Pyewacket 70 Claims Monohull Line Honours in RORC Caribbean 600
Roy P. Disney's Pyewacket 70 (USA) has won Monohull Line Honours in the 2023 RORC Caribbean 600 with a time of 42 hours 45 mins 06 secs, becoming the fastest boat in the Disney dynasty and the first to take this title in the event.

The latest Pyewacket 70 is a turbo-charged Volvo 70 that features a taller mast, lighter hull, and deeper keel than the original box-rule. Two generations of the Disney family have previously raced under the Pyewacket name, which was inspired by the witch's cat in the film Bell, Book and Candle. -- Louay Habib

Carib 600 Monohull Honours

MOD70 Zoulou (FRA) wins RORC Caribbean 600 Multihull Line Honours
After sailing for more than 30 hours and reaching speeds of nearly 40 knots, the MOD70 Zoulou skippered by Erik Maris from France secured the Multihull Line Honours victory in the 2023 RORC Caribbean 600 race by a mere 11 seconds. Zoulou finished the 600-mile course in just under 31 hours, while Giovanni Soldini's Maserati Multi70 (ITA) came in second place, just like they did the previous year, after yet another photo-finish. Zoulou's crew consisted of Erik Maris, Ned Collier Wakefield, Thierry Fouchier, Loick Peyron, Bruno Jeanjean, Bruno Mourniac, and Thomas Le Breton.

Despite leading until midnight on the first day, Zoulou lost to Maserati when the latter was fast on their foils heading down to Guadeloupe. However, Maserati encountered a setback on the penultimate leg when they got lost under a cloud, just as Zoulou had experienced during the RORC Transatlantic Race. The two boats battled it out and exchanged leads many times on the leg to Redonda, making for an exhilarating race. The last leg was particularly challenging, as the wind speed and direction were unpredictable, but Zoulou eventually passed Maserati to win the race.

Close racing abounds in the RORC Caribbean 600
With line honours decided for both Multihull and Monohull boats in the RORC Caribbean 600, the focus turns onto the Class Winners and the ultimate prize; the Overall Win under IRC for the RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy. Forty one boats are still racing under IRC and seven under MOCRA. Out in the combat zone, with the overall winner nowhere near decided, competition is fierce for Class and IRC Overall Honours.

IRC Super Zero
Pyewacket 70 (USA) is 'in the clubhouse' and has won IRC Super Zero and leads the IRC fleet after time correction for the overall win. I Love Poland (POL), skippered by Grzegorz Baranowski finished the race in under 48 hours to claim second place in IRC Super Zero. Wind Whisper (POL) skippered by Joca Signorini was the first VO65 to finish the race. In an elapsed time of just under 50 hours, after IRC time correction, Wind Whisper completes the IRC Super Zero podium.

MOCRA
Gunboat 68 Tosca (USA) finished the race in the morning of day three to set the benchmark for the MOCRA Class. Giovanni Soldini's Maserati Multi70 (ITA) is second after time correction. MOD70 Zoulou (FRA), sailed by Erik Maris is currently third after MOCRA time correction, however Rob Merwin's Gunboat 60 Cui Bono (USA) was passing Redonda at 14:00 AST and was in with a chance of snatching a podium finish.

IRC Zero
The leading boats in IRC Zero are expected to make the finish at around sunset tonight; Wednesday 22 February. Kate & Jim Murray's Pac52 Callisto (USA) was the first in class to round Redonda. Hot on Callisto's heels was Botin 56 Black Pearl (GER), skippered by Stefan Jentzsch, which rounded just 8 minutes later. RORC Vice Commodore Eric de Turckheim racing NMD54 Teasing Machine (FRA) was 15 minutes behind Callisto. After IRC time correction, Teasing Machine was not only leading IRC Zero but also IRC Overall. Callisto was second in IRC Zero and Frederic Puzin's Ker 46 Daguet 3 - Corum (FRA) was ranked third. -- http://caribbean600.rorc.org

Old head young shoulders - Doyle Sails
Doyle Sails There is no let up in the queue of top international sailing talent lining up to join the literally 'fizzing' performance team at Doyle Sails... America's Cup, SailGP and Volvo veteran Kyle Langford is just the latest

A brief exchange during a training session aboard the supermaxi Comanche ahead of the 2019 Sydney Hobart race provided Doyle Sails with one of those rare sparks that add impetus to company strengths and change individual career paths. It illustrates Doyle's drive to build a formidable talent pool of top sailors to develop, refine and test new technologies while helping customers sail faster towards achieving their goals.

