Boris Herrmann's Team Malizia wins Leg 3 of The Ocean Race
At 05:20:28 UTC / 02:20:28 local time in Brazil, Team Malizia glided across the finish line off Ocean Live Park in Itajai to win leg 3 of The Ocean Race, collecting 5 points in the process.

The win comes on the 35th day of racing and after 14,714 nautical miles of intense, close-quarters racing.

On the last day of the leg and into the final night at sea Team Malizia sailed fast and confident towards the finishing line, extending its lead to more than 80 miles and taking an historic win.

On Friday night, the leading pair experienced some of the toughest conditions of the leg, with winds gusts near 50 knots and a violent sea state. Team Holcim-PRB had trouble with the autopilot leading to a crash gybe and damage to their mainsail. After racing in lockstep with Malizia for days towards what was gearing up to be a photo finish, Escoffier and the Holcim-PRB crew dropped back by 50 miles in a matter of hours and the leg win would go to Malizia.

For Escoffier, the points gained on this leg solidify his position at the top of the leaderboard.

Two boats are still at sea and racing up the Atlantic towards Itajai. 11th Hour Racing Team is now 525 miles away while Biotherm has 650 miles to go. Their ETAs stretch into Wednesday.

Seventy boats and five days of outstanding racing in champagne BVI conditions concluded on Sunday with a fabulous firework display presented by the BVI Government in celebration of the successful conclusion of the 50th Anniversary of the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival. Hundreds of competitors, their families, and friends as well as many from the local community enjoyed the fabulous hospitality shown by long-time host sponsor Nanny Cay Resort and Marina.

In CSA 1 Racing, first place went to Dr. Laura Schlessinger from California, USA, sailing on the Lombard 46 Pata Negra.

Long-time BVI Spring Regatta competitor Peter Corr from St Thomas, USVI, took first in CSA Racing 2 on Blitz, his Summit 40.

Every year the Regatta presents the Guy Eldridge Spirit of Enthusiasm Award to an individual or individuals who shine in the spirit of the sport and who has stepped out and gone beyond. This year the award was presented to Richard Wooldridge and Steve Davis, for their persistence, hard work and commitment to journey rebuilding the Kelsall 47 Triple Jack. Half a century at the cutting edge - Baltic Yachts
Baltic Yachts Launched in 2022, the Baltic 68 Pink Gin Verde might point the way to the future. Built in hybrid (50% flax) fibre, this eco-conscious 'Cafe Racer' performed well at Les Voiles de St-Tropez. Its most notable feature, though, is what's missing - not just the runners, there's no backstay.

Baltic Yachts was founded with a mission to make sailing boats faster, stiffer, lighter and better. They've pursued that original goal relentlessly ever since

Fifty years ago in Finland five young men shared a controversial idea and an ambitious plan. They quit their jobs at Nautor and set out to create a new style of offshore cruiserracer - lighter, stiffer and faster than almost anything else on the market.

'We just got together one day and the idea came up,' says Per-Goran "PG" Johansson, one of the five founding fathers of Baltic Yachts back then and still one of its directors today. 'We were not alone thinking "light is better" but most boatyards and naval architects favoured heavier designs. Some of our competitors published studies for marketing purposes arguing that heavy was better. One of their claims was "heavy does not stop in waves due to the inertia of the mass". Another was "the client gets more kilos for his money". We remained convinced and carried on with our lightweight, hi-tech way.'

Trofeo Princesa Sofia
The 52 Trofeo Princesa Sofia for racer-cruisers and keelboats concluded today in winds of more than 25 knots in the bay of Palma, conditions which prevented the Dragons and Int 6 Metres classes from sailing.

Sal (J/80), Patakin (J/70), Stella (6 Metros), Mr. Nova (Dragon), Santina (ORC 1-3), Abracadabra (ORC 4-5) and Kyo V (A2) are the champions of the 52 Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar for racer-cruisers and keelboats. Held from the 31st of March to the 2nd of April at the Real Club Náutico de Palma, it was attended by nearly 60 teams representing ten nationalities.

The strong northwesterly wind was the biggest challenge for the third and last day of competition with gusts of more than 25 knots scudding across the bay of Palma.

The 6 Metre and Dragon classes were unable to sail, safety first being chosen ahead of putting crews and boats at any risk. The J/70 and J/80s completed three windward/leeward races and the racer cruisers completed a coastal course.

The 52 Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar goes into Olympic mode from tomorrow: 984 teams and 1,269 sailors of 66 nationalities will compete for glory in ten categories until next Saturday, 8th April.

RORC Easter Challenge - Update
For over 20 years, the Royal Ocean Racing Club has held a training regatta over the Easter Weekend. World Sailing Rules on outside assistance are relaxed, so for no additional cost to the teams, hand-picked coaches can provide pin-point assistance to get crews of any level up to speed. Three days of racing are organised in The Solent from Easter Friday to Easter Sunday. As with all RORC racing the RORC Cowes Clubhouse is open for all competitors. Entries are still coming in and over 200 sailors are expected for the RORC Easter Challenge.

After racing, every day, a warm reception awaits at the RORC Cowes Clubhouse with video debriefs from the RORC Coach Team supported by North Sails. The famous Clubhouse Bar is a hive of activity and the RORC Clubhouse kitchen will be offering a simple and unique Regatta Crew Buffet.

Racing will be in IRC Rated Classes for Grand Prix racers, pocket rocket Cape 31s and HP30 Classes, plus a huge range of performance racer-cruisers. While the regatta attracts some professional teams, the vast majority are passionate corinthian crews looking to sharpen their skills. The RORC Easter Challenge has the traditional prizes of Easter Eggs but the real winners are all the sailors, improving every aspect of yacht racing ability at a safe and friendly regatta.

M32 Miami Winter Series
Jake Julien and his Rated X team are the big winners - not just the Miami Winter Series Event No.4 but also the overall Miami Winter Series and its coveted rooster trophy. Unstoppable! New to the fleet last year, the young team has been building and growing all season long. What a smokin' hot streak: back-to-back event wins, the Friday Cup event win, the Friday Cup series win - and, of course, the best-in-show rooster trophy for the Winter Series. Consistency proved key for Julien and his team of Keith Swinton, Rhys Mara, Julius Hallstrom, and Jeff McCooey supported by Morgan Reeser, Kyle Kandt, and Franny Schulte.

This weekend saw a busy Biscayne Bay with 11 M32s charging hard for 3-5 races a day, each with a 17-minute race target time.

Next up, the fleet goes to Lake Garda, Italy and Newport, Rhode Island, USA for four events each. It all leads up to the World Championship in Newport this fall for the biggest event of the year.

Ride along with Craig Mitchell, chief umpire for the M32 class (former WMRT Tour Directpr and spiritual leader, America's Cup umpire, World Sailing Events Manager, one of the best guys in the industry... )

Allstate Sugar Bowl 2023 Viper World Championships
New Orleans: The Allstate Sugar Bowl Viper 640 World Championship experienced the extremes of Lake Pontchartrain this week, when it started Monday with no wind and no racing, then finished Friday with too much wind that canceled races after the first one.

Benvenutti with his crew Christopher Alexander and Andrew Eagan never lost first place throughout the regatta, although they were tied with Boston after the second day of racing. Overall, Benvenutti took five firsts out of the ten races sailed.
