Clarisse Cremer fulfills the requirements for the 2024 Vendee Globe
Last Thursday evening, after 14 days of intense and sometimes frustrating sailing across the Atlantic, Clarisse Cremer crossed the finish line of the New York Vendee, the final transatlantic race required for her to be in the 'safe zone' for final selection for the 2024 Vendee Globe.

For more than a year, Clarisse Cremer has been preparing to qualify for her second Vendee Globe. She has competed in and finished all the races available to her to achieve this - the Rolex Fastnet Race, Defi Azimut, Transat Jacques Vabre, Retour a la Base, The Transat CIC and the New York to Vendee. In such a short time, the sailor and mother has participated in six races, including four transatlantic races with three of them being solo. This represents over 16,000 nautical miles raced - about 10,000 solo - a feat she has accomplished in a compressed timetable.

From the beginning of her new project, Clarisse's goal has always been to be among the 40 boats at the start of the 2024 Vendee Globe. Her project was conceived in early 2023, after the birth of her daughter and in partnership with British navigator Alex Thomson and his team. Together, they set out to show that motherhood should not be a barrier to a sporting or any other career.

"The objective of this last race was to finish and secure selection for the next Vendee Globe, and although this race would have been very frustrating for Clarisse as she was forced to compromise competitiveness for guaranteeing finishing the race - I am very pleased she took the conservative option. It's been a very intense 14 months, but we made it to this point and I am very proud of Clarisse and the team - now we can prepare for the Vendee Globe. What I am looking forward to is really seeing Clarisse and this boat race and not being held back" said Alex Thomson.

Cup Spy: Swiss resume their sailing program
Four teams sailed on Monday out of Barcelona in light winds that increased for a time to 14kts.

The Swiss team returned with a legacy mast after their spectacular dismasting on Thursday. No more has been said as to the reasons. Oddly, the British split a jib in a decreasing breeze. The French had some control issues, culminating in a shallow nosedive.

Emirates Team NZ is now in the Mediterranean.

What happened in the Cup - June 17, 2024: - INEOS Britannia had a five hour session, they were sporting a different rudder and new on deck cameras as well as the usual Lidar units. Their main chase boat was fitted with a gyroscopic camera - a smaller version of those used for live TV broadcast. The Brits split a J3 jib in a dying breeze towards the end of the session. - Alinghi Red Bull Racing were back sailing on a "Recommissioning Day" with their older legacy mast, after breaking one of their new racing spars, last Thursday. Their day consisted of trialing the "new" mast and settling a shaken boat and crew. Boat Captain, Jack Taylor was questioned as to the circumstances of the mast failure on Thursday, but revealed little saying that more would be shared in a few days. It all seems rather past tense now.

OYS Congratulate Service Agent Marine Results of 20th Anniversary Year
BSI Rigging It’s 2003 and professional sailors Ed Danby and Ben Wood decided to turn their hand to rigging and were the founding owners of Marine Results, later to be joined by Jon Morris. Just down the road was a rigging company gaining traction in the market called Ocean Yacht Systems Limited (OYS). OYS, a rod rigging manufacturer, specialised in standing rigging for the large yacht and superyacht sector.

Danby and Wood approached OYS looking for a forestay for 44.5m ketch Timoneer II (now Catalina). This project marked the start of a close working relationship. Marine Results was soon appointed a Service Agent for OYS and since that first project together they have rigged some of the world’s largest superyachts.

June 2024, and OYS, now part of the larger BSI Marine Equipment Group, has just completed the 20 years’ service on Catalina’s standing rigging working with Marine Results. This is a significant service, with the rigging at the end of its recommended lifespan. During this service all original hardware and rods were replaced and Catalina is now ready to set sail until her next service in five years’ time.

“A lot has changed for both companies over the past 20 years, yet there is one constant and that is the people in the business. All at OYS would like to congratulate Jon, Ed and the team at Marine Results on 20 years in the business. We thank them for their professionalism and knowledge sharing expertise. May they continue to grow here in the UK, at their base in Palma and the projects they manage around the world,” comments Robert Sargent, Sales Manager at OYS.

2003 was a big year for Marine Results and OYS, in addition to work on Timoneer II, together they rigged Mirabella 5 (now M5) which at the time was the tallest sloop rig at 89m in the world. The boat was launched in Southampton close to the home of OYS and Marine Results.

“We have worked closely with the team at OYS over the years and we are grateful for their ongoing support, attention to detail and experience. We have a close working relationship, and we look forward to continued growth for all of us over the years to come.” Ed Danby, Director & Founder, Marine Results International.

OYS and the entire BSI Marine Equipment Group went on to wish Marine Results a very happy 20th birthday and is looking forward to continuing to support the superyacht rigs they service.

US and Canada rivalry blows up in the latest episode of SailGP's Racing on the Edge
The latest episode of SailGP's Racing on the Edge docuseries, in partnership with Rolex, provides a behind-the-scenes look at the intense nation versus nation rivalries heating up across the global racing league, the uncertainty of the last-remaining league-owned teams, and the final push to the Season 4 Grand Final next month in San Francisco - with $2 million in prize money on the line.

The episode opens with scenes from the opening press conference for the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, honing in on the elephant in the room: that four teams - Spain, France, Canada and even frontrunners New Zealand - are all at risk of not being on the startline in Season 5 if they don't secure investment before the November launch. At the same event, Australia's Tom Slingsby confirmed his team's future in the league was secure amid the growing pressure - hinting at a major announcement soon.

When asked about the financial status of his team, Spanish driver Diego Botin said: "We have a group of investors willing to join the team and move forward with us - the team is also working very hard on achieving this financial power."

TITLE
With essential preparations completed, Superyacht Cup Palma is in to the final countdown to another eagerly anticipated edition of Europe's longest running superyacht regatta.

The owners, captains and crews have now been able to review the provisional class splits - which divide the fleet according to their ORCsy rating which takes into account each superyacht's special characteristics - and assess who is their immediate competition.

This year will see Superyacht Cup Palma's defending champion, the 24m Wally yacht Rose, likely to see some determined if friendly opposition to her retaining the title coming most immediately from her similar sized classmates - Umiko and Dark Horse from the Swan stable, and the brand-new Y Yacht Calabash.

"It was an amazing year for us in 2023, really close and challenging - we only won the last deciding race by five seconds," said Rose's tactician Jesper Radich.

"Looking at the immediate competition in our class, this year looks like it is going to be even more of a contest - we're really looking forward to getting out there!"
