Dragon World Championship
The final day of the World Championship in Bodrum saw early rain and no wind. Consequently, the Race Officer Nino Shmueli kept the fleet ashore until conditions improved. The fleet were released at 11.15 and Race 7 started around 1pm. Unfortunately, a 40-degree wind shift on the first upwind meant November (N Flag) was displayed. So, race abandoned.

After the wind settled again, Race 7 was re-started with an "All Clear" line.

Prior to the start a fascinating Match Race was witnessed from the Committee Boat between SUI 318 and GBR 820, both trying to contrive a winning result. In the end it was to no avail as again the wind shifted "big time" to the left, so November Flag was displayed again.

A shame for the competitors but 100% the correct decision. The 2023 Worlds was over. 5 days, 6 Quality Races and new World Champions Wolf Waschkuhn, Joao Vidinha and Charles Nankin. A fantastic result for the current European Champion.

2nd was GBR 820 Grant Gordon and 3rd GBR 192 Graham Bailey helming the "Royal" Dragon Bluebottle.

Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta
Porto Cervo, Italy: The Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta officially kicks off in Porto Cervo today, 6th June 2023, with the captains' briefing followed by a welcome cocktail for participants on the rooftop terrace of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. The Club is organising the event, which launches the calendar of superyacht regattas in the Mediterranean, alongside title sponsor Giorgio Armani. Now in its 16th edition, the second in partnership with Giorgio Armani, the regatta will conclude on Saturday 10th June.

Twelve superyachts are currently moored in Porto Cervo marina, a fleet which from tomorrow will be sailing the waters of the Costa Smeralda and weaving through the islands of the La Maddalena archipelago, providing a unique backdrop to the racing.

The fleet has been divided into two divisions, Superyacht and Southern Wind, with the latter dedicated to boats from the shipyard of the same name. The Southern Wind Rendezvous, an integral part of the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, is an occasion for owners to compete in friendly races, which conclude with a sociable meet-up on the water before returning to the dock. The Superyacht division is in turn divided into 'Combined Performance & Cruising Class' and 'Superyacht Cruising Class', reserved for superyachts in accordance with the regulations of the Superyacht Racing Association. The winner of this class will be awarded the prestigious Silver Jubilee Cup.

Racing will take place over four days, through Saturday 10th June, with the size of the participating vessels meaning there will be a particular focus on safety. The Superyacht Division will have staggered starts every two to three minutes for this purpose. The courses, as always, will use the islands of the archipelago of La Maddalena as natural marks. As for the classic floating buoys used for the start, offset and finish line marks, organiser the YCCS will use MarkSetBot robotic buoys.

The forecast for tomorrow indicates light winds, which are set to strengthen in the following days. The first starting signal is expected to sound at 11.30 a.m. for the Southern Wind fleet, followed by the Superyacht division at 12 midday.

Alinghi Red Bull Racing switches to match racing mode with two AC40s
The first match race training sessions have begun on the 37th America's Cup race course as Alinghi Red Bull Racing launches its two-boat training programme with the AC40s in Barcelona just a few months before the first pre-regatta.

With two AC40s on the water all members of the Driving Group will be able to sail at the same time which is extra motivation for the sailors. "It won't matter which crew members I'm on board with, the aim will always be to sail better than the other boat," added Bryan Mettraux, trimmer.

To help them maximise progress during this important next step on the pathway to the America's Cup the crew will be able to count on the expertise of Sailing Team Advisors Pietro Sibello and Dean Barker, who have recently been joined by Phil Robertson and Jason Waterhouse.

While the two AC40s are excellent training platforms ahead of the regattas, Alinghi Red Bull Racing's focus remains on the AC75 and the testing that will progress the race boat. Meanwhile in Switzerland, the crew of the Alinghi Red Bull Racing TF35 are actively preparing for the Bol d'Or Mirabaud which starts on Saturday. The Societe Nautique de Genève's flagship event will see 330 boats at the start at 10:00.

Champagne Sailing Along The Emerald Isle
The bulk of the fleet in this 14th CIC Normandy Channel Race has now rounded the Tuskar Rock course mark. Alla Grande Pirelli (181) had the edge at the south-east tip of Ireland after being the first to leave the lighthouse in her wake at 08:32 UTC this morning. Hot on her heels were Cafe Joyeux (176) and Credit Mutuel (158). The leaders are now making towards the next course mark at Fastnet, lengthening their stride on a downwind sprint.

