Cumbley consolidates lead on day 3 at OK Dinghy Worlds in Marstrand
Charlie Cumbley, from Britain, has consolidated his lead on the third day of the 2022 OK Dinghy World Championship in Marstrand, Sweden, to take a three point lead at the top from Sweden's Thomas Hansson-Mild, with Norway's Lars Johan Brodtkorb, one point further back.

Two races in a building breeze and clearing skies were the perfect antidote after a great championship dinner the night before and a few dusty heads. Race 5 was started in cloudy conditions and 7-10 knots, before the skies cleared leaving a solid 10-14 knots, nice waves and superb sailing.

There are just four races left in this championship. Cumbley has eked out a three point lead, though the top four are extending away from the rest of the fleet. Cumbley had the best of the day with a 2,3 followed by Brodtkorb, Budzien and Eckardt all, picking up eight points. The next few races will be crucial to see who has what it takes to lift the title.

Racing continues Thursday with two more races scheduled. The championship concludes Friday.

Results after 6 races

Carey Olsen Jersey Regatta and 9th GBR IRC Channel Islands Championship
Scheduled for 2nd to 4th September, the 24th edition of the Island's combined yacht clubs' Jersey Regatta is open for entries.

The Regatta opens on Thursday 1st September with the traditional welcoming 'icebreaker' reception. Racing for the keelboat classes gets under way with a distance race on Friday morning whilst the dayboats, dinghy, sport catamaran and windsurfer classes programme will see boats racing in the beautiful natural arena of St Aubin's Bay, later that afternoon. Friday's races are 'standalone' with their own trophies and prizes whilst, for the Regatta-proper, races held on Saturday and Sunday count for each day's trophies and prizes and the overall 'Best-in-Class' prizes. Now in its 9th year, the GBR IRC Channel Islands Championship, with prizes provided by Spinlock, promises even keener competition in the IRC cruiser/racer fleet. Last year's winner, Guernsey's Ali Bisson's Sunfast 3600, Killing Time, will be defending his title.

The Regatta is an open event for the sailing community as a whole, locals and visitors alike; those arriving from 'distant' parts are assured of a very warm welcome.

Registration is online at www.jerseyregatta.com . 'Early bird's signing up no later than Friday 12th August benefit from discounted fees after which standard fees apply; entries close on Friday 26th August. Fees cover all aspects of the sailing and social programme excepting the separately-ticketed Regatta Party. Additionally, complimentary berthing is being provided by Jersey Marinas, keen supporters of the Jersey Regatta over the past twenty-four years.

For further information, contact the Regatta Office either by e-mail: or by telephone: + 44 (0) 1534 732229.

America's Top Corinthian Sailors Heading to Newport for 2022 Resolute Cup
Newport, Rhode Island USA: After a four-year layoff, amateur sailors representing two dozen of the top racing yacht clubs in the United States will once again gather in Newport for the sixth edition of the Resolute Cup, a Corinthian Championship for U.S. Yacht Clubs.

The 2022 Resolute Cup, which will be hosted by the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court September 12 to 17, is also the only guaranteed pathway for a U.S. yacht club hoping to earn a berth for the 2023 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, the premiere international regatta for Corinthian sailors.

The 2022 Resolute Cup, which will run September 12 to 17, will use the New York Yacht Club's fleet of 23-foot Sonars and a fleet of RS21s provided by regatta sponsor RS Sailing. Icarus Sports will provide live coverage of the final two days of the regatta, which is also sponsored by Hammetts Hotel, Helly Hansen and Safe Harbor Marinas.

There is no better indication of the regard with which clubs hold this event than the quality of the sailors lining up to compete. While all are certified amateur sailors there is an strong congregation of sailing talent including regional and national champions, collegiate All-Americans and former Olympic sailors. -- Stuart Streuli

April 2023 Dates Set For 58th Long Beach Yacht Club Congressional Cup
Dates have been announced for the 58th Congressional Cup regatta and Ficker Cup qualifier hosted by Long Beach Yacht Club: with Congressional Cup slated April 18 to 22, 2023 preceded by the Ficker Cup April 13 to 15, 2023.

The format for Congressional Cup 2023 will continue as a 10-team, double round robin series, followed by semi- and petit finals, with a final stage to determine the victor of the trophy and prestigious Crimson Blazer.

In Congressional Cup 2022 Ian Williams (GBR) evened the score on decades-long rival Taylor Canfield (USA) when he triumphed in the finals after a lively five-day series in breezy conditions. Williams now matches Canfield with five Congressional Cup titles each – and fans hope both will return for another raucous bout of competition.

Congressional Cup is challenged in a fleet of identical 37-foot Catalina sloops designed specifically for LBYC's match racing series, which assures an even platform and exciting competition. Racing is held directly off the city's Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier, where spectators can view the thrilling matches for free, beginning around 1130AM each day.

