Rolex Middle Sea Race Overall Winner Announcement
At 2100 CEST on Wednesday, 25 October, the winner of the 44th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race was announced as the Italian Wally 93 Bullitt, skippered by Andrea Recordati.

The announcement was made shortly after the double-handed entry Red Ruby crossed the finish line at 20.51.35, 24 seconds outside the time required to move into first place.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club has confirmed that none of the remaining yachts still racing is able to better Bullitt's corrected time.

"When I came into the Rolex Middle Sea Race my dream was to win class," said Recordati, on being informed by the Race Director. "That would have been a fantastic result in itself against boats more adapted to this type of offshore race."

"Coming first overall in corrected time, honestly, I am still having difficulty believing it. I am ecstatic. I am super happy for the boat, she deserves it. We put a lot of effort in to optimise and improve her. I am especially happy for my crew. I have an exceptional team and they really deserve this too."

Clipper Race fleet begins race across South Atlantic from Punta del Este to Cape Town
It was a light-wind start for the third race making for a tricky line crossing. The first yacht across was Our Isles and Oceans (skippered by Max Rivers), followed by Yacht Club Punta del Este (skippered by local Nano Antia) second over, followed by Zhuhai in third. With two teams, PSP Logistics and Dare To Lead playing their Joker in this race, it's definitely set to be an even more intense battle for the top spots. The Joker enables teams to double the number of points scored, and can only be played once in a circumnavigation.

This race (Race 3) is a 3,500 nautical mile challenge from Punta del Este, Uruguay to Cape Town, South Africa. Yacht Club Punta del Este will be looking to hold onto the top spot on the race leaderboard. Race Skipper Nano Antia, who won the previous race into his hometown, said ahead of leaving the dock: "It's been such a special stopover for me - I was born and raised here, so it's truly inspiring for me. I'm very very proud of my team and all of the effort we put in as this really paid off.

Typically, the race features fast, downwind conditions in huge swells, however the current forecast means that the yachts will first have to battle some tough headwinds.

The Clipper 2023-24 Race began in Portsmouth, UK in September 2023 before sailing to Puerto Sherry in Spain and across the Atlantic Ocean to Punta del Este in Uruguay. The next stage of the adventure will see the eleven-strong matched fleet sail to Cape Town, South Africa, and the teams are expected to arrive between 6-10 November.

RSAero European Youth Team race championships
The Lega Navale del Sulcis, by delegation of the Italian Sailing Federation and in collaboration with Canottieri Ichnusa Cagliari and the RS Aero Class, will be organising the 2nd European Youth Team race Championship from 26 to 29 October

Up to 10 teams representing eight nations will take part in four days of international competition with a high social and cultural value, enjoying the pleasant temperatures at the end of October, all in the splendid setting of the city of Cagliari, an increasingly popular destination for sailing disciplines and regattas.

Cagliari's tourist harbour is sheltered and very convenient for spectators to follow the '2 versus 2' challenges, in which for each match two boats from one team race against two other boats from another team. The still very pleasant climate and the easily reachable location, thanks to the proximity of Cagliari's international airport, are a further reason to reach the Sardinian capital from all over Europe and take part in this event, which will be held with the RS Aero single boat, chosen with the smallest sail of 5 square metres (RS Aero 5) precisely to guarantee everyone an easy mastery of the boat, which in team regattas must be managed with special sailing skills and tactics, at low speed and according to a specific "Team Race" regulation.

Each nation will be represented by one male and one female, both under 22, who after qualifying in the first days, will eventually access the final scheduled for Sunday 29 October. The nations represented will be Italy, Great Britain, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany and Portugal, with the possibility of late entries from Sweden and the Netherlands.

Lighthouse New Zealand Match Racing Championships
The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) is proud to announce the 2023 New Zealand Match Racing Championships sponsored by Lighthouse- racing is underway today, October 26, with the finals planned for Saturday, looking to avoid the strong winds forecast for Sunday.

The three-day event will feature intense match racing between some of the best match racers from New Zealand and overseas and is the country's premier Match Racing Regatta. Continued contamination in the Waitemata Harbour caused by a wastewater overflow rendered racing on the waters outside the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron unfeasible. However, with some all-hands-on deck action and generosity from Bucklands Beach Yacht Club (BBYC), RNZYS was able to move the event to BBYC the day before racing commenced.

Adding further logistical challenges to the weekend is tropical cyclone Lola which currently sits between Vanuatu and New Caledonia as a Category 1 system tracking south-west. Current forecasting models predict the system will be downgraded to a tropical low which could cause strong winds as it moves closer to New Zealand and merges with another low-pressure system. Strong winds are expected for Sunday's scheduled finals, prompting the race committee to work hard over the coming days which will allow finals to be held on Saturday instead.

