MACIF Claims Monohull Rolex Fastnet Race Line Honours
Charlie Dalin and Pascal Bidegorry on board their brand new IMOCA MACIF Santé Prévoyance crossed the finish line of the 50th Rolex Fastnet Race at 20:31:26 BST this evening. In doing so she:

- Won the highly competitive IMOCA class by 4 minutes and 6 seconds ahead of Paprec Arkéa sailed by Yoann Richomme and Yann Elies. She was first in a field of 29 starters

- Won monohull line honours, ahead of race favourite Bryon Ehrhart's 88ft Lucky

- Set a new monohull race record of 2 days 7 hours 16 minutes and 26 seconds for the new course to Cherbourg beating Skorpios' 2021 time of 2 days 8 hours 33 minutes and 55 seconds, an improvement 1 hour 17 minutes 29 seconds

Impossibly close Ocean Fifty victory for Berry and Joubert

Earlier this evening Anglo-Frenchman Luke Berry and Antoine Joubert on Le Rire Medecin Lamotte crossed the Cherbourg finish at 19:59:04 to claim the title in the Ocean Fifty trimaran class. They had been locked in a match race with Viabilis, sailed by Pierre Quiroga and Justin Baradat since Saturday afternoon when the boats departed Cowes, winning the class by just 1 minute 26 seconds.

They arrived on the heels on Erik Maris' MOD70 Zoulou, which crossed the line at 18:03:15 with a crew including multihull legend Loick Peyron and America's Cup winner Thierry Fouchier.

Yesterday's trickle of yachts competing in this special 50th Rolex Fastnet Race last night turned into a torrent. Bryon Ehrhart's monohull line honours favourite led the single-hulled fleet around the Fastnet Rock shortly before 21:00 BST but the 88ft long canting keel weapon was only seven miles ahead the first IMOCA, Yoann Richomme's Paprec Arkea, with 2021 winner, Charlie Dalin's MACIF a further nine miles astern.

This morning the boats reaching southwest to Bishop Rock have been sailing into building breeze the west side of a dying depression currently centred over the west English Channel. This has created some compression in the fleet with Lucky reeling in the two Ocean Fifty trimarans ahead of her, while in turn she was overtaken by the foil-borne IMOCAs Paprec Arkea and MACIF by the time this trio reached Bishop Rock at around 05:00. Since then they have turned their bows back into the Channel and been sailing towards the centre of the depression, awaiting a favourable shift before gybing out.

The MOCRA class defending champion, Adrian Keller's Irens 84 catamaran Allegra, rounded the Fastnet Rock at 22:35 BST, followed three hours and 50 minutes later by Ken Howery's Gunboat 68 Tosca and the rest of the doublehanded IMOCA fleet. Notably three female IMOCA skippers were holding fifth to seventh positions, led by Sam Davies (with Nicolas Lunven) on Initatives Coeurs; Davies' former Team SCA crew Justine Mettraux (with Julien Villion) on Teamwork; then Clarisse Cremer (with Alan Roberts) on L'Occitaine - all doing very well among the 27 IMOCAs still racing.

Spain stuns SailGP fleet in Los Angeles
In just his fifth event at the helm of an F50, Spanish driver Diego Botin led his Spain SailGP Team to a stunning victory at the Oracle Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix. In his first ever event final, which took place at the Port of Los Angeles, Botin delivered a perfect start and was never caught to defeat Nicolai Sehested's ROCKWOOL Denmark and defending SailGP champions Tom Slingsby's Australia.

In a staggering finish to the event, Spain had squeaked into the final after winning fleet race four and finishing ninth in fleet race five to edge out Phil Robertson's Canada for the final spot in the top three with seconds to spare.

In his fourth event final, Sehested won the start but in the light winds struggled to get on the foils - despite the 29 meter wingsail - and couldn't hold on at the first mark. Denmark ended up battling with Australia and allowing Spain a healthy lead. But in the light airs and the remaining minutes the fleet compressed and it looked like Denmark might snatch back the lead however Spain managed to hold on and Denmark had to settle for second in what's been a bright start to Season 4 for the Danish team.

Emirates Great Britain endured a torrid day on the waters of Los Angeles, starting in contention for the final but logging a ninth and an eighth in the two fleet races on day two to drop to sixth in the event standings.

Winners in Chicago, Peter Burling's New Zealand never hit its stride in LA to finish the event in seventh, one ahead of a disappointing France with Quentin Delapierre's team showing little of the form that nearly took them to last season's Grand Final.

Season 4 of SailGP now heads to Europe for the remainder of the Northern Hemisphere summer, kicking off with the France Sail Grand Prix in Saint-Tropez on September 9 and 10. Details and tickets are available at SailGP.com/SaintTropez.

