Flying French Find Golden Finish To Hyeres Medal Races
France topped the national medal table after foiling to three golds on the last day of the 54th Semaine Olympique Française de Hyères - TPM. There were thrillers across the fleet 8-10 knots easterlies that grew and filled in as the day went on. The medals were spread through the nations with France winning three golds and Spain and Britain all winning two of the ten Olympic classes.

The battle between nations was more than matched by the intense battle within each country as the sailors aim to claim the single national place in each fleet for the Olympics Games. In the Ilca 7 that national excellence, success and rivalry was condensed onto the podium with Elliot Hanson overturning the overnight lead of compatriot and rival Michael Beckett.

Three new ORC European Champions
Ta'Xbiex, Malta: The new ORC European champions in each class sailed well all week, but their overall victories were not guaranteed when they left the dock this morning. The compression of points in the standings after yesterday's non-discardable light-air Coastal Race and the possibility that if the wind filled to be stronger and more stable they might have had to race twice today introduced many possible scenarios that would threaten any lead in the standings.

Yet this did not happen for two of the newly crowned champions. Karl Kwok's (HKG) TP 52 BEAU GESTE won the ORC World Championship twice - in 2018 in The Hague and last year in Porto Cervo, and with all bullets on their scoreline seemed assured of winning their first ORC European Class A crown...until yesterday's Coastal race when they finished well down the ranks in 7th place and their nearest rival - Claudio Terrieri's (ITA) Swan 45 BLUE SKY - won the race, compressing their lead into a two-point margin. Worse yet, BLUE SKY had a 4th pla

Back in the Groove - Axxess Marine Y2K Race Day
Antigua: The second day of racing at Antigua Sailing Week was blessed with fabulous sailing conditions. The trade winds were in, gusting up to 17 knots from the east. With over a metre of ocean swell and an air temperature in the high twenties centigrade, it was a marvellous day to be out racing at the Caribbean's most famous regatta.

Multiple races were held for all classes, with the CSA Racing boats off Rendezvous Bay. Racing along the stunning South Coast of Antigua, land effects and local knowledge came into play. The Bareboat and Club Classes started off Windward Beach, stretching their legs offshore on long windward leeward courses in the ocean swell. On Axxess Marine Y2K Race Day, two new classes were introduced to Antigua Sailing Week. The RS Elite Class raced off Windward Beach along with the Wingfoil Class competing in the inaugural Antiguan Wingfoil Championship.

This is the 2nd year that Axxess Marine has generously supported the Y2K program. Their commitment to the development of youth sailing, will hopefully produce future gatekeepers of the local yachting industry. -- Louay Habib

Swan Croatia Challenge
The Swan Croatia Challenge launched the ClubSwan Racing season in sensational style this week with a range of wind and weather conditions delivering exceptional racing for the 10-strong fleet of one design ClubSwan 36s.

Based at the ACI marina in the historic and atmospheric Croatian port of Split, the race teams were first greeted with a classic 'Bora' wind - a strong North-Easterly breeze - on the Adriatic Sea, which soon dropped to provide ideal race conditions, which returned again on the second day.

By contrast, the penultimate day of the first regatta of The Nations League 2023 produced a slight breeze requiring the crews to showcase their light wind racing skills and tactical know-how. A lack of wind on the final day on Saturday curtailed further racing.

However, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio's G Spot had already demonstrated she is one of the boats to beat this season, with the Monaco-flagged ClubSwan 36 taking victory in all five races held.

That said, Edoardo Ferragamo's Cuordileone (ITA), Edoardo and Vanni Pavesio's Fra Martina (ITA), Nikolai P. Burkart's Goddess (GER), Lorenzo Mondo's Farstar (ITA), Haakon Lorentzen's Mamao (BRA) and Richard Thompson's Black Seal (GGY) had all claimed at least one podium finish during the regatta, leaving two of the top-three spots up for grabs all the way to the final race.

The ClubSwan 36 racers will gather again next month for the Swan Sardinia Challenge - May 16-20 - when they will be joined by two more of the Swan One Design family, the ClubSwan 50 and ClubSwan 42 classes.

Racing on the Edge
Today the final episode for Season 3 of SailGP's fly-on-the-wall docuseries, Racing on the Edge, is released. Called 'The Deal Maker' it looks at the intriguing dynamics in the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team as it prepares to try and take the final spot in the Mubadala Season 3 Grand Final in San Francisco. Led and owned by the most decorated Olympic sailor of all time, Sir Ben Ainslie, the team has failed to win an event all season yet still sits just outside the all-important top 3 on the Season 3 leaderboard. It will battle with Quentin Delapierre's plucky France team - who have surprised the fleet to win two events this season - for the final season decider spot.

Pintia celebrate in Le Havre
The overall winner of the RORC Cervantes Trophy Race after IRC time correction was Gilles Fournier & Corinne Migraine's J/133 Pintia (FRA) from the Societe des Regates du Havre. This was the fourth occasion that the French team has won the impressive Cervantes Trophy.

88 boats started the Royal Ocean Racing Club's Cervantes Trophy Race from the RYS Line Cowes with 86 teams completing the race to Le Havre. Janet Grosvenor was the Race Officer for the start in Cowes and reported that after a 30 minute delay, requested by ABP Southampton for a large cargo ship, the fleet got clear away. The pin end was favourite in a light easterly to north easterly breeze.

The De Graaf family racing Ker 43 Baraka GP (NED) took line honours for the race, won IRC Zero and was second overall. Third overall was Lawrence Herbert's J/133 Corazon (FRA).