A perfect day of three races at the 2022 ORCi European Championship
Hanko, Norway; Under yet another day of sunny skies, race managers from the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club (KNS) used the perfect 12-15 knot southerly breeze to produce three windward/leeward races for the first day of inshore competition at the 2022 ORCi European Championship. As expected in all ORC championship events, the racing was highly competitive in each of the three classes that competed on two course areas set in the Oslofjord south of the KNS venue in Hanko.

In Class A there is one team that seemed to make it look easy: Michael Berghorn's Mills 45 Custom HALBTROCKEN 4.5 (GER - shown above) enjoyed success with a clean sweep of victories today for a 5.0 point total after four races. The team's corrected time margins of winning were 1:44 in the first race of the day, and that shrunk to 1:03 in the second race…not bad after about an hour of racing.

However, this winning margin shrunk to 15 seconds in the third race, a very tight time that Berghorn was thankful for due to a late puff of breeze that helped collapse the distance between him and his faster-rated TP 52 rivals ahead on the last downwind leg of the race.

Inshore racing resumes tomorrow, with three races planned to once again start at 1100 with another favorable weather forecast.

Summary of top-three results after 4 races:
Class A: 1. HALBTROCKEN (GER), 2. KATIMA (GER), 3. JOKERMAN (NOR)
Class B: 1. INTERMEZZO (GER), 2. WHITE SHADOW (NOR), 3. OLYMPIC (EST)
Class C: 1. KATARIINA II (EST), 2. MATILDA 4 (EST), 3. TEAM PRO4U (SWE)

100th Anniversary Star World Championship Kicks Off In One Month
It's shaping up to be an event to remember, the 2022 Star World Championship not only will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary Championship but will register a record number of participants after the Olympic years. There will be over 15 past Star World Champions and a good representation of the new generation with 15 U30 teams.

100 years ago, the first ever Star World Championship took place in Long Island, NY, USA, the boat was about 10 years old and its popularity was expanding from the American borders to the rest of the Globe. This year we celebrate one the most endured sailing classes, the International Star Class, with the 100th Anniversary Star World Championship, in Marblehead, MA, USA, not so distant from the venue of the first edition of the event. 90 entries 10 years after being cut from the Olympic Games, it is a testimony of the longstanding appeal of the boat designed in 1910 by Francis Sweisguth and as an Olympic sailing class for 80 years, from 1932 to 2012, more than any other class.

The 2022 Star World Championship will begin on September 10th with the official practice race, and will end on Saturday 17th, after seven days in which the traditional two-hour long six races will be finished. -- Rachele Vitello

Over 60 entries for Uffa Fox Celebratory Regatta
Vigilant 1930 (22 m sq). Photo credit Beken of Cowes. Click on image to enlarge.

Vigilant Cowes, Isle of Wight: Over 60 boats have now entered the Uffa Fox 50 Celebration in Cowes, to be hosted by the Royal London Yacht Club 18th – 21st August. With boats ranging from his famous series of Atalanta cruising designs down to the humble Firefly, this promises to be a feast of nostalgia and some great sailing.

While the most numerous entry is from the Flying Fifteen class, whose European championships are the following week, some of the oldest boats are to be found amongst the vintage International 14s, with boats dating back to the 1930s. Other classes with entries in already include the Albacore, Firefly, National 12, National 18, National Redwing, a Pegasus and a very rare Flying 10.

Amongst the most recent entries is Vigilant, a 22 Square Metre, that Uffa designed and built in 1930 and then sailed to Sweden and back. The boat has recently been restored by the Elephant Boatyard and is now for sale.

The opening reception for the event will be held at the "Commodore's House", right on the shores of Cowes Harbour, the building where Uffa lived, had his design office and built a few boats. The dinghies taking part will be berthed on Cowes Parade when not sailing, so on view for the public to admire, while there is rumour that a very famous Flying Fifteen may also be on display. -- John Roberson

ORC Sportboat European Championship fleet is building
Sistiana, Italy: The interest is steadily building for the 2022 edition of the ORC Sportboat European Championship being held this year at the Diporto Nautico Sistiana (DNS) over 10-15 October.

The club is located in Sistiana, a small harbor just 15 kilometers west of Trieste with three piers, 48 slips available for entries and just minutes away from the racing areas set in the Gulf of Trieste.

Along with boat, sail and crew measurements inputed to the ORC VPP, this grouping scheme helps equalize the wide variety of common sportboat designs, from older keelboats to very fast modern designs, some even with trapezes.

ORC Sportboat European Champion titles are awarded to the top-ranked team in each division, and all-amateur teams are eligible for Corinthian trophies as well.

For more information on how to enter, logistics, and other matters related to the event, please visit the website at www.orcsportboat2022.eu