Whooper Wins British Classic Week

British Classic Week After a six-race series in windy conditions, Laurent Giles designed sloop Whooper triumphed to win this year's British Classic Week regatta overall. There was just one point between Whooper and second place Timoa after a competitive week of fast-paced racing.

This year's British Classic Week welcomed a fleet of over 40 classic and modern classic sail and motor yachts from the UK and across Europe. Yachts ranged from a 26ft Stella to a recently launched Spirit 72DH. The oldest yacht in the fleet was a gaff rigged yacht named Eilun built in 1896. This year's entries also included a 6mR class competing in an eight-race series ahead of the 6mR worlds later in the summer.

Despite high winds forcing postponement of racing on day one of the regatta, the race management team at the Royal Yacht Squadron managed to hold a full six-race series for the main fleet, including the 30nm NAB Tower Race and the Lady Helm Race.

Class 1 was won by Spirit 52 Happy Forever, which travelled to British Classic Week from Spain. Overall regatta winner Whooper won class 2, and class 3 was won by a Kim Holman designed Stella named Timoa. Whooper also won the Lady Helm Race and Timoa took the title for the NAB Tower Race.

In the 6mR Open Division, Oiva delivered four wins and four second places to win the class. Abu made it five wins out of eight races to win the 6mR Classic Division.

World Sailing Show meets the Dutch team ahead of the Allianz Sailing World Championships
July's episode of the World Sailing Show catches up with the Dutch sailing team ahead of the Allianz Sailing World Championships, The Hague, in August and finds out the secrets to their recent success.

After winning four of the six classes at the World Cup in Almere, and following success at Tokyo 2020, the Dutch team continue to push each other, learn and will be looking to replicate these achievements at the Allianz Sailing World Championships, The Hague - and then at Paris 2024.

The World Sailing Show also visits The Ocean Race as the fleet leave Aarhus in an 800-mile sprint to The Hague, The Netherlands, with competition for places heating up ahead of the final race to Genoa. It was 11th Hour Racing who triumphed, winning a third successive leg ahead of Holcim, with WindWhisper opening up an unassailable lead in the Sprint Trophy.

Hamble Winter Series 2023 - Entries are open!
Photo by Paul Wyeth, www.pwpictures.com. Click on image for photo gallery.

Hamble Winter Series Whilst last year's Yacht of the Series, JAGO, J109, Mike and Susie Yates and indeed a good number of other regular competitors, are sailing round the Fastnet Rock, entries have already opened for the 2023 Hamble Winter Series, organised by the Hamble River Sailing Club.

The 42nd running of the Series will start on the weekend of the 7th & 8th of October, and continue through to Sunday 3rd December 2023. Yachts entering the main series will have two races a day on the first four Sundays and one per day on the last four Sundays, when the light and the weather are less helpful.

The Hamble IRC Autumn Championships will take place over the weekend of 14th & 15th October and boats entered for the whole of the Hamble Winter Series will once again be entered into the championships free of charge.

With One Design racing back on the increase in the Solent, five classes are already signed up for the two weekends of the Hamble One Design Championships. The J70 Class and SB20 Class will be returning once again. The Cape 31 Class, who came for the first time last year, are back for the two weekends this time and they will also continue with two races a day on the last four Sundays to complete their winter series. Can Jiraffe hold on to the trophy this year? The J111s will be finishing off their season by attending the two OD weekends for the first time in 2023. The RS21 Class will be coming to the weekend of the 21st & 22nd October to complete their summer series.

Entry fees for 2023 are the same as last year and Earlybird entries for IRC yachts competing in the whole main series will not close until 8th September 2023. -- Trevor Pountain

The Bermuda Gold Cup is Back
The 71st running of the Bermuda Gold Cup, hosted by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, will be presented in partnership with the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Oct. 2-7.

Additionally, RenaissanceRe, a Bermuda-based global reinsurance provider, will also sponsor the event as well as the RenaissanceRe Junior Gold Cup, an invitational event for Optimist sailors scheduled Oct. 4-7.

"We're very grateful for the support from Bermuda Tourism Authority and RenaissanceRe," said event chair Jon Corless, a Past Commodore of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. "BTA has long been a supporter of the Gold Cup and RenaissanceRe has sponsored the Junior Gold Cup since its inception in 2002. We're thrilled to have both regattas up and running again."

The Bermuda Gold Cup, a World Championship event of the World Match Racing Tour, is one of the world's most storied match race regattas. The trophy, the King Edward VII Gold Cup, was first awarded by King Edward VII at the 1907 Tri-Centenary Regatta in Virginia.

First raced as a match race regatta in 1937, the King Edward VII Gold Cup is the oldest match racing trophy in the world for competition in one-design yachts and is the only King's Cup ever to be offered for competition in the United States, which could be won outright.
