Youth Sailing World Championships
Ewa Lewandowska and Julia Maria Zmudzin ska (POL) were the standout performers on the opening day of the Youth Sailing World Championships in Brazil.

The Polish pair won all three of their races in the 29er Female class to make a dream start to Buzios 2023.

Elsewhere, Karl Devaux and Hugo Revil (FRA) picked up a pair of bullets to lead the 29er Male/Mixed, while Merve Vatan (TUR) also won twice in the iQFOiL Youth & Junior Female.

There was also plenty to celebrate for the home crowd, with Joana Faulhaber Tostes Antunes Gonç and Gabriela Vassel impressing in the 420 Female class to lead the way on day one.

AC40 Class Association - Foundations Laid
The recently concluded America's Cup Preliminary Regatta in Jeddah has seen the dynamism, reputation, and unparalleled performance of the AC40 confirm the vessel, crafted by Emirates Team New Zealand and produced by McConaghy Boats, as the world's fastest and most exciting one-design yacht.

For Emirates Team New Zealand, a pivotal force within the newly established AC40 Class Association, this event served as a critical juncture to solidify the foundations of the AC40 Class.

Following constructive discussions with teams and potential private owners in recent weeks, the AC40 Class Association is now able to disclose key features central to its developmental plans.

The AC40 Class Association will be governed by a Council of AC40 owners and a Committee comprising three new owner members, alongside one representative from each of McConaghy Boats and Emirates Team New Zealand.

The Association will oversee the curation of AC40 events where private owners and professional sport teams, can compete on equal terms. Comprehensive boatyard services will also support new teams whilst training and racing. In essence, the primary mandate is to promote, safeguard, and enhance the AC40 Class Yachts while facilitating effective communication with owners.

The AC40 Class Association Committee will also include Luca Rizzotti as Class Manager

Commencing in 2025, the AC40 Class Association will extend shore support and maintenance to all members, including expertise in electronics, mechatronics and hydraulics.

2 out of 2 for G-Spot in 11th Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series
Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series At the end of Act II, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spot) has emerged victor of the first two meetings in the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series. Now in its 11th season, these monthly regattas from November to March organised by Yacht Club de Monaco continue to offer a fabulous setting for teams from all over Europe who come to prepare for the upcoming season. For many it's also a chance to fine-tune race skills at a venue set to host around a hundred one design boats for the 40th Primo Cup-Trophée UBS (7-10 March 2024).

Having finished in the top three of nine of the 11 races completed in Acts 1 and II, YCM's Serena di Lapigio is showing a consistency the rest are finding hard to disrupt, although the Swiss on Découvertes-Geomod did clinch 2nd place ahead of Lorenzo Bortolotti (Black Swan) with Pierrik Devic's Leonteq in 4th in Act II.

In the Corinthians, TinnJ70 helmed by YCM's Cesare Gabasio led from start to finish ahead of another YCM member, Matteo Scandolera (Irruenza) with the Swiss on Team 838 completing the podium in 3rd place.

Next up at Yacht Club de Monaco are the coveted YCM Awards and UBS Trophy on 21st December when members vote for the Yachtsman of the Year, a close-run contest given the high level of success.

No sooner are the kids back at school and the next generation turn up from far afield for the international 14th Monaco Optimist Team Race (10-14 January 2024) for the elite in this discipline. The season continues with Act III of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series (8-11 February) and the fourth and final Act combined with the 40thPrimo Cup-Trophée UBS (7-10 March), a flagship event for one design classes, keenly anticipated by the J/70 Monaco Class Association as it has one of the largest fleets in the Med. with some 20 boats sailing all year round.

2024 Royal Ocean Racing Club Calendar
The Royal Ocean Racing Club Season's Points Championship is the world's largest offshore racing series. Last year, 9223 sailors raced in an astounding variety of 729 offshore certified boats. Over the past ten editions of the RORC Season's Points Championship, the overall winning boat has always been under 47ft (14.33m) and more often than not crewed by a Corinthian team. The overall winner is decided by the IRC Rating Rule, jointly administered by the RORC and the UNCL Pôle Course du YCF. The overall trophies in nearly all the world's blue riband offshore races are awarded using the IRC rating system.

The 2024 RORC Season's Points Championship is already underway; the first points scoring race was the Rolex Middle Sea Race held in October. Class winners for the RORC Season are decided by the best five race results over the season which ends in September 2024. The overall win for the Jazz Trophy goes to the boat with the most points from all of the scoring races.

The next two scoring races are the RORC Transatlantic Race, and the RORC Caribbean 600. After that, all the RORC Season's Points Championship races are held in Northern Europe with the vast majority starting on the Royal Yacht Squadron Line, Cowes.