Entries open for Sail Melbourne and Sail Sydney
Entries have opened and the Notice of Race released for two of Australia's iconic off-the-beach regattas, with Sail Melbourne and Sail Sydney now open for business.

Both events are critical to the growth and success of junior and youth sailors, enabling them to race alongside their Olympic heroes. The events this year bear extra weight, with Sail Sydney doubling as the Oceania Olympic Qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Sail Melbourne has been a fixture in the Australian sailing calendar since its inception in 1992, and this year will be no different.

This year's event will again be organised and hosted by the Royal Brighton Yacht Club from the 30th of November to the 3rd of December and will host a range of Olympic and Invited classes as well as the inaugural Victorian Para Sailing Championships.

The regatta is running earlier in the summer than usual in order to meet Olympic qualification requirements, something Mixed 470 skipper and Tokyo 2020 Olympian Nia Jerwood is looking forward to.

"Sail Melbourne is an important regatta in the Australian calendar," said Jerwood.

"It's a great way to prepare for the international season ahead. The regatta always presents unique challenges and often interesting weather conditions which keeps you on your toes."

Sail Sydney will run from the 9th to the 18th of December and on top of the Oceania Olympic Qualifier will also include the Formula Kite and Windfoiling Nationals.

Organised in partnership by Woollahra Sailing Club (WSC), Sail Sydney will take place across two separate venues – WSC and Georges River Sailing Club (GRSC) (Windfoiling and Formula Kitefoiling). The always-strong local fleets are expected to be joined by a strong field of international entries, particularly with the ILCA 7 World Championships taking place in Adelaide in January 2024.

Online entries as well as the Notice of Race are now available on the Sail Melbourne and Sail Sydney websites.

Made in Looe Regatta
Looe, a quaint fishing port and holiday resort in the corner of South East Cornwall, has long been leaving an indelible mark on the UK's maritime history.

That boatbuilding heritage is now set to be commemorated with a special 'Made In Looe' Regatta being staged in the harbour next June (2024).

From the early 20th Century builders, like the Angear, Pengelly and the Ferris families, Looe's maritime mark continued on to the Pearn brothers, Norman and Gerald, and through to Arthur Collings, Ray Dann, Clifford Adams and Brian Porter among many others. More recently father-and-son Jim and David Currah's hand-built wooden Cornish Pilot Gigs have filled eight of the top ten positions at the World Pilot Gig Rowing championships on the Isles of Scilly.

But perhaps the best known of all the many master craftsmen from Looe was naval architect Alan Pape, whose designs and builds can still be found in many of the marinas in this country and even farther afield.

A myriad of boats, featuring virtually every construction method and material conceivable, have been built in Looe over the centuries, including fishing trawlers, leisure craft, sailing dinghies, speedboats and rowing boats.

Next year's June 14-16 regatta weekend will be a celebration of that historic legacy.

Anyone with a Looe-built vessel can register their interest (without obligation) by e-mailing details of their vessels to Paul Pengelly at: . They will then be kept informed of full details as the regatta plans are firmed up in the months ahead.

Scott Harris Wins 2023 International Masters Regatta
San Diego, Callifornia: As we headed in to the final day of racing at the International Masters Regatta, one thing was clear, everyone had tasted moments of victory and they all were salivating for more. There were several teams that had the potential to seize the title but no one was more determined than this year's overall winner, Scott Harris.

The third day of racing saw major shake ups from one mark rounding to the next while skippers moved wildly through the standings. Tad Lacey, Cory Sertl, and Gary Jobson were not about to go down without a fight.

With all the action in races ten and eleven, everything hinged on the last race of the day. Harris had held onto his lead but Lacey and Sertl were hot on his heels. Lacey rounded the first weather mark in second and Harris was bringing up the rear in tenth. Harris dominated the downwind leg and by the time he returned for the second weather mark rounding he had gained seven boats. It was clear at that point that Harris's tenacity was enough to secure him the championship if he could just maintain his position.

As Harris crossed the finish line he was met with horns blasting and spectators cheering. It was a hard fought win, down to the very last race for Harris and his team including Chuck Sinks, Peter VanWaay, Justin Bingham, John Rogers and Seth Miller. They were consistent and steadfast, finishing nearly every race of the regatta in the top third of the fleet. Harris finished the regatta with 54 points overall followed by Lacey in second with 61, and Sertl in third with 64.
