Leopard 3 Dare to Dream
Farr 100 Leopard 3 (MON) skippered Joost Schuijff took Monohull Line Honours in the 2024 RORC Caribbean 600 in an elapsed time of 02 Days 01 Hrs 23 Mins and 18 Secs.

Leopard 3 Crew: Joost Schuijff, Chris Sherlock, Mitch Booth, Aaron Reynolds-Lovegrove, Antonio Cuervas Mons, Carlos Hernandez Robayna, Charlie Wyatt, Dennis Frederiksen, Gerard Mitchell, Gian Ahluwalia, Giles de Jager, Guillermo Altadill, Mark Bartlett, Matthew Lester, Paul Standbridge, Samuel Wright, Stephen Booth, Tom McWilliam, Will Best.

This is Leopard 3's ninth RORC Caribbean 600 and while the canting keel Maxi has taken the gun on two previous occasions, Leopard 3 has never won the race overall under IRC for the RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy. Leopard 3 has set the bar on IRC corrected time for all of the 36 boats still racing under IRC and must now wait for the overall winner to be decided. The biggest threat to Leopard for the overall title are all racing in IRC Zero that are about 100 miles from the finish in Antigua. -- Louay Habib

* Jason Carroll's MOD70 Argo (USA) has taken Multihull Line Honours in the 2024 Caribbean 600 in an elapsed time of 01 Day 08 Hrs 08 Mins and 40 Secs. Argo Crew: Jason Carroll, Weston Barlow, Chad Corning, Pete Cumming, Sam Goodchild, Chris Maxted, Charlie Ogletree, Brian Thompson.

Erik Maris' MOD70 Zoulou (FRA) was the second boat to finish the RORC Caribbean 600 and was just 19 minutes behind Zoulou after over 32 hours of intense racing. Alexia Barrier's MOD70 Limosa - The Famous Project (FRA), co-skippered by Dee Caffari, completed the Multihull Line Honours podium, finishing the race less than four hours behind Argo.

"This year's race is like any other; it isn't over until the final beat," commented Argo's Jason Carroll. "This year, we may not have had many lead changes, but Zoulou was right behind us at every single turn. Zoulou was forever closing in on us and we had to keep finding ways to protect our position. Honestly, I think Zoulou has shown a big step up in performance since the RORC Transatlantic Race; they were faster than us in a few situations. Limosa - The Famous Project has also shown a big improvement, which is great for them. They were very close with us and Zoulou the entire time; it's great to see them refining their performance."

This was the fifth RORC Caribbean 600 for Jason Carroll and the second time MOD70 Argo has taken Multihull Line honours. Argo's 2022 race record remains intact (01 Day 05 Hrs 48 Mins 45 Secs).

Fifth placed Eric Peron passes Cape Horn and sets a Pacific record for this race
Eric Peron Only hours after fourth placed Anthony Marchand - who passed last night at 2225hrs UTC - this afternoon it was the turn of fifth placed Eric Peron (ULTIM ADAGIO) to round Cape Horn. He passed at 1518hrs UTC this afternoon and In so doing sets the fastest time for the Pacific on this race, 1 hour and 14 minutes quicker than Charles Caudrelier.

But for Eric Peron on the oldest ULTIM in the fleet, a boat which does not have foils, passing Cape Horn today was a just reward for the 42 year old from Quimper in Brittany who raced five legs of the 2014-2015 edition of The Ocean Race on Dongfeng Race Team. Peron had to stop in Cape Town but had a dream passage of the Pacific on the leading edge of a front which he rode almost all the way across from Tasmania to the Horn. He has also pulled back some 800 miles on his friend and former Figaro class rival Anthony Marchand who is now just over 300 miles ahead. They now just have the matter of 7,000 or so miles to the finish line in Brest.

Current placings at February 22nd at 3:00 AM French Time:
1. Sodebo, Ultim 3, Thomas Coville, 3175.66 nm to finish
2. Banque Populaire, Armel Le Cleac'h, 629.36 to leader
3. Actual Ultim 3, Anthony Marchand, 3510.95 to leader
4. Adagio, Eric Peron, 3697.03 to leader

Orient Express Racing Team has certainly hit the ground
Our AC40 is now in LEQ mode and sailing resumed back in January on the wintery waters off Barcelona with all three of the sailing squads in attendance.

We have had a flurry of partner announcements which is a great boost for the most important year of our campaign with Photomaton® ME Group and Alpine joining L'Oreal Groupe as official partners, plus Vignobles Kandler – Stephan Kandler's other passion – and iCoolSport coming on board for the final push towards the 37th America's Cup in the autumn. Meanwhile the construction of our AC75 continues at the Multiplast boatyard in Vannes. -- Sabina Mollart-Rogerson

Half Ton Classics Cup 2024
Half Ton Classics Cup The halftonner fleet is to gather again at Nieuwpoort (BEL) from 5 to 9 AUG for the 14th Half Ton Classics Cup, hosted by the KYCN (Koninklijke Yacht Club Nieuwpoort).