During 2024, the Royal Ocean Racing Club is organising or assisting with four inshore racing events. The RORC Easter Challenge, The GBR IRC National Championships, The Vice Admiral's Cup and the IRC European Championships. All of the inshore regattas will feature multiple races per day on technical windward leeward racecourses or longer inshore races.

RORC Racing Manager Steve Cole and the RORC Race Team are excited about the 2024 Season. "Despite 2024 not being a 'Fastnet Year', the RORC Race Team are preparing and planning for a very busy season with 16 offshore races and four inshore regattas, including the IRC National and European Championships," commented Steve Cole. "The RORC Cowes Clubhouse is undergoing a major redevelopment this winter and unfortunately will not be ready for the Easter Challenge. However, thanks to the support of the Royal Yacht Squadron, the post-race debriefings will take place in the RYS pavilion. Once the RORC Clubhouse and its purpose-designed building is ready, it will also become home to the RORC Race Office, as well as a superb venue for Club Members and their guests to enjoy social events. The RORC has always co-operated with other yacht clubs and we will be giving full support to the championship regattas in Poole and Dublin." -- Louay Habib/RORC

2024 Aegean 600

Aegean 600 Organizers at the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) are pleased to announce the 2024 edition of the Aegean 600 is now open for entry. The event is being held over 5-13 July 2024 and is co-organized by the host venue at Olympic Marine.

Now in its fourth annual edition, the race has grown in interest and popularity every year, with last year's third edition attracting 500 sailors racing on 45 yachts from 16 nations. What attracts them is this race's unique format: a scenic offshore journey of 605 miles that starts and finishes under the watchful gaze of the Ancient Temple of Poseidon poised on the sea cliff above Attica's Cape Sounio.

Besides this amazing and historic start and finish venue, the course itself is a spectacular tour that passes 13 iconic Greek islands, including a lap around the volcanic caldera of Santorini in the first part of the race and later towards end of the race through a gap at the islands of Dilos and Mykonos.

The ever-present northerly Meltemi winds that can peak to over 30 knots propels the fleet around this course, challenging their skills in both seamanship and navigation, yet also delivering clear sunny skies, starry nights and warm waters throughout.

Seaworthy monohulls of minimum length of 9.00 m and seaworthy multihulls of length 9.15 m and larger are welcome to enter with ORC and/or IRC certificates.

Recognized offshore class yachts such as Dehler 30 One Designs, Class 40's, Mini 6.5's, Figaro 2's and Figaro 3's are also welcome to enter. The event will also welcome Maxi yachts as a race on the 2024 International Maxi Class (IMA's) calendar of events.

This week: Micky Beckett, top ILCA 7 sailor
Climbing through the fleet is really hard, but it is possible if you're systematic about the approach. Whether you're talking about an individual race or where you sit in the general pecking order, this week's guest will have some great insights on how to battle your way to the front.

Micky Beckett has been competing in the Laser/ ILCA 7 singlehander for many years and gradually he's worked his way to the front of the fleet. It's arguably the toughest of all the Olympic classes, with so much depth and talent in the fleet.

The British sailor narrowly missed out on winning the Olympic Test Regatta and the World Championships in 2023, and while he didn't quite get the better of Australia's Matt Wearn, two silvers along with a host of other podiums throughout the season marks Micky out as a hot favourite for a medal at next summer's Olympic Regatta.

Get online with Road To Gold this Thursday for a free Zoom call and a 60-minute Q&A session with Micky, and learn how to apply his hard-earned experience to your own sailing ventures.

Day One Scorcher Sets Sail Sydney Alight
Competition was hot on day one of Sail Sydney today, where twelve Olympic nation quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be available across the ten Olympic classes.

With temperatures nudging 30 degrees, athletes across the two venues on Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay were left chasing an inconsistent 5-11 knots of breeze before enjoying the shade on offer at Woollahra Sailing Club and Georges River Sailing Club at the respective venues.

Australia has yet to achieve a nation quota in the 49er class, which adds additional excitement to the competition with just one point separating the Australian Sailing Team pair of Jim Colley and Shaun Connor and the Australian Sailing Squad duo of Tom Burton and Max Paul atop the leaderboard.

With no other Oceanic countries starting at Sail Sydney, the nation quota should is a formality for the Aussies; however, the Sail Sydney Regatta win is still all to play for within this very close contest.

Racing is scheduled to commence at midday tomorrow at both venues.

Visit the Sail Sydney website for more information on the regatta, and view a full list of results here.
