44Cup Oman 2022 - Day 1
After a light World Championship back in October in Portorož, Slovenia, the nine teams competing today off Muscat's Al Mouj Marina at the 44Cup Oman were well dialled in for the opening day of the 2022 44Cup's grand finale. However today it was not the turn of Nico Poons' Charisma, with her newly installed season leader's golden wheels, to come out on top, nor past 44Cup season winners and World Champions Chris Bake's Team Aqua but Team Nika, which, across today's three races, posted a nearly immaculate 2-1-2. And this was despite having a new tactician.

With Team Nika's regular tactician Francesco Bruni tied up with the Italian challenger for the America's Cup, his shoes are being filled by British two time 470 World Champion turned pro tactician Nic Asher. According to Asher the secret today was down to "very good communication. We had a lot of gear changing and it was quite tough out there. So it was our communication and we were fast - that was the secret".

44Cup Oman Results:
(After 3 races)

1. Team Nika 2 1 2 - 5 points
2. Charisma 3 2 6 - 11
3. Team Aqua 1 4 7 - 12
4. Aleph Racing 6 6 1 - 13
5. Artemis Racing 9 3 3 - 15
6. Black Star Sailing Team 4 9 5 - 18
7. Ceeref powered by Hrastnik 1860 7 7 4 - 18
8. Peninsula Racing 5 5 8 - 25
9. Team Asyad Shipping 8 8 9 - 25

Inaugural IRC Middle East Championship
The inaugural AGMC IRC Middle East Championship, organised by the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will be held from 17-18 December 2022

IRC Rating is strong in the Middle East with the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) supporting the rating system and attracting competitors from across the region, including the popular annual Dubai to Muscat Race. Through this continued development and recognising their support DOSC have been awarded the inaugural IRC Middle East Championship.

Over 40 boats are expected for the AGMC IRC Middle East Championship organised by the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club from 17-18 December 2022. Four IRC Classes are expected with three IRC Racing Classes and an IRC Cruiser Class.

Five races are scheduled over two days with three inshore races on December 17th followed by an inshore race and a double point scoring Coastal Race on December 18th.

DOSC was established in 1974 through the generosity of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum, who granted land along the coastline for the purpose of sailing. The impressive DOSC facility is in Central Dubai with a 150-berth marina on the Arabian Gulf. The renowned DOSC Clubhouse Restaurant is open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. An impressive turnout is expected from members of the host club. However, the AGMC IRC Middle East Championship is an open event, all teams are invited to contact DOSC for details.

Wight Vodka Best Sailor's Bar in the World
Wight Vodka In this issue we celebrate our 2018 winner, whose signature cocktail was a huge hit among event attendees (in particular some of our favorite journalists).... Cloggy's of Falmouth, Antigua.

One of the best bars in the Caribbean, with beautiful cheerful staff and owners, there wide range of drinks catalog makes it a sailors destination...imagine you sailing across the water for months and you finally get to antigua walk into Cloggys and get greeted with a cold beverage of your choice...by far the best bar.

The service, the food and most of all; the atmosphere! From morning until late at night .. the view and the never boring ambience... it's just great! It's the place to be!

Ton and Vanessa Smit are the husband and wife team that run Cloggys in Falmouth, Antigua. The couple have run Cloggys for nearly 2 decades. They have a wonderful and loyal staff but Ton and Vanessa are proper hands-on owners, and always welcome old friends and new ones with a smile. It is more than just a fantastic restaurant and vibrant bar, it is a huge part of the sailing community in Antigua, and dozens of beautifully decorated clogs on the restaurant walls are gifted by raceboats, superyachts and classic yachts that visit Cloggys. Originally Ton and Vanessa ran a day cafe in the well known nightclub Abracadabra, then moved to the Antigua Yacht Club.

Cloggy's is well known for their signature drink... The Cloggy's Delight:

Wight Vodka
Elderflower liqueur
Prosecco
Fresh mint
Raspberries
And a dash of soda water

The human factor - Doyle Sails
Doyle Sails It is no longer enough for an ambitious sailmaker to fill its ranks with famous names - to rule the world these days they have to be current stars of the sport. Something Doyle Sails 'recruiters' are very aware of...

In parallel with a continuous process of technological development, Doyle Sails has made a huge human investment in sailing expertise and achievement which in turn has earned a seat at the top table when major new projects are planned.

This reflects a determined strategy to develop and produce top quality products while bringing top quality intelligence and input to the entire programme, from conception to design to performance on the water, based on personal experience at the highest levels of the sport.

'The calibre of people wearing the Doyle brand has never been stronger and we have been steadily growing that over the past five or six years and will continue to do so moving forward,' says Doyle Sails CEO Mike Sanderson. This human investment lies at the heart of the company's culture and is embodied in its "By Sailors for Sailors" credo. A sample poll of a dozen Doyle people across lofts around the world and spanning a wide age range supports the claim.

Eric: A Novel "Eric is an extremely bright young man whose curiosity leads him to explore a world previously unknown to him or his family. We follow him from boyhood through to manhood. He's the Philly Kid, breaking from his traditional background to find within himself a competitiveness he didn't know existed. He was the "natural" in singlehanded dinghy racing, progressing through local, regional, and national championships. But would his passion, focus, and drive to be the best in the world be derailed by outside distractions?"

2023 ORC Mediterranean Championship now open for entries
Napoli, Italy: Organizers from the Circolo Remo e Vela Italia are pleased to announce that entries are now open for the 2023 ORC Mediterranean Championship, run also as the Campionato Nazionale del Medio e Basso Tirreno (CNT). Racing dates for the event are 19-21 May 2023 and are within the Tre Golfi Sailing Week supported by ROLEX.

Four classes will be organized to compete in the ORC Mediterranean Championship/CNT, with these class splits:

Class A: 16.400 > CDL > 11.610
Class B: 11.610 > CDL > 9.780
Class C: 9.780 > CDL > 8.550
Class D: 8.550 > CDL

Final class splits will be amended based on 2023 CDL limits as defined by ORC. A total of five inshore windward/leeward races are planned, with course areas to be positioned between Sorrento and Capri.

Due to the limited number of moorings available in the Piano di Sorrento Marina (shown above), the maximum number of entries amongst all classes is 70.

The first 70 entries made by the pre-registration deadline of 2400 on 15 March will be accepted. Based on the availability of additional berths, the Organizing Authority may allow registrations beyond this limit. If more than 70 yachts are pre-registered at the Registration Deadline, final entries will be accepted at the OA discretion