The publication of the Notice of Race officially opened the registration period. After the success of the 2023 edition in Hanko /Norway, which brought together 33 halftonners of all kinds, the organisers are looking forward to welcome a same number of entrants again. Many teams from Belgium, Ireland, Norway, the UK and France have already shown their unconditional interest.

All interested teams are invited to enter via the Manage2Sail website

Since the first edition in 2023 the event embraced the IRC rating rule and will continue to do so, albeit all entered boats are now requested to have an endorsed certificate.

Although the event's main trophy -the iconic Half Ton Classics Cup- is highly coveted, the main prize of the event is the 1/2 Ton True Spirit Trophy which can be won only by the team that most adheres to the undefinable 'half ton spirit'… This trophy is commonly awarded after a popular vote amongst all participants.

There will also be rankings & prizes for the 'vintage' halftonners, for the best 'all female' team, and undoubtedly many more. There will be no 'Ryde Sands Trophy' this time, but the local sandbanks and strong tidal currents are preparing a few surprises we've been told…

NIJI40 Transatlantic Race

Tom Dolan Tom Dolan has also been offered the incredible opportunity to take part in in the NIJI40 transatlantic race which starts April 7 from Belle-Ile-en-mer (Morbihan), France heading across to Marie-Galante (Guadeloupe).

This 3,430 nautical mile (6,353 km) race will take place on the Class 40 Amarris, which recently finished second in the Transat Jacques Vabre. Tom will sail it with two other "Figaristes", good friends of his, Gildas Mahe and Catalan Pep Costa.

This international crew (French, Irish, Spanish) will be among the race favorites. Tom has adapted his winter fitness training program to prepare for bigger boats, with heavier sails and bigger loads across the board.

So there is a great experience to look forwards to for Tom Dolan, which will undoubtedly enhance his allround racing skills.

* The result of collaborative work carried out between the Class40 and Ultim Sailing since 18 months, a new transatlantic is born.

Dedicated to Class40 sailboats, it will connect Belle-Ile-en-Mer (Morbihan) to Marie-Galante (Guadeloupe). The start will be given on April 7, 2024 in the bay of Le Palais.

Officially presented at the last General Assembly of the class, on March 11, and integrated into its 2024 calendar, this race will be run with a crew of three and essentially in downwind conditions which are perfectly suited to these boats.

The Niji company, whose head office is based in Rennes, was quickly won over by the project for this new transatlantic. With more than 1,200 employees combining consulting, design and technological implementation, the company supports the digital transformation of companies in all economic sectors and of all sizes, from idea to reality.

The Niji 40, official name of the race, begins its countdown today before the big start. With a four-year rhythm, the Niji 40 aims to become a Class40 classic.

About the NIJI 40 :
- First crewed transatlantic race (x3) exclusively reserved for the Class40
- Starting line in Belle-Ile-en-Mer (Le Palais) on Sunday, 7th April 2024

MedSailing 2024
The Hungarian crew composed of Soma Kis-Szolgyemi and Andras Juhasz successfully defended their championship title at MedSailing in the waters of the Club Nautic El Balís. Second place went to Italians Giuseppe Montesano and Enrico Coslovich, with the Polish duo Ewa Lewandowska and Krysztof Krolik taking third.

MedSailing is a scoring event for the 29er EuroCup circuit.

Kis-Szolgyemi and Juhasz started as one of the top contenders and proved their worth in the last and only race held in the Final Series this Sunday. The Hungarians finished second in the fifth race, propelling them to the top spot. Meanwhile, the leaders until yesterday, Italians Alex Demutras and Giovanni Santi, scored a 43, condemning them to eighteenth place in the final standings, as their discard was a BFD (black flag) from the first day.

Following the Hungarians, Italians Montesano and Coslovich, who finished fourth in the final race, also climbed onto the podium, securing second place just two points behind the champions.

The only crew that managed to stay on the podium throughout MedSailing was the Polish duo of Lewandowska and Krolik, who, after leading the overall standings after the third race, eventually settled for third place.

MedSailing 2024 was marked by challenging weather conditions. After the first and third days were windless, the second day saw four races, with only one race held on the final day.

MedSailing 2024 will have a second part with the celebration of the 49erFX Open Series at the Club Nautic El Balís from February 20 to 23.

Remember the Maine
Remember the Maine If you appreciate a good Manhattan - a rye Manhattan specifically - then the Remember the Maine should likely find a home in your drinks repertoire. At first glance, the historic cocktail appears to be a direct adaptation of the famed whiskey drink. But it draws from two sources: both the Manhattan and the New Orleans classic the Sazerac, as the Remember the Maine also includes absinthe.

Remember the Maine comes from Charles H. Baker, Jr's. "The Gentleman's Companion" from 1939. "Treat this one with the respect it deserves, gentlemen," the description reads.

Ingredients
1/2 teaspoon absinthe
2 ounces rye whiskey
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
2 teaspoons Heering cherry liqueur
Garnish: brandied cherry

Steps
1. In a chilled coupe or cocktail glass, add the absinthe. Swirl to coat and discard the excess.
2. Add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and cherry liqueur into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
3. Strain into the prepared glass.
4. Garnish with a brandied cherry.
