Final Miles to Charleston for the GOR Leaders
Leading the pursuing pack in second place, Marco Nannini and Sergio Frattaruolo on Financial Crisis held a 62-mile lead over the South African duo on Phesheya-Racing - a gain of around 20 miles since Sunday afternoon - and were averaging the best speed in the fleet at 10.5 knots on Monday.
However, with weather files predicting a loss of wind, the remaining 215 miles could present a fresh set of tactical options: "The wind is progressively decreasing, so we hope the finale won't be too much of a light winds struggle," says Nannini. At 15:00 GMT on Wednesday, Nannini and Frattaruolo were 106 miles NE of Grand Bahama and 200 miles off the east coast of Florida. "We're heading north-west, a little left of the direct route, in anticipation of the rotation of the wind and hoping to find the favourable flow of the Gulf Stream to help us run fast along the American coast," he explains.
Meanwhile, on Phesheya-Racing, Nick Leggatt and Phillippa Hutton-Squire had slowed to just under seven knots on Monday afternoon with their speed averages dropping gradually from over ten knots earlier in the morning. "We've caught up 125 miles on Cessna and 131 on Financial Crisis," reported Hutton-Squire on Monday morning, but the pressure from Van Vuuren and Beusker in fourth place is relentless.
Clipper Shortens Leg
Race Director Joff Bailey explains, "The Clipper Race Committee, chaired by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, has shortened the course for Race 10 by selecting one of the pre-existing gates within the Course Instructions as the new finish line. This line is perpendicular to the route and is long enough so that it does not adversely affect any team tactics, it is currently (at 0900GMT) 220nm ahead of Gold Coast Australia.
"The Race Committee has taken this decision after it was advised of maintenance work that is being undertaken on the Panama Canal locks over the coming weeks, the lighter than expected wind strengths on this section of the race and the need to maintain the overall race schedule."
Over half of the fleet is now in Stealth Mode, meaning they are only visible to the Race Office, while they can work out tactics. Qingdao, New York and Visit Finland have been added to the "invisible" list since yesterday.

Burnham & Rugg's New Yorkers and Peckham's Cowes Crew Take Top IOD Prizes
The Vrengen Gold Cup for first overall in the series finally went to the John Burham-Peter Rugg co-skippered Fishers Island NY team. Victory, however, was in doubt until late in the afternoon following a collision in the twelfth race. Burnham had to retire from that race with a 14-point DNF and then got automatic redress of average points for all races sailed in the series for not being able to sail the finale. "It is an unusual way to win a regatta," Burnham said while he and his team repaired the rigging later in the afternoon. "But the rules are clear. We've had a great week and we always enjoy coming to Bermuda." Burnham won the 'A' series before in 2007. This is his first overall win in Race Week. Burnham is a two-time IOD world Champion.
Simmons and Peckham were tied for second overall and Peckham moved up to second in a tiebreaker. Burnham & Rugg, who alternated on the helm each day, had won the seven-race 'A' series on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week the Comets, Etchells and Lasers finished their events and Bermudians dominated the podium. The Comets sailed five races, all on the first day, and Bermudian Stevie Dickenson came first followed by compatriots Dimitri Stevens and Tre Joinville. The Lasers sailed thirteen races and Bermuda's laser master Malcolm Smith was first winning the International Race Week Trophy. He was followed by Brett Wright in second and Rockal Evans in third.
The Etchells Class silver, the K.F. Trimingham Trophy, was also won by a Bermudian, Will Thompson. Tim Patton came second and James Hudleston was third.

Applicants for this post are expected to be well experienced sailors and holders of valid and suitable qualifications (equivalent to RYA qualifications) to function effectively in the following aspects:

and must have extensive experience in dinghy instructor training, elite athlete training and development of youth squads in varies dinghy classes.

Windy Finale for Warsash Spring Series
This year all boats in IRC1 and IRC2 were eligible for the Spring Championships. As no discards are allowed, consistency often paid. In IRC1 both Tokoloshe (Michael Bartholomew) and Brevity (Mark Devereux) scored no lower than 5th place but with four wins, Tokoloshe took a six point lead to repeat their success as class winner in 2011.
Similarly in IRC2, two boats headed the pack with Winston and Tarka II separated by two points after nine races. There was a close tussle in the J/109s headed by Jahmali (Mike and Sarah Wallis) two points ahead of Outrajeous (Richard and Valerie Griffiths). Returning to the J/80 class Stewart Hawthorn headed the fleet in J'ai Deux Amours with J2x (Rob Larke) second. The turnout in the Laser SB3 class was patchy but the Russian entry from Oleg Zherebstov improved to first place from his fifth position in 2011. The Quarter Ton class knotched up 11 races after which the Irish entry Anchor Challenge (Diamuid Foley) was tied on points with local sailor Louise Morton in Espada, but four bullets gave Diarmuid the trophy.

The Dream Continues at Tarbert
Close to half the number of winners of the top award over the last 30 years return to Tarbert year on year, making the annual pilgrimage to Loch Fyne as they seek to repeat their successes. Of course among them are multiple winners such as Jonathan Anderson, three times, Hamish Mackay three times and the Tay's double winners Chris Bonar and Tich Summers,
Like others Bonar's boats have brought on generations of new young crew and now just three of the original crew from 27 years ago are still racing and will be back in harness for this year's Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series, the two of them in the dry seats - helm Summers and mainsheet trimmer/owner Bonar - and renowned headsail trimmer John Henshelwood.
"The first time we won was with the MGRS34 and I don't even think we had a string of all firsts, but it was definitely a strong class at the time with the likes of David Blacklaws SJ35 Starry Starry Night, with the designer on board and Jimi the Fink, and we had a good tussle with them, but to be honest one Scottish Series does tend to fade into another!"