A symbolic moment in the event, Tuskar Rock is the lighthouse that marks the south-east tip of Ireland and reaching it after a long climb is a high point in more ways than one for the skippers competing in the great Norman classic. For this edition, it is an Italian flag which has been planted on the summit. Indeed, Ambrogio Beccaria and French team-mate Kevin Bloch were the first to reach this northernmost course mark at 08h 32min 34s UTC this morning. Now they can stow their crampons and their ice axes and get out their toboggans for a long glide along the south coast of Ireland and make for what is perhaps one of the most iconic and renowned lighthouses in the world: Fastnet! Their pursuers clearly didn't delay in following suit as the Class40 Alla Grande Pirelli is now just 1 hour and 30 minutes ahead of the team in 18th position. It's all to play for then and lucky are those who believe they can already announce the victor.

Conditions are optimal for getting to the south-west tip of Ireland: 15 knots of NE'ly breeze, spinnaker deployed, downwind conditions in glorious sunshine and, to crown it all, the skippers can enjoy the marvellous backdrop of Ireland's south coast. Once around Tuskar Rock, the skippers' courses have diverged significantly in the group of leaders. Alla Grande Pirelli (1st at Tuskar) is heading a peloton of 7 boats, which includes the Italo-Spanish pairing of Alberto Bona and Pablo Santurde del Arco on IBSA (4th) and Britons Alister Richardson and Brian Thompson on Tquila (7th), who are favouring a shorter route to the north. Meantime, Cafe Joyeux (2nd into Tuskar) is heading a group of 8 boats that includes the dynamic young German pairing on Think Big – Think Social, Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink (13th), who have opted for a longer route to the south and are clearly hoping to benefit from stronger breeze.

Convexity Wins M32 Newport Season Opener
The curtain on the Midtown Cup is officially open. Don Wilson and his Convexity team have been crowned champions of the first event in the American summer series.

In hauntingly similar fashion to the most recent World Championship, it was a Don vs. Dan standoff in the final race that determined the result.

Sunday's fleet meeting started in remembrance of Hayden Goodrick, who we lost last year. He always said, "remember that we're privileged to be doing what we love." The M32 fleet will forever carry that mentality forward.

Final results
1. Convexity - Don Wilson, USA, 32 points
2. Extreme2 - Dan Cheresh, USA, 36
3. Surge - Ryan McKillen, USA, 43
4. Rated X - Jake Julien, USA, 44
5. Young Bloods - Miles Julien, USA, 45
6. Pursuit - William Ruh, USA, 53
7. Dingbat - Bobby Julien, USA, 55
8. Midtown - Larry Phillips, USA, 55
9. Closing Time - Ian Wooden, USA, 87

SESCA's 10th Antigua Sailing Day Regatta
Members of the St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association are looking forward to the club's '10th Antigua Sailing Day Regatta'. The Regatta, which is the highlight of the club's racing and social calendar, will be held on Sunday, 11 June at Lackford Lake, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

The event was initiated nine years ago as a fun event to celebrate and coincide with Antigua Sailing Week. To SESCA's amazement, the Regatta came to the attention of the Sailing Week Race Committee, via a Google news alert. The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority were so impressed with the initiative that they contacted the club are offered to become the event sponsor.

There will be two races in the morning and one in the afternoon for both adult and junior divisions. The Tourism Authority will once again be providing a steel pan band for lunch time entertainment and prizes of a Caribbean nature.

Spectators are welcome but no dogs are permitted on site as the club is in a nature reserve.

Transpac 2023 and RealSail offer virtual race game
For those unable to physically participate in the race, the Transpacific Yacht Club and RealSail have partnered to offer an interesting online alternate: the RealSail Virtual Transpac 2023 race game.

This virtual game is being made available for participants at no charge and is set up specifically for Transpac to mirror the real race. The game will feature five classes to choose from and three separate starts (on the same days as the Transpac starts). The classes and start dates are:

June 27 -- Cal 40
June 29 - J/125
July 1 -- TP 52, ULDB 70 and MOD 70

Transpac-winning navigator Peter Isler has also been involved with promoting virtual offshore sailing, and says "The time you spend practicing, learning all the RealSail tools and its "buttons" is invaluable. I know, I spent the month of May learning and creating my course in Isler Academy/Marine Weather University to help folks learn about weather routing while playing the RealSail Game."

Isler is going even further: he has teamed up with RealSail to host a final Practice Race on Tuesday June 13 at 1300 PDT. It's on the Transpac Course and will be a dress rehearsal for the real race.