The Comanche moment came in one of those periods when the boat is settled in its groove, the breeze is steady and the crew, perched along the rail, can briefly catch their breath.

Tracy Edwards' Maiden Confirmed for Ocean Globe Race
Tracy Edwards MBE and DP World, title sponsor of The Maiden Factor World Tour, have announced that the iconic yacht Maiden and her all-female crew will enter the 2023 Ocean Global Race.

The news confirms the commitment Edwards made in 2019 when the event was announced as a tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of the first Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973.

Maiden will take a break from her world tour, which began in September 2021, to take part in the race which sets out from a European port on 10 September, just 200 days away.

Edwards and crew have covered nearly 30,000 nautical miles visiting 20 destinations and engaging with schools, charities and organisations as part of her mission to educate, empower and elevate girls, increasing their life and career choices and also raising money to fund girls' educational projects around the world.

In 1989 Edwards made history as the skipper of the first ever all-female crew - among them Irish sailor Angela Farrell - to enter the Whitbread Round the World Race, now The Ocean Race. Their achievement is celebrated in the 2019 documentary Maiden.

Endeavour Homes 2023 Flying Fifteen World Championships
Fremantle, Western Australia: The host organiser of the 2023 Flying Fifteen World Championship is the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club which is located on the Swan River where most of the dinghy / keelboat racing takes place, however the attraction of sailing on the Indian Ocean waters off Fremantle, (about 3 km down stream from the RFBYC) is too much to ignore for organisers.

'Clear turquoise waters, good sea breezes and downwind surfing waves'

The infamous 'Fremantle Doctor' sea breeze blows regularly from lunchtime onwards throughout most of the summer months, easing slightly in late summer.

"The March timetable has been chosen as the weather conditions are generally more forgiving at this time of year. The infamous 'Fremantle Doctor' strong sea breezes have usually weakened" say the organisers

The event host is the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club but the regatta will be sailed out of Fremantle Sailing Club on the pristine waters of Owen Anchorage in the Indian Ocean off Fremantle. The facilities at Fremantle Sailing Club are world class and Fremantle is renowned throughout the world for its unique sailing conditions.

Incredibly 77 entries are already on their way to sailing paradise. This figure would not have been possible without the funding provided by key sponsors including Endeavour Homes and the transport and logistics provided by the MSC group.

Flying Fifteens are coming from as far away as South Africa, the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, New Zealand and all over Australia. Whilst the overseas boats are being shipped to Fremantle, it takes a good three days to tow a F15 from Queensland to West Australia, a similar distance as New York to San Francisco or London to Istanbul! -- Jonny Fullerton

Regatta Dates:
Mar 9 - 12 - Registration & Measurement
Mar 12 - Invitational Race
Mar 13 - 16 - Australian Championship

Sailing World on Water Highlights
Highlights of what happened globally in the sport of sailing in the last 7 days. Well the five Imocas in the Ocean Race all arrived at Cape Town together. The lottery was won by Kevin Escoffier of HolcimPRB. flollowed by Biotherm and 11th Hour Racing. Just missing the podium were Team Malizia and finally GUYOT entertainment Team Europe. It prove that the boats are close and anyone can win.

Big wind and huge, steep swell set a massive physical challenge for the three Olympic fleets on day two of the Lanzarote International Regatta in the Canary Islands. British skiff sailors surfed to the top of the rankings in the two skiff classes.

On Wednesday the team ventured out of the harbour to tow-test the AC 40 and were greeted by sunny, glassy, early Spring conditions - ideal for running through the ride-heights, foil cants and systems controls. Numerous flight modes and foil arm pitches were tested as described below in the on-water recon team's notes and the hope is that the team will be sailing the first AC 40 in Barcelona before the weekend.

Three days of racing in varied conditions across a combination of inshore races, a passage race and finally three offshore windward/leeward races in high winds, tested all in the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club's ORC New South Wales Championship. Defending Division 1 champion Bush-ranger, owned by Gerry Hatton, scored victory in five of the six races and placed second in the other. Behind Bush-ranger, the battle raged for the minor placings as Keiran Mulcahy's King 40, Soozal fought to stay ahead of Bob Cox's DK 46, Nine Dragons.