Spit Sand Fort Opens as a Hotel
Built at huge expense by the then prime minister, Lord Palmerston, to defend the Royal Navy's base at Portsmouth, none of the four - Horse Sand, Spit Sand, No Man's :Land and St Helen's - ever had to fire a gun in anger. They faded into history as Palmerston's Follies and awkward rounding marks.
After being used as variously a restaurant and a party venue, Spit Sand Fort was bought in 2009 by entrepreneur Mike Clare, who was best known as the founder of a bed retailer by the name of Dreams.
After buying the fort for a reported £1m and spending some £2m on turning it into a luxury hotel, Mr Clare opened its doors mid-April. It offers nine bedroom suites giving accommodations for up to 18, three private dining rooms and a function space for 60 people with sea views.

The Principality of Sealand is delighted to announce its own all-female roller derby team and wishes it every success in this up and coming sport" said Prince Regent Michael of Sealand.
Rather than play as a traditional league, Team Sealand Roller Derby, or TSRD, will use a structure new to the sport. "Basically, we'll travel from town to town, playing the local teams." said Royal Commissioner Adam Roush. "No home games." The commission expects the TSRD will play teams throughout the UK in a two-month campaign beginning in July.
The new team will be formed of skaters from the South Wales area, selected for their skill and commitment. "Having the opportunity to work alongside talented skaters, coaches and officials from within South Wales' most prominent teams will be fantastic," said Royal Commissioner Amy Greenwood. "I can't wait to see TSRD explode onto the derby scene!"
Skater selection will be announced the week of the 21st of May, and the team will begin competing in July. Cutty Sark: Queen Reopens Greenwich Tea Clipper
The clipper, which has been restored at a cost of more than £50m, is now elevated so visitors can see it from underneath as well as climb aboard.
The Queen originally opened the 19th Century tea clipper exhibit in 1957.
Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, she also officially named the Gloriana which will lead the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in June.
Crowds cheered in driving rain as the royal couple descended a gangway at Greenland Pier, on the Thames in London's Docklands, before going on board the Gloriana.
The 94-foot vessel, decorated with gold leaf and ornately carved, harks back 200 years to when kings and queens travelled by water in opulent style.
After the Queen unveiled the Cutty Sark, the royal couple moved inside to view the clipper's cramped decks that during its working life were filled with tea from China,
The Cutty Sark Trust, which received funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Heritage Lottery Fund, as well as donations from the public, aims to present the tea clipper as it would have looked when it was launched in 1872.
It opens to the public on Thursday.
Silverton, Luhrs and Mainship, located in Millville, N.J. - had ceased operations in January. Florida-based Hunter Marine, the sailboat builder, has never shut down production, Peterson said, and continues to be up and running.
The bankruptcy filing was not immediately available online.
Peterson said Hunter has secured interim financing from Bank of America to stay in operation. Only one person remains at the powerboat companies, and he's on the Hunter payroll, Peterson confirmed. About 60 people were laid off from the New Jersey operation.

Beneteau has officially opened its new facility in Brazil in the city of Angra dos Reis. The inauguration took place in Marina Verolme and was attended by the state governor, Sergio Cabral, the vice-governor and executive coordinator of Infrastructure, Luiz Fernando Pezão, the mayor of Angra dos Reis, Tuca Jordan and representatives from the French boatbuilder.
According to Beneteau the plant has an initial production capacity of more than 50 boats over 34ft per year, and will eventually create around 600 direct jobs in the city. More than R$15m has been invested in the plant that occupies 10,000m2.
The facility will be vital in helping Beneteau crack the both the domestic and Latin American markets.
Marinas in Queensland Australia account for more than a quarter of the country's total gross revenues for all marinas, but marina owners also have the most negative financial outlook. A report by the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) attributes that pessimistic view to "disproportionately high taxes" and leases that Queensland's marinas must pay.
The "2011 Health of the Australian Marina Industry Survey" said Queensland's marinas had more tenants (939) than any other state, and generated 26 per cent of Australian marinas total gross revenues in 2010/11. But the state's marinas also paid 30 per cent of the total taxes and lease charges.
Only 40 per cent of Queensland's marinas expect to grow gross revenue this financial year, while nationally the average was 49 per cent.
"The report provides the evidence that industry has been saying for years. Queensland marinas are paying excessive taxes and lease payments," said Mike Harvey, manager of Runaway Bay Marina and MIAA board member, in a statement. "This is strangling marina investment in a state with a natural competitive advantage in recreational boating."

Sailing has too many variables for not having the chance to drop a race.
Give us back longer races, 60° TWA longer reaches (at least with the Lasers) and forget about this nonsense double point, DND, 10 only people medal race.

On a passage the boat is sailed very easily single handed or by a couple. Returning to Australia in 1992 after the first cruise to Thailand, Summersalt did the 2500 miles from Singapore to Thursday Island in 18 days thru the reef strewn waters of Indonesia. This passage was done 2 handed with the autopilot steering nearly all the time in mostly variable but following winds. The fact that the only form of charging for the single 75amp battery was one 42 watt solar panel is indicative of how easy the boat is on the helm, even in following seas.
In 2004 Summersalt had a refit in Phuket with the cabin being raised to give a head room of 1.58m in the saloon.
In 2007 all the standing rigging was replaced as were all the halyards. On one hull the bottom has a copper-epoxy treatment with antifoul on the other hull.
