Happy Monday mood in the Trade Winds
The Monday morning mood is generally upbeat and good among the duos racing on the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre. After Martinique welcomed the first two ULTIM pairs last night there is always a mental lift for the fleet as - even if it is along way off - there is an now an end in sight.

The main IMOCA peloton, that is to say those pushing south and west, is very much getting the race they want. Among the ten or so boats on this side of the track it is a real trade winds speed test, fast reaching in relatively flat water. This is their chance to try different modes and set ups - small adjustments - sheeting positions, foil angles and heights and constantly calibrating the pilot systems.

And for the Class40s leaders there is a convergence happening as Amarris (Achille Nebout and Gildas Mahe) meets up with the teams which went more east at the Canaries. And actually Alla Grande Pirelli (Ambrogio Beccaria and Nico Andrieu) are more than 100 miles south of Amarris.

In the IMOCA class the leaders are still Swiss skipper Justine Mettraux and France's Julien Villion (Teamwork.net) who are about 120 miles SW of the Azores and sailing upwind.

49er European Championship: Proving ground for young Italians
Two hours of waiting were worth it for Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei who solidified their lead on the fleet by eight points with a 6,2.

An unceremonious swim for Briton John Gimson and charging world champions combined to drop he and Anna Burnet to third place behind Italians Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti.

Tita and Banti won the day with a 1,4 climbing to second and were the first to figure out when to pop the Nacra onto the foils upwind in the building Seabreeze. "The goal today was to find the right place and the right moment to decide when to foil and when not," said Banti.

The Italians acknowledged that there was plenty of racing left before the medal race. And their training partners, Ugolini and Giubilei, are not intimidated nor are they giving in, rather the pair from C.S. Aeronautica Military in Rome, have no intention of giving up their grip on first, in the regatta, nor for a nomination for the Olympics.

BSI Evolves Group Brand Image to Reflect Expanded Portfolio
BSI The recently renamed BSI Marine Equipment Group is proud to launch its new brand image ahead of METS 2023. The forward-thinking strategy is clear. The BSI Marine Equipment Group's primary objective is to be at the forefront in the supply of high-quality specialist equipment to the marine industry, through investment in people, manufacturing facilities, processes, and new product development.

Here's how the BSI Marine Equipment Group has evolved.

Why BSI? BSI is an established brand in the marine industry as a manufacturer of standing rigging and hardware solutions for production and custom sailing yachts, yet it is one of eight companies owned by the parent group. The BSI Marine Equipment Group includes BSI Rigging, Easy, GORI Propeller, Hundested Propeller, Jefa Steering, Moonlight, OYS and their most recent acquisition Ocean Marine System (OMS).

Why Marine Equipment Group? "We are marine equipment manufacturers," explains Morten Madsen CEO of the BSI Marine Equipment Group. "Manufacturing, processes, project management and the delivery of high-quality specialist equipment for sailing boats and larger motorboats is at the heart of our business." To meet customer needs around the world, The BSI Marine Equipment Group has locations in Denmark, France, the UK and the USA in addition to a global network of certified agents, service centres and sales agents.

Madsen goes on to explain that METSTRADE brings the global marine industry together, and that is what makes it the perfect place for the BSI Marine Equipment Group to exhibit and launch their new overarching brand image. He invites you to meet with representatives from all companies at METS in Hall 12 on Stand 540, from the 15th to 17th November 2023.

Cup Spy Nov 11: American Magic makes the most of a frustrating day
American Magic was the only America's Cup team to sail on Saturday, they sailed out of Barcelona in a light, marginal racing breeze. Skipper Paul Goodison confirms the team will compete in Jeddah.

What happened in the Cup - November 11, 2023:

- American Magic - American Magic rolled out their AC75 Patriot, and went though a long day, in light winds, in a session that was later described as more about commissioning. Skipper Paul Goodison more, or less confirmed that the team will be sailing in Jeddah - the Preliminary Event from which they had previously requested being excused on security/safety grounds.

- Alinghi Red Bull Racing - are in Jeddah with two AC40s. They were caught in a sudden 25kts rainsquall yesterday. They suffered no outward But did not sail today, Saturday.

- Emirates Team New Zealand - It's the weekend in New Zealand, and ETNZ do not normally sail weekends unless there is an urgent requirement.

- Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli - Probably had the weekend off, too, No report of the Italians sailing their LEQ12 test boat off Cagliari.

- INEOS Britannia - The Brits also appear to have had the weekend off.

- Orient Express Racing Team - Their AC40 is en route to Jeddah.

All teams are/have shipped AC40s to Jeddah for the second Preliminary Event at the end of November. No further official update on security concerns, other than Goodison's passing comments, today.

Crosshaven's Classic Northele Comes Quietly Into the Limelight
Northele headed down the Owenboy River under the full spread of her notably large mainsail, bound out for an enjoyable day sail in familiar waters of Cork Harbour. Photo by Mary Malone. Click on image to enlarge.

Northele When God made time, he made a lot of it. You need a proper regard for that sense of under-stated reverence and patience when considering the very complete restoration in Crosshaven of Anthony and Sally O'Leary's unique yet universally appealing Sandy Balfour-designed sloop Northele.

And the basic story is here

When Northele finally went afloat in her superbly regenerated style, it was quietly done, a local affair, and she has been allowed to become a much-admired focus for connoisseurs of superb craftsmanship simply by being there in various ports and anchorages - simply by making a stately arrival and then lying elegantly to her mooring or her anchor, or making for a distinct contrast with the more modern craft when berthed in a marina.

Double or Quits at the SSL Gold Cup Final Series in Gran Canaria
It's the fourth day of racing at the SSL Gold Cup in Gran Canaria, and it's also the double-points final race day for the 1/32 Finals. The wind is up, the sun is shining - perfect for yacht racing.

For the national teams in Fleet 2, Chile, Portugal, Estonia and Cuba, it's also a double race day, after they were unable to race yesterday when the wind died in the afternoon. They were the first out on the racecourse, greeted with a beautiful 10 knots from the north.

With so many points on offer, today is double the pressure, double the intensity, with the reward being progress to the 1/16 Finals for the top two teams from each Fleet.

The action resumes on Thursday 16th November as the 1/16 Finals of the SSL Gold Cup gets underway.

Cascais J70 Winter Series - Atlantic Cup
16 teams took part this past weekend in the second stage of the J70 Cascais Winter Series, the Atlantic Cup. Joining the growing local fleet, that counts in its ranks with Vasco Serpa's Solyd Sailing Team, current Europen Champions in the Class, a strong presence of the spanish armada with Luis Bugallo's Marnatura, a consistent top finisher at worlds and Europen events and Jorge Doreste current Spanish champion in Noticia leading the charge. British Melges 24 and SB20 multi world Champion sailor Geoff Carveth joined forces with Finn Dickinson, just crowned ILCA U21 World Champion aboard UK's JellyFish and Artem Basalkin also a SB20 World Champion joined German Sergey Kirshenin Sparkle/Active Sailing.

Only two races were sailed on Saturday in a shifting and eventually fading 4 to 8knots Westerly breeze.

On Sunday the races were cancelled while the fleet was waiting onshore for wind. One of those rare days in Cascais.

Very volatile results due to the tough conditons and fierce competition. three spanish teams at the top. Marnatura topped the table with 8 points, Noticia was second with 9 and Pazo de Cea was third winning the tie with locals Solyd Sailing Team on 11 points. The ladies of BBDouro did very well and finished 5th overall.

Next stop in Cascais for the J70s is the Portuguese Nationals from the 8th to the 10th of December.

"The DORIS Restoration" Presented by Dave Snediker
Join us on Thursday, November 16 at 6:00 PM for a presentation with David Snediker of Snediker Yacht Restoration. David will discuss the story of DORIS, the 1905, 78', Herreshoff yacht, that is being restored at Snediker Yacht Restoration. Built in Bristol, Rhode Island, in 1905, by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co., DORIS changed the course of American yachting and has been given National Historic Register recognition. The restoration is on course for completion in 2025.

Languishing in a boat yard in New London CT for 30 years, DORIS, the largest all-wood sailing vessel built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Co in 1905, was scheduled to be scrapped at the end of August 2013. Given a one-year lease on life by the generous collaboration of a good friend and Snediker Yacht Restoration of Pawcatuck, a search for a new owner was spearheaded. Now, thanks to an enthusiastic client, DORIS has been saved.
