Biotherm and WindWhisper are the winners on a day of comebacks in Aarhus
The sun was shining on Sunday, as it has been throughout the entire Aarhus stopover, and that meant a building sea breeze would be the order of the day for the In Port Racing programme.

This marked the return of the VO65 class to The Ocean Race, as the fleet comes back to continue racing in the VO65 Sprint.

In the IMOCA class, with the overall race leaderboard so close at the top, the In-Port Race results take on greater importance as a tie-breaking mechanism for The Ocean Race.

It was a day of comebacks, with the return of the VO65 fleet, and Biotherm taking their first win after only arriving in Aarhus yesterday evening.

IMOCA - Aarhus In Port Race - Results
1. Biotherm - 5 pointsc 2. Team Holcim-PRB - 4 points
3. 11th Hour Racing Team - 3 points
4. Team Malizia - 2 points
5. GUYOT environnement - Team Europe - 0 points

* VO65 Race Report
Earlier in the day, it had been the VO65s who took to the race course first, in light winds of 5 to 7 knots as the sea breeze was only just getting established.

As the seconds counted down to the start, initially it was WindWhisper Racing Team (POL) that appeared to have the early momentum although a round-up manoeuvre at the pin end slowed them down. Instead, it was Team JAJO (NED) that got the best start delivering a perfect time-on-distance run into the middle of the start line.

A few minutes later WindWhisper had built their pace once again to pull themselves into the lead.

VO65 Sprint - Aarhus In Port Race - Results
1. WindWhisper Racing - 6 points
2. Team JAJO - 5 points
3. Viva Mexico - 4 points
4. Trifork Mirpuri Racing - 3 points

Narrowing the gap - Royal Huisman
Nilaya Nilaya's innovative Featherlight construction technique is designed to be lightweight, stiff and very competitive in regattas, without compromising the comfort and low noise levels associated with Royal Huisman yachts

The bar was set extremely high for the 47-metre (154ft) Nilaya, Royal Huisman's most recent yacht, which has just been Christened at Het Scheepvaart museum (the National Maritime Museum) in Amsterdam. The last yacht to bear that name was a 34-metre (112ft) full carbon sloop that combined a very high level of performance with ocean cruising capability, striking good looks and a luxurious interior. A game-changer on the superyacht racing circuit, in the 13 years since her launch that boat has won almost every race she entered... and she has done a lot of racing.

It's not surprising, then, that the new Nilaya has a fair amount in common with her namesake in terms of general concept, proportions and aesthetics. She is drawn by the same design team of Reichel/Pugh and Nauta, even more elegant and built on a substantially larger scale, with no compromise made in her racing ambition. However, the design brief also put a greater focus on long-distance ocean cruising, with more emphasis on considerations such as impact resistance and ease of repair in remote parts of the world. Thus, despite some similarities - profile, straight bow, wide transom, twin rudders and so on - the new Nilaya is actually a significantly different beast.

Durlindana 3 victorious maxi in 151 Miglia-Trofeo Cetilar
An especially light 14th edition of the 151 Miglia-Trofeo Cetilar saw the course from Livorno to Punta Ala via the Giraglia rock shortened to 124 miles, while prior to the start crews focussed on lightening their yachts; heavy weather sails were offloaded along with anything extraneous on board, with, in some cases, crew numbers also reduced. Out on the race course competitors enjoyed the warmth of an early summer offshore race and a magnificent sunset on Thursday night but otherwise had to maintain strict concentration in order to hunt out every available zephyr in the otherwise weak fickle conditions.

Coming out on top among the 13 maxi entries in the full fleet of 180 in this light, stressful race was Giancarlo Gianni's much campaigned Durlindana 3, winning by a substantial 1 hour 21 minutes 4 seconds under IRC corrected time. "It is a good boat with a good crew," explained Gianni of the victory of the 25-year-old Carroll Marine 60 cruiser-racer he has owned for the last 10 years. "It was light, but we made good choices at the right moments." While the conditions certainly benefitted the smaller maxis this year, Durlindana 3's result was no fluke: Last year they were third overall in the maxi class.

