Landspeed Project: A Positive Progression To 200 Km/H
After what has seemed like endless weather delays over the past couple of months, finally Horonuku got to stretch its legs on a dry Lake Gairdner with breeze that is edging closer into the required zone for world record attempts.

The promising weather forecast coupled with reports of a dry lake was enough for the Landspeed team to remobilise within days and get back to the lake to re-rig Horonuku in searing 40-degree temperatures in preparation for the expected 20+ knot SW front on Sunday evening.

It was the most positive session for the Land speed team so far, not yet about timing or clocking official records but identifying obvious elements that can be improved to increase performance to be able to achieve the best speeds possible.

The constant search of performance gains continues as will the patience required for the optimal wind conditions that will provide the opportunity for an attempt at an 'official' world record run for the team. But for Ashby, he can take initial comfort that his new unchartered speeds in Horonuku come without too much surprise. "It was exactly as I have been picturing it in my head and how I expected it to be at those speeds. There is plenty going on but am 100% comfortable to keep hanging on and sending it until it taps out. It is bloody awesome."

But not nearly as awesome as it might be if Ashby can become the fastest person ever in a wind powered craft.

2023 ORC Double Handed Europeans now open for entries
Helsingor, Denmark: The Helsingor Sailing Club is pleased to announce that the registration and entry process for the 2023 ORC DH European Championship is now open. The event will take place from 10-17 June 2023 and is being held under the authority of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC), the Danish Sailing Association along with Helsingor Sailing Club.

The venue is located at Helsingor Marina in the beautiful town of Helsingor with the Unesco Heritage Kronborg Castle (shown in photo above) as the closest neighbor. The club has existed for almost 90 years, currently has more than 500 members, and has an ambition of further developing the club with dedicated activities in the areas of a youth sailing, a general Sailing School and sailing activities focused on both women and aging sailors.

Since 1947 Helsingor Sailing Club has hosted the Sjælland Rundt Race. While starting small just after World War II, the race grew to more than 2000 boats in the early eighties where every Danish sailor wanted to try out what has been known locally as the "Marathon of the Sea."

The race is still developing and this year will host activities stretching over a full week that include One-Design J70 racing, the traditional Sjælland Rundt Race and the ORC DH European Championship.

The ORC DH European Championship is open to any boat with a valid ORC DH International certificate with a 2022 APH value of between 420.0 to 630.0 s/NM – this will be adjusted for 2023 certificates. 2023 European ORC DH Champion titles and top three awards will be given in three classes, with CDL limits establishing these classes given final definition once the 2023 ORC VPP is finalized. Top three all-amateur Corinthian prizes will also be awarded in each class.

All information regarding course and other details is given in the Notice of Race, available at the event's documents page on Manage2Sail.

Other information is on the event's website at sjaellandrundt.dk/orc-dh

Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series
Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series Act 2: December 2022 - March 2023
In line with the YCM's sailing policy, having been initiated in the Melges 20 class in 2013 at the instigation of Valentin Zavadnikov, then the J/70s, the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series is a monthly programme of regattas and training weekends for one-design boats from December to March.

It has proved a very successful format with more than 350 sailors coming from across Europe to set up their winter training base in the Principality to prepare for the upcoming season's big meetings.

For Monegasque teams, this Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series is their qualifier for the J/70 World Championship being organised for the first time by YCM in partnership with FxPro.

Go behind the scenes at the America's Cup with the latest episode of the World Sailing Show
The latest episode of the World Sailing show goes behind the scenes to look at the first weeks of testing ahead of the 2024 America's Cup in Barcelona. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli's LEQ12 test boat is currently in Cagliari as they get used to the systems and controls while familiarising themselves with tactical moves to prepare for the main event.

There is a special look at this year's Rolex Middle Sea Race and a rundown of recent events including the 470 Worlds, 52 Super Series, Route du Rhum, Women's Match Racing Tour, and Yacht Racing Forum in Malta.

There is also an in-depth look at the GKA Kite World Tour in Taiba, Brazil, where 2022 Freestyle World Champions were crowned and Frenchman Charles Brodel made history by landing the first contra loop front roll board off and back roll kite loop board-offs on a hydrofoil in a competition.

Elsewhere in the show, we look at the only team - so far - to lift the SailGP trophy, newly-crowned World Sailing Team of the Year, Team Australia SailGP skippered by two-time Rolex World Sailor of the Year Tom Slingsby as their quest for a third consecutive title continues.

What kept you all? - Persico
Persico While others rave about the 'new' crossover between automotive and America's Cup technology, one of Italy's most respected engineering institutions has been hard at it for years. The ClubSwan80 'My Song' the latest beneficiary of that hard won experience...

To the majority of us, if you ask the question "where would you find the most refined carbon fibre structures?", the answer would probably be motorsport or aerospace applications. However, long before any of these sectors embraced composite structures fully, the marine industry had found a home for the growing choices of materials and was pushing the boundaries. Persico Marine stepped into the field once the use of composites was well established and continues to push these boundaries. Not only in the marine field, but anywhere the benefits of a precisely assembled and consistently manufactured solution is needed and where tolerances are tight and failure is not an option.

To many, the idea of a boatbuilding facility cradled in the heart of the foot hills of the Alps, 200 kilometres from the nearest place to launch a yacht (excluding the alpine lakes!) seems crazy. But Persico Marine remains closely tied to the rest of the Persico Group, be that automotive, aerospace, rotomoulding, or architectural, the group grows and learns together. This also allows cross-pollination within the group and an exchange of ideas.
