WindWhisper Racing Team wins Stage 3 into Genova
WindWhisper Racing Team won the final leg of The Ocean Race VO65 Sprint into Genova, beating the rest of the fleet by a massive margin.

The Polish boat crossed the finish line in just six knots of breeze at 10:27:52 UTC with a leg time of 10 days 23 hours 17 minutes and 52 seconds. With the rest of the fleet still to cover more than 100 nautical miles in very light winds, WindWhisper could win the leg from The Hague to Genova by more than 18 hours.

With skipper Pablo Arrarte (ESP) unable to take part in the final leg, it was left to previous race winner Daryl Wislang (NZL) to take up the skipper's role. "It's an amazing feeling to arrive here, happy to be part of the team, and I was lucky enough to take the handlebars for the last leg."

Yes! Overall IRC Champions by a whisker
The IRC National Championships has been the battleground for close victories in the past, with Rán winning last year by 0.005 of a point. However, the 2023 Overall IRC National Champion was decided by an even smaller margin. Adam Gosling's JPK 1080 Yes! scored second place in Race 8 by four seconds after IRC time correction. This gave Yes! the overall IRC National Championships by 0.004 of a point.

Giovanni Belgrano's 39ft classic sloop Whooper was the overall runner-up, winning the Jackdaw Trophy as well as IRC Four. Tony Langley's TP52 Gladiator made a welcome return to Solent racing winning IRC One. James Howell's Cape 31 Gelert was the winner of IRC Two and the Roger Grainger Trophy for the best performing RORC boat.

Spectacular conditions prevailed for the final day of the IRC National Championship. The RORC Race Team delayed the start of racing to allow a solid south-westerly to establish and it was well worth the wait, as 16-18 knots arrived in the combat zone. Congratulations to all the race winners on the final day: TP52 Gladiator, MAT 12 Sailplane 3, Cape 31 Gelert, JPK 1010 Elaine Again and the classic sloops Cetaweyo and Whooper.

Transpac first start preview
Tuesday at 1:00 PDT a group of 16 boats will cross the starting line in the vicinity of Point Fermin in San Pedro in the first start of the 2023 Transpac. After leaving the West End of Catalina to port they will sail another 2200 miles west towards the finish line at Diamond Head on Oahu... an epic journey.

They are the first of three waves of starting groups among 58 entries from Australia, Canada, Italy and the US in the 52nd edition of this biennial ocean racing classic, first sailed in 1906. Some are racing Transpac for the first time, others are veterans who keep coming back to enjoy this iconic race.

All-amateur teams on the race may qualify for the Nash Family Corinthian Trophy which is awarded to the team with the best corrected time performance among teams with all Category 1 sailors recognized by World Sailing.

There are numerous other trophies awarded in Transpac with these criteria:

- The Barn Door Trophy: This impressive 4-foot long slab of carved Hawaiian koa wood is awarded to the monohull that has completed the course in the fastest elapsed time. There are plaques for many legendary ocean racing yachts on this trophy.

- Merlin Trophy: first to finish monohull without moveable ballast and other high-performance features.

- Rudy Choy Perpetual Trophy: Awarded to the fastest multihull to complete the course.

- King Kalakaua Trophy: named after the late 19th century Hawaiian king whose inspirational idea for mainland-Hawaii cooperation prompted the founding of Transpac in 1906. This is awarded to the monohull entry with the fastest corrected time.

- E. Ben Mitchell Navigation Trophy: Awarded to the navigator of the Barn Door Trophy winner.

- Ronald L. Burla Trophy for Media Excellence: Awarded to the entry that provides the most creative and original media content related to their on-board experience while sailing in the Transpac Race.

- Storm Trysail Team Trophy: This award recognizes the best performance of a team of three yachts in any division, with no more than two yachts in the same division.

- Mark Rudiger Celestial Navigation Trophy: This prestigious trophy is awarded to the navigator who submits celestial navigation worksheets or evidence of traditional navigation to the finish inspectors immediately after finishing, and whose work is selected as the "best" by an impartial panel of judges.

- Ilio Aukai Highest Average Age Award: This award honors those teams whose average crew age demonstrates they still what it takes to race Transpac!

IRC Nationals Crew Supper
After the first day of racing at the RORC IRC Nationals, Jim Saltonstall MBE was the guest of honour for a Crew Supper at the RORC Clubhouse Cowes. The legendary sailing coach, familiar to any competitor at past RORC Easter Challenge Regattas, will be on the microphone after dinner. Speaking about his life and times as a sailing coach, including Team GBR, where Jim supervised the race training programmes of five Olympic gold, four silver, and two bronze medallists.

After the rousing talk, Jim was happy to sign copies of his biography: My Life in a Blue Suit. Available on Amazon and a damn good read!

Les Sables - Horta - Les Sables
The start of the first stage of the 9th edition of Les Sables - Horta - Les Sables will be given this Tuesday, June 27, at 1:02 p.m. The 16 competing duos will then set off for 1,270 miles bound for the Azores. A distance which should be covered at high speed since, according to the latest routings, the fastest boats could take only four and a half days to reach the Portuguese archipelago. Still, if on paper, this first act looks like a great schuss downwind, in practice, as often, things may not be as simple as it seems. In this case, transition phases could well spice up the game a little in the Bay of Biscay even if, indisputably, speed promises to be one of the key factors in this first part.

Charlie Dalin's new boat: The small steps to super-competitive performance

It's not hard to imagine the pressure when it comes to designing and building a new IMOCA for Charlie Dalin.

Charlie Dalin

It's not just about producing a boat that is faster than his main rivals at the top of the IMOCA fleet, it's also about creating something that is better than Dalin's old boat in which he enjoyed a spectacular run of success.

The team that has taken up this challenge for the two-time IMOCA GLOBE SERIES Champion and line honours finisher in the last Vendée Globe, is once again led by superstar French naval architect Guillaume Verdier alongside project management by MerConcept and construction by CDK Technologies in Port-la-Foret.

The technical manager for the project - the new boat is called MACIF Santé Prévoyance and was launched for the first time in Concarneau on Saturday - is MerConcept's Guillaume Combescure. He admits the old boat, Apivia, is an unavoidable performance reference.

At this stage in the evolution of the Class rule, and the relative maturity of the latest designs, Combescure argues there is no magic bullet when it comes to new boats and instead design and build teams are looking for a series of marginal gains. "From my point of view - and maybe this is not shared - you cannot make a big step," he explained. "That's what makes the job difficult. You have to make little steps in all the axes of development. That's the difficult part - you cannot achieve a revolution." -- Ed Gorman

There are not many new products in the 40-foot pure cruising segment (the new Dufour 41 will see the light of day at the end of June): that's why the Hanse 410, whose rendering we reveal here for the first time, is worth keeping an eye on.

Hanse 410

Hanse 410 - The cruiser according to Berret-Racoupeau
The boat, which will replace theHanse 418 (12.40 x 4.17 m), will be unveiled in the summer and once again bears the signature of French studio Berret-Racoupeau, with more than 30 years' experience in the world of production boats (Beneteau, Fountaine Pajot, but also Amel) the protagonist of the German shipyard's "new deal" and already the creator of theHanse 510 e 460 (here our test of the boat).

Reverse bow, edges, electric motor
Two project guidelines. Easy handling and good sailing performance. Roughly 12.50 meters long, the new Hanse 410 differs, and not just a little, from its predecessor (designed instead by Judel Vrolijk Studio).