Next in the International Maxi Association's seven event 2022-23 Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Championship will be the Rolex Giraglia offshore race starting from Saint-Tropez on 14th June, the series concluding with August's Palermo-Montecarlo. -- James Boyd / International Maxi Association

Seahorse Sailor Of The Month
This month's nominees:

Biotherm and WindWhisper are the winners on a day of comebacks in Aarhus Kirsten Neuschafer (RSA)
Well, you can't be surprised. Woman skipper wins open singlehanded round the world race; for the media - sporting andmainstream - it doesn't get any better. Plus it's the first time it ever happened. Outside France only a tiny few got sailing into the public imagination, MacArthur, Knox-Johnston, Goss, Tracy Edwards, Conner, Ainslie (just). And no one before in the age of the Premier League and instant gratification. Sailed well too…

Biotherm and WindWhisper are the winners on a day of comebacks in Aarhus Abhilash Tomy (IND)
And following closely in Kirsten Neuschäfer's wake was one of the heroes of the previous race (the Golden Globe does good heroes). Tomy was rolled and very seriously injured 3,000km from the nearest land in the last GGR, to eventually be found and lifted off his sinking yacht in obvious agony; a rerun of the rescue of the broken Yann Eliès in the 2008 Vendee. Tomy did his nation proud, leaping back on the horse and going out to deliver a fine result. And what a smile...

Biotherm and WindWhisper are the winners on a day of comebacks in Aarhus June's winner:
Rosalin Kuiper (NED)
'Rosie rocks!! Thanks to her, watching sailing is interesting again. Other champs only talk about the sport superficially, but she is honest, skilled and not afraid to actually share her feelings and thoughts' - Joris Westerveld; 'Coolest sailor ever' - Laura Canepuccias; 'She is my pirate of the year' - Jeroen Ten Hove; 'She breathes her love of the sea with every fibre and is so honest to share her happiness about being asked to join this great team - Claudia Neitzel.

A Spectacular Start For The 14th CIC Normandy Channel Race
After a little less than a week on show in the port of Caen in northern France, the crews were more than excited to put pedal to the metal! In teams of two, ultimately some 60 sailors set sail today on the 14th edition of the CIC Normandy Channel Race. It's fair to say that the spectators were treated to a showstopping spectacle for the start with boisterous yet sunny conditions to kick off play. The Race Committee released the fleet of Class40s at 13:15 UTC with the initial course now taking them straight towards the first course mark of the Saint Marcouf Islands.

Breezy on the start line, the Class40s had to contend with a bracing 25 knots of established NNE'ly wind, gusting close to 30 knots. In these bouncy conditions, Race Management was forced to send the crews straight to the Marcouf Islands without the customary inshore coastal course. With daggers drawn from the off, the 30 duos making up this stellar fleet got off to a clean start in heavy seas. It was the Class40 Credit Mutuel (158), which immediately set the pace. Nicely positioned on the race zone, Ian Lipinski and Antoine Carpentier were first across the line enjoying an excellent start. On a reach, the fleet quickly posted great speeds in excess of 20 knots, putting on quite the show for those guests who got the chance to be in the heat of the action out on the water. The two duos from the Figaro circuit, Groupe SNEF (178) and Amarris (182) in particular, quickly managed to show just what their latest generation steeds were capable of, making up ground on the reigning champion. The duo made up of Achille Nebout and Gildas Mahe was the first to round the north cardinal mark of Essarts de Langrune, the intermediate course mark in the sprint for the Norman archipelago of Saint Marcouf.

The Class40s soon devoured the 36 miles between the start line off Ouistreham and a compulsory mark to the west of Saint-Marcouf. As such, the fleet will now begin to set a course across the English Channel, with significant shipping and upwind conditions on the cards for this evening, prior to what will likely be a tricky nocturnal passage through the Solent. -- Sirius Events

Provezza prevail in Scarlino
Ergin Imre's Provezza team won their second title in a row today in Tuscany when they overturned nine points deficit over two final races to clinch the 52 SUPER SERIES Scarlino Sailing Week regatta victory, adding to their success in Saint Tropez, France just three weeks ago.

