France Wins Cadiz SailGP
Cadiz- Andalucia, Spain: In the closest-ever finish to a SailGP event, Quentin Delapierre led the France SailGP Team to a stunning victory by just three seconds over Jimmy Spithill's U.S. team to claim the teams first event win in SailGP. The event win in Andalucía - Cádiz sees the French team rocket into the all-important top three of the championship standings after six events of Season 3.

The resurgence of Spithill's team continued as it made a second straight final and couldn't have been closer to a second straight event win. Tom Slingsby's team struggled in the final to finish a distant third, but it was an improved weekend from the Australians who had missed the last two event finals. The team has also stretched its lead over New Zealand in the season standings to four points.

On an eye-catching but heartbreaking day for the Canadian team, Phil Robertson won both of the day's races, but it wasn't enough to overcome a poor day one effort and the newcomers missed the final by one point.

Final results at Cadiz
1. France, 10 points
2. United States, 9
3. Australia, 8
4. Canada, 7
5. Great Britain, 6
6. New Zealand, 5
7. Spain, 4

New Broom - Wessex Resins
Wessex Resins Not forgetting that the old one was pretty good!

There is plenty to shout about in the racing world, particularly for those who are involved at the cutting edge. Pro-Set has a long list of clients that are right in the thick of it, building boats from the blisteringly quick to the jaw droppingly beautiful. Among them is Maguire Boats, a small builder in a niche market based on the UK's south coast that has enjoyed an impressive run of success and has played a huge part in shaping the high-performance world.

The company is famous for its International Moths, in particular its Exocet. In almost 10 years it has built 170 boats and won pretty much everything in the Moth world. But many believe that the influence of the Exocet was down to far more than simply straight line and argue instead that it redefined this popular foiling class while raising the bar among the fleet. And a look at their route to success over the last decade makes it easy to see why.

IC37 North American Championship

IC37 North American Championship A year of hard work - three winter series regattas in Fort Lauderdale and a full summer of sailing in Newport—paid off for Peter McClennen's Gamecock team (above) as they blitzed a competitive 20-boat fleet to win the 2022 IC37 North American Championship. The team was so dominant through the first six races of the regatta it was able to enjoy a leisurely cruise to the dock while the remaining 19 boats sailed the final race to decide the minor places. Peter Wagner's Skeleton Key finished second while Steve Liebel's New Wave took third.

The IC37 North American Championship was hosted by the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I., from September 23 to 25. The regatta was the final event of the summer 2022 IC37 regatta calendar and featured 20 Corinthian teams battling for top honors over eight races on Rhode Island Sound and Narragansett Bay.

The North American championship was the final event of the 2022 IC37 Summer Series. While Gamecock was the best team on the water today, the season championship went to Steve Liebel's New Wave.

A total of 15 boats qualified for the season championship, a strong indication of the strength of the class.

Aspire defends French Open title at Regates Royales in Cannes
Aspire (POL 17, Mateusz Kusznierewicz, Przemysław Gacek, Flavio Marazzi) has retained 5.5 Metre French Open title they won in 2021 after the final two races were sailed on Friday at the Regates Royales in Cannes.

New Moon III (BAH 25, Mark Holowesko, Christoph Burger, Peter Vlasov) finished second while Otto (NOR 68, Bent Christian Wilhelmsen, Herve Cunningham, Lasse Berthelsen) finished third. Both are also former winners here, but the Polish team was unmatched this year, with great speed, manoeuvres, and almost flawless tactics.

The 5.5 Metre Class hopes to return to Cannes again in 2024. Unfortunately in 2023, the Regates Royales clashes with the 5.5 Metre Scandinavian Gold Cup and World Championship in Porto Cervo, Sardinia.

Meanwhile, the 2022 5.5 Metre international circuit concludes in two weeks' time at the Herbstpreis on the Thunersee in Switzerland.

Hobie 16 Worlds: Semis are underway!
Day 1 Semi-finals racing - We had to wait for the wind, but it came. Another long onshore postponement waiting for the wind to settle and fill. Racing got underway at 2:00pm with 8-13 knots of wind from the NE, a direction we haven't seen yet.

