The win gives the Thurlow Fisher Lawyers team the outright lead in the series on 9 points, three ahead of defending champion Seve Jarvin and his Gotta Love It 7 team of Sam Newton and Scott Babbage. Second today was Smeg (Nick Press, Dan Phillips and Dave Ewings), which finished 1m20s behind the winner, while Western Australia's SLAM (Grant Rollerson, Anthony Young and Peter Nicholson) was a further 1m5s back in third place. Overall point scores behind Thurlow Fsiher Lawyers and Gotta Love It 7 are US champion Howie Hamlin and his CST Composites team Fritz Lanzinger and Paul Allen on 18 points, Yandoo (John Winning, Andrew Hay, Dave Gibson) and Red Claw Wines (Matthew Searle, Archie Massey, Mike McKenzie) both on 23 and Smeg on 27. Today's race was delayer for 1h45m due to a lack of wind, but when the light north east breeze arrived another unpredictable race was on. On the final windward leg to the Beashel Buoy all teams elected to sail to the northern shore and SLAM gained time to be within striking distance of Smeg, Gotta Love It 7 and CST Composites. SLAM took a different line to the other three teams competing for the minor placings on the spinnaker run to the wing mark off Shark Island. The move paid dividends as SLAM cut out Gotta Love It 7 and CST Composites, to finish third behind Thurlow Fisher Lawyers and Smeg. Sweden's Fredrik Loof and Max Salmiren continued their consistent form, adding a second-place finish to yesterday's win. Third place went to three-time Bacardi Cup champion Peter Bromby sailing with Lee White (Bermuda). Ranking On Wednesday 9 March At 15:00 (Ut+1): EUROSAF European Championships The High Performance Grand Prix, which take place between the 13th & 16th October, at Los Alcazares on the Mar Menor, Murcia, Spain, is an international event for invited high performance ISAF, non-Olympic, dinghies, multihulls and boards, namely: - 29erXX The Kiteboard's have selected this event to be their Kite Cross World Championship of 2011, which is one of the course options should Kiteboarding be selected at a future point as an Olympic discipline. The D-One have nominated this event to be their 2011 European Championship. The third event is the EUROSAF Freestyle Sailing Championship, which is being held at Circolo Vela Torbole, Lake Garda, Italy, on 16th & 17th July 2011. Racing will be for men and women and boys and girls in the following fleets: A maximum of 32 crews will be competing, 16 in each of the Junior and Senior Fleet. Boats will be provided by the organisers, making it easy for anyone, from anywhere, to enter. To set this event apart from others, it is the intention of the organisers that the format of racing should be as inclusive, and as varied, as possible. Formats could include: 5 (or less) buoy downwind, figure of 8, slalom, team racing and gates. A strong sailing background and knowledge of yachts is essential, as, naturally, are fluent language skills in European languages. Sportsboats, "Big Boats" and quarter tonners share the Spring Championship dates of 9th/10th and 16th/17th April 2011. Entries show several class trophy winners of 2010 returning to the fray to defend their titles. These include Artemis (Paul Turner), J-Dream (David and Kirsty Apthorp) and Oi! (John Cooper). Competition will be keen in the 28-strong Laser SB3 class with three world champions taking part - Jerry Hill (2010), Craig Burlton (2009) and Geoff Carveth (2008). In 2010 Geoff Carveth carried off the Spring Series prize with Craig Burlton topping the class for the Spring Championship. Three Farr 45s have so far signed up for their class in the Spring Championship, including the newly formed British Keelboat Academy in Kolga. Their competition includes Niklas Zennstrom's Ran and Stewart Whitehead's Rebel. The Sigma 38 class association was formed in 1987. The design came from the drawing board of David Thomas, first Chief Race Officer for the Spring Series 27 years ago. 13 boats are entered, demonstrating the continued popularity of the Sigmas and they will enjoy a separate class in 2011. Class splits for handicap divisions will be decided this Thursday 10th March so class numbers can be kept to an equal size. The SCRA mark designation system is being introduced by Solent clubs for 2011 and this will be used for the first time in the Warsash Spring Series. Some buoys have also had a change of name for this year and Warsash Sailing Club will be including a free up-to-date BuoyRacer laminated chartlet with each set of sailing instructions for the Series. Warsash Sailing Club extends a warm welcome to all competitors at Shore House in the entrance to the Hamble River. Breakfast is available from 0730 and a range of hot food and snacks after racing. Just eight months remain until the start of the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race in Alicante, Spain on November 5th. The CAMPER sailing team, which features a combination of both offshore experience and new talent, will now begin an intensive programme in the build up to the race start. Kyrgyzstan are starting to develop sailors that will be able compete on the world stage. And there are plans to send athletes to more international regattas, "We would like our sailors to participate in the European Championships, World Junior Championships and the Olympic Test Event this year," said Abramov. Kyrgyzstan won't be the only newcomer to the ISAF Sailing World Championships. The Cook Islands are sending entries in the Laser and Laser Radial. Kazakhstan, Montenegro and Trinidad and Tobago are each sending one entry into the Laser class. And St Lucia will have a representative in the Laser Radial and Palestine has entrants in the Men's RS:X and Men's 470. Kyrgyzstan joined the ISAF family as an MNA in 2007 and as the sailing community continues to grow throughout the world Perth 2011 has already received entries from 72 nations. Although seller Mike Reynolds will not reveal the identity of the new owner of the 40ft section of hull of the wrecked yacht he did say he had a West Country address. And he added: "It weighs about six tonnes. I hope this guy has a big garden." The huge carbon fibre catamaran cost millions of pounds to build beside the River Dart in Totnes - only to fall apart during sea trials in the North Atlantic almost 11 years ago. The 40ft section of hull, which was once part of a Falmouth museum display after it washed up in Ireland, has now been sold on the internet auction site for charity. The bidding started at the end of last month at £30 and ended on Monday with a top bid of £510. The cash will be going to the Shelterbox charity. --------------------------------------------------- The hugely popular and ever growing Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is happening again this year and it's predicted to be the biggest yet. 27 acts will take part, including Cornwall's famous Fishermen's Friends, winners of the Radio 2 Folk Awards Good Tradition title and runners up for Best Group. Billed as the largest free festival of maritime music on the planet and sponsored once again by Skinner's Brewery of Truro, the three day festival will open on Friday 17 June and profits will be donated to the RNLI. Now in its seventh year, the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival has donated more than £20,000 to the RNLI, which as a charity relies on public support.