Led by helm John Cutler, tactician Hamish Pepper, navigator Nacho Postigo and strategist Cole Parada it was the same set of attributes which worked for them in Saint Tropez which made the difference on the Gulf of Follonica. They made good starts, stayed out of trouble and let their good boatspeed work for them.

But maybe most of all they showed the value of a really buoyant, strong team spirit when they bounced back from a 10th in the second race of Friday to go out and win the first race today which they followed up with a fourth to eclipse the 2022 circuit champions Quantum Racing powered by American Magic by a single point.

Realteam Sailing Wins Their Home Event
After two days of good racing, Lake Geneva was in a lighter mode for today's final, with the temperamental southwesterly Joran wind failing to reach more than 5 knots all morning due to an impending storm forming.

When the wind finally reached a relatively stable 10-knots at 15:00 CET, the race committee was able to squeeze in two solid races: the first won by Bertrand Demole's Ylliam XII - Comptoir Immobilier and the second won by Realteam Sailing, putting them on tied points.

In the overall standings, going into the final day, the points for the podium were unusually close, with only one point between first-place Realteam Sailing and second-placed Ylliam XII - Comptoir Immobilier, and ZEN Too only three points off in third.

Filipe Silva wins 2023 Finn World Masters
Filipe Silva, from Portugal, has won the 2023 Finn World Masters at Nea Iraklitsa, Kavala, Greece, after no more races were possible on Friday. Laurent Hay, from France is second with Peter Mosny from Slovakia in third.

While the weather remained hot and humid, low cloud prevented the sea breeze becoming established. The fleet was towed out to the race area and though the race committee kept the fleet afloat as long as practical there was no wind before the 15.00 deadline, so the fleet was towed back to the beach.

At least everyone here has become an expert in towing this week.

Final top ten results
1. Filipe Silva, POR, 13
2. Laurent Hay, FRA, 31
3. Peter Mosny, SVK, 49
4. Antalo Szekely, HUN, 50

A Summer of Solent Sailing for the International Six Metres
The Solent is the place to be for International Six Metre sailing this summer with a full season of topflight regattas on offer, culminating in the Six Metre World Championships, hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron from Thursday 31 August to Friday 8 September.

Teams from across Europe and North America will be joining a strong British contingent taking part in a series of regattas in the central Solent as they prepare for what promises to be a thrilling Worlds.

Over the Whitsun weekend the fleet participated in the Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC) Bank Holiday Regatta from Saturday 27 to Monday 29 May. This event was a special Six Metre Training Regatta with racing on the World Championship course area.

From Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 June there's the RTYC Regatta incorporating the Six Metre British Open Championship, with two trophies available to the winners - The Lion Bowl (Open division) and The Dudley Head Salver (Classic division). Again racing will be on the World Championship course area with post sailing gatherings in Cowes.

From Monday 17 to Friday 21 July there will be special windward leeward racing for the Sixes as part of the renowned British Classic Yacht Club Regatta. The fleet will be based at the event's Cowes Yacht Haven race village, where there will be daily après sailing fun and a gala prize giving dinner. The race officer and his team for this event will the same team running the Worlds event at RYS in September, so a good dry-run for both them and the 6mRs.

Immediately following the BCYC Regatta is the Household Division Yacht Club Regatta on Saturday 22 July, which will be followed by prize giving reception at the Squadron.

Traditionally the Hamble Classics Regatta has been held in September, but this year the date has been brought forward to the weekend of 26 and 27 August

The Last Word
The whole process of science is wildly under-represented in science fiction because it's not easy to write about. There are many facets of science that are almost exactly opposite of dramatic narrative. It's slow, tedious, inconclusive, it's hard to tell good guys from bad guys - it's everything that a normal hour of Star Trek is not. -- Kim Stanley Robinson
