yorkshire is just four points behind the Singaporean entry. The penultimate race, an 800-mile sprint from Derry-Londonderry to Den Helder in the Netherlands, will start at 1600 GMT on Saturday 7 July.
Dragon Grand Prix Germany
The last day of racing in Boltenhagen started off with very little wind, leading to a brief postponement but as the breeze picked up at noon the boats set sail and completed the last three races on the Wohlenberger Wiek. Seemingly eager to complete the final race it took the fleet three starts and three black flag disqualifications before they made their way across the 1.3 nm long course. RUS 76 with helmsman Dmitry Samokhin went from strength to strength, after finishing ninth and fifth in the first two races of the day they won the final race. It was enough to propel them to fifth overall, a comfortable eight points ahead of their fellow countrymen RUS 27. The Dragon Grand Prix 2013 is scheduled for June, 13th to June 16th 2013.
Defending Champion, Kistanov New Junior Finn World's Leader
Michal Jodlowski (POL) encouraged by his third place, perfected his game, winning the next race. "I think I have finally broke the code of this lake! Now I understand the pattern of the wind. I feel more confident making my choices, especially upwind. I had watched the wind between the races and the right seemed better this time. I saw the fleet go left like in the first race and was one of the rare to chose the right side. I was first at the windard mark and sailed the rest of the race conservatively on the run, trying not to make any mistakes. I am happy with my sailing and my last three results. It is coming together now!" Second and third place in race eight went to Martin Robitaille (CAN) and Thomas Morel (FRA). The fourth place goes to young Austrian Nikolaus Lehner who sailed today his best race in the event. The Canadian has now taken second overall and is only one point from Kistanov (RUS). Early leader Luttkus (GER) is in third place. Two races are scheduled for Thursday 5th of July.

First-Day Fireworks: Charisma Leads
Charisma's skipper Nico Poons (Monaco) enjoyed his first time racing in Newport by topping the scoreboard with a 5-2-4 , putting his team one point ahead of runner-up Enfant Terrible, skippered by Rossi Alberto (Italy), and three places above third place Struntje light, skippered by Wolfgang Schaefer (Germany). Pendennis Cup
Luckily the Cornish weather was more cooperative today with the sun breaking through the clouds at times and a good 15 knot wind. Once more both fleets were closely matched providing a fantastic spectacle, especially when the fleet hoisted their spinnakers after the first mark. A more detailed outline of the race will be posted later and the full results table is already online. In summary Unfurled took both line honours and the winner of Day 2 in the Class 2 fleet. Class 3 line honours and corrected time saw Firebrand take pole. Both these yachts now lead their classes after two races, but with both fleets performing so well it's still wide open for Friday and Saturday after the crews have a rest on Lay Day tomorrow.
A 440-Mile Speed Trial
In between the solo skippers experienced a close-quarters contest around the buoys off the Spanish coast, and night navigation around some Brittany landmarks, but the majority of the 442-mile race was spent on a reaching course, mostly under spinnaker, and always with the numbers on the speedo holding precedence. Gildas Morvan, competing in no less than his 17th Figaro race, sealed his first stage win at 23.58 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3rd. Nicolas Lunven (Generali) came home at one minute past midnight, July 4th, while Eliès confirmed his third place 7 minutes later. Behind the leaders the contest for leading rookie or 'Bizuth' was more eventful. On Wednesday afternoon Nick Cherry (GBR, Artemis 23) had been leading among the first-timers for over 24 hours, in a neck-and-neck race with Corentin Horeau (Bretagne - Credit Mutuel Espoir). However, as the fleet rounded the Le Boeufs marker that evening, Horeau established a fractional lead which he held to take the honour of first newcomer home in 23rd place. Fellow Bizuth Julien Villion (Seixo Promotion) was another who closed rapidly during the closing stages - Cherry held off Villion around the Pilours marker at the entrance to the finish port, but on the final gybe to the line Villion snuck through to finish just 17 seconds ahead in 25th place. First British skipper Sam Goodchild (Artemis (23) took 24th place. Norway's Kristin Songe Molle (Kristen For Fulle Seil) finished in 33rd place. Henry Bomby (GBR, Artemis 37) brought home the fleet at 02.43 a.m. The third stage of the Solitaire du Figaro begins on Sunday, July 8, with a return leg to Cherbourg. Heading into the final race, the winner of the opening leg Yann Elies (Groupe Queguiner/Journal des Entreprises) still holds the overall lead on cumulative time by 30 minutes and 17 seconds from Morgan Lagraviere (Vendee) in second, with Nicolas Lunven (Generali) just 10 seconds further back in third
London 2012 Supplied Equipment Draw Completed
The supply of equipment and the equipment draw is one of many tasks the International Sailing Federation will undertake in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition in Weymouth and Portland as part of its role "to assume the responsibility for the technical control and direction of their sports at the Olympic Games," as defined by the Olympic Charter. The draw for supplied equipment allocates the individual items of equipment (the boat, the sails and the spars) to each nation competing at the Olympic Sailing Competition. The draw is completely random. Of the 10 sailing events at the 2012 Olympic Games, five will be contested in supplied equipment, meaning the competitor is allocated their boats, sails, spars etc. upon arrival at the event instead of bringing his or her own equipment to the event. The supplied equipment consists of the RS:X windsurfer used for both the Men's and Women's Windsurfer events, the Laser and Laser Radial dinghies used for the Men's One Person Dinghy and Women's One Person Dinghy events respectively and the Elliott 6m used for the Women's Match Racing event.
