Double Dutch glory on final day of Paris 2024 Test Event
The Netherlands closed out the Paris 2024 Test Event with a pair of gold medals to build momentum less than a month out from contesting the Allianz Sailing World Championships on home waters.

Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz set the ball rolling with victory in the 49erFX, with Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken clinching their gold in the 49er class straight after.

Elsewhere, Gigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei (ITA) claimed gold in dramatic fashion in the Nacra 17, while Nicolas Goyard gave France a fourth gold later in the day in the iQFOiL men in unusual circumstances.

And in the iQFOiL women, Sharon Kantor (ISR) maintained her flying form in the latter stages of the regatta with victory in the final.

M32 European Championship
Andrea LaCorte and his Vitamina Veloce Cetilar team executed a stunning, stand-out performance this weekend in Riva del Garda to win the M32 European Championship and the M32 European Series title.

Conditions were picture perfect: This primetime July weekend showcased why this is the place holds the top spot on every sailor's bucket list. Lake Garda has been a summer haven for M32 sailors for years. "These catamarans in this place is the perfect marriage," said LaCorte.

It was a Vitamina masterclass: They grabbed the European Championship lead on the first day and never loosened their grip.

The curtain is closed on the Italian summer for the M32 fleet. Next up is the World Championship Newport this fall followed by a Miami winter. Riva will host four events next summer including the World Championship.

It's Old News as New Wave Claims IC37 National Championship, Again
Newport RI: For the second straight year, Steve Liebel's New Wave is the IC37 National Champion. Liebel and his veteran team were nearly unstoppable over the course of five races, winning three and not placing worse than fourth in the competitive 16-boat fleet. The final margin of victory over second place was an astounding 16 points. While heavy winds and the threat of lightning storms cancelled the third day of the regatta, there was little doubt what team was the class of the field this weekend.

The 2023 IC37 National Championship was hosted by the New York Yacht Club in Newport, R.I., concurrently with the ORC East Coast Championship. While the IC37 class, the premiere big-boat one-design class in North America, focused on buoy racing, the ORC competition featured a mix of buoy racing and point-to-point races, giving the 20 competitors from 31 to 74 feet in length a hint of what's to come next fall when the Club hosts the 2024 ORC World Championship.

IC37 (One Design - 16 Boats) - Top five final results
1. New Wave, USA023, Steve Liebel - 1 -2 -1 -4 -1 ; 9
2. Qubit, GBR015, Chris Lewis - 7 -7 -7 -1 -3 ; 25

18ft Skiff Racing Sponsorships

18ft Skiff Long-term sponsorships in sport are rare and any sport which has been fortunate enough to have one must be either lucky or be doing something 'right', or both. To have two sponsorships which have been on-going for the past 27 years, and are preparing for another season of racing, can only mean that the 'product' is a very good one.

The 'product' IS a very good one, it's the iconic Australian 18 footers, which has a continuous history of 131 years of sailing races on Sydney Harbour, since it was introduced in January 1892.

During that time the sport has produced young competitors who have gone on to international stardom with numerous gold, silver and bronze medals at several Olympics, won the America's Cup as designers (Ben Lexcen) and competitors, won World and other International senior and youth championships, and set world records of speed and tactical skill.

Since the late 1970s, when the 18 footers set the world standard for technology by the use of high-tech materials in the construction of the boats. Now, with the introduction of modern technology in communications, the Australian 18 footer racing on Sydney Harbour every weekend during the Australian summer months (October to March, inclusive), the Australian 18 Footers League features a live stream video coverage to the world.

The two sponsors who have been continuous with the Australian 18 Footers League since they first sponsored skiffs in the 1996-97 season are Smeg Australia and the Rag & Famish Hotel, but they are not the only long-term sponsors who have been associated with the 18s. -- Frank Quealey, Australian 18 Footers League Ltd.

Kiwis Set The Tone In Barcelona
After a remarkably efficient re-commission day on Friday, Emirates Team New Zealand again took advantage of the weather window in Barcelona for an entertaining session on Saturday in perfect conditions and a flat sea state where the Defenders of the 37th America's Cup quite simply excelled.

Warning shots are being fired all along the Barcelona beachfront that Emirates Team New Zealand means business and they translated their high-octane practice sessions in breezy, puffy Auckland effortlessly to the Mediterranean and looked more than comfortable in a breeze that fluctuated between 9-13 knots all afternoon.

The sailors elected to stay close to shore today - the data they will be amassing on the breakwater wash and the swells that kick up off the sunken man-made reefs that dot along the underwater profile of the America's Cup course will be like gold-dust to the technicians and analysts that have been itching to see for themselves what the real-world environment of Barcelona is like. For sure, the team have trawled through the recon videos analysing in minute detail what others have experienced, but this was day two of an intense four-month programme and they hit the ground running.

European Dream Cup
Gargnano, Lake Garda: The curtains officially closed on the inaugural European Dream Cup after two intense weeks of learning, socializing, and sailing for the 60 young sailors who gathered in Gargnano, Lake Garda.

After a full day of racing, with three regattas held for the Silver Fleet and four for the Gold Fleet, Dutch Sail emerged as the triumphant team, claiming the top spot on the podium. They were followed by the Austrian UYC Wolfgangsee and the Danish Kongelig Dansk Yachtklub.

Team Austria: "Compared to the 69F, every other boat will now feel boring for us! Jokes aside, we are thrilled as a team to have had the opportunity to participate in the European Dream Cup for the past two weeks. We are eagerly looking forward to future events involving the 69F. If we had to describe this boat in one word, it would be 'crazy'! We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in organizing this incredible event!" -- Rachele Vitello

The first round-the-world Ultims race, the Arkea Ultim Challenge Brest, will start on January 7, 2024. With registration closing on June 30, 2023, we now know which competitors and trimarans will set off around the world.

Five sailors will be lining up at the start of the Arkea Ultim Challenge on January 7, 2024. Registration closed on June 30, 2023, and we now know which skippers will be sailing solo on their giant trimarans. They include Charles Caudrelier on Maxi Edmond de Rothschild, Armel Le Cléac'h on Banque Populaire XI, Thomas Coville on Sodebo Ultim 3, Tom Laperche on SVR-Lazartigue and Anthony Marchand on Actual Ultim 3.

River Bar in Tall Ship Glenlee

River Bar A stunning river bar has been made by volunteers at Glasgow's Clyde Maritime Centre and installed in the Tall Ship Glenlee, a three-masted museum ship which operates as a visitor attraction and events venue. It's anticipated that the bar, made with Entropy Resins, will help the charity to recover from covid, and other challenges like the current cost-of-living, by attracting more events like weddings, parties and corporate functions.

Glenlee, built on the Clyde (once one of the main shipbuilding rivers in the world), took up residence in her current location in 2011. She'd been rescued by the then Clyde Maritime Trust as part of the 1990s rebranding of Glasgow as a city of culture.

Since launching 126 years ago, she's enjoyed an incredible history including ownership by Italians who installed her engines (under the name Clarastella). She spent sixty years with the Spanish Navy (under the name Galatea) before being abandoned in Seville in the 1980s. In the late 80s she sank after a fire onboard, and the Spanish Navy was close to scrapping her, but in the end, it sold her at auction. She was bought by the Clyde Maritime Trust. In 1993, after spending nine days under tow from Seville, she was 'patched-up' in Greenock and regained her original name - Glenlee.