Due to the late start only two races were completed today over two sessions with sailors swapping boats in between. The conditions were a bit milder today with shifts and ups and down in the pressure. Teams that stayed in the breeze did well, but it was easy to find yourself in the back.

Hobie 16 Semi Finals

J/88 North American Championship
Chicago Yacht Club: The J/88 North American Championships wrapped this weekend, with John and Jordan Leahey's Dutch winning overall honors. Sailing in the Corinthian Division, Dutch also took home the prize for the top Corinthian boat. Dutch won in convincing fashion, scoring four bullets in the twelve race series.

The fleet did see a little bit of everything, as conditions varied dramatically during the four-day regatta. Thursday featured northerly winds over 20 knots for much of the day, with five to seven-foot waves. Friday's conditions offered light and lumpy conditions, with southeast winds in the six to eight knot range for much of the day. Saturday brought lighter southwesterlies and a smoother sea state. And the finale on Sunday offer with west to northwest winds in the 10-15 knot range, with gusts of over 20 knots.

Final top ten:
1. Dutch (Corinthian) - John & Jordan Leahey, 36.0
2. Deviation - Iris Vogel, 49.0
3. Exile - Andy Graff, 53.0
4. Gaucho - Dave Tufts, 63.0
5. Piranha (Corinthian) - Dave Dennison, 75.0
6. Spray - Robbie Lowrance, 82.0
7. Albondigas - Justin Scagnelli / Tim Price, 87.0
8. Julia (Corinthian) - Grace and Michael Gillian, 93.0
9. BLUE - Brian O'Malley , 97.0
10. Banter (Corinthian) - Ben Marden , 104.0

Ibiza JoySail - big breeze puts the icing on the cake
Ibiza JoySail finished on a spectacular high note on Sunday with the superyacht fleet fully powered up in a fresh breeze to conclude the Balearic celebration of sail in some style.

Four days of racing began with a challenging course between Mallorca and Ibiza, with the fleet relocating from STP Palma to Marina Ibiza, the co-sponsors of the regatta, followed by three days of coastal courses against the backdrop of Ibiza's dramatic southern shoreline.

The final and deciding 18nm race saw the fleet reaching at speed from the start down to and around Espardell Island north of Formentera in 18-20 knots of true wind, giving all the yachts the chance to fully stretch their legs.

Revelling in the conditions the largest yacht at Ibiza JoySail – the 155ft Hyperion – confirmed her claim on the World Cruising Class title with another race victory to complete her perfect winning streak.

The YD120 Bliss, meanwhile, was able to get the better of her World Cruising rival Windrose of Amsterdam in the final race, taking second place, though the impressive Dykstra 152 hung on to her runner-up spot in the overall table.

Ibiza JoySail 2023 is scheduled to run from 28th September to 1st October.

Little Coca Cola wins Bosphorus Cup
For the first time in many years, one of the smaller boats has won the Bosphorus Cup in Istanbul. Yasar Doga Arıbaş and his team on the Archambault 35, Coca Cola Içedek - Das, lifted the ornate trophy thanks to very consistent scores in the three-day competition.

There were bigger boats breathing down Aribas' neck, and today was the last opportunity to take the fizz out of Coca Cola's charge. A race got underway in very light airs, occasionally rising to 6 knots, but making it hard going to get the boats moving. Yildirim Kaymaz's Farr 55, Orient Express VI, ghosted into the lead down the first run and led through the leeward gate. But when the breeze collapsed, the race committee was left with no choice but to abandon on the second upwind leg. The regatta was done, and Coca Cola had won.

The six Farr 40s in the 73-boat fleet have been a strong feature of the competition this year, and it was Jumbo - FarrFara skippered by Erhan Uzun who came in second.

The massive growth in sponsorship partners this year shows there are many companies who see the same potential for the Bosphorus Cup as event founder Orhan Gorbonn himself. "I think the Bosphorus is one of the most fantastic race courses for a sailor ever to experience," he said. "To race through such a historic piece of water with all its ancient monuments and three modern suspension bridges, there is nothing else like it. For Istanbul, there is no better showcase of what this city has to offer, and it's good to see that many companies are alive to the potential of the Bosphorus Cup to bring attention to the city and to Turkey." -- Andy Rice
