Leaders Past The Lizard
The boat speed has ramped up in the Sevenstar Round Britain & Ireland Race with the two IMOCAs in the race wicked up and closing in on The Isles of Scilly. The Class40s are yet to taste full downwind conditions but are expected to round The Lizard early this afternoon. The fully crewed boats in IRC One are following the Class40s line looking to stay relatively inshore. The big tactical battle on the morning of day two is in the Two-Handed fleet with a number of boats heading offshore rather than following the boats ahead.

IMOCA Class
Oliver Heer Ocean Racing, skippered by Ollie Heer hung onto the line honours lead until The Lizard. Pip Hare's Medallia took a slightly more offshore line during the first night and caught up with their rivals and then smoked past them after The Lizard. The breeze is up and the 125 degree wind angle is the sweet-spot for Medallia's foils, which has now seen boat speed increase to over 15 knots on the YB Tracker.

Class40 Division
Antoine Magre's Palanad 3 has powered to the front of the Class40s and is about an hour from rounding The Lizard. Six miles astern is James McHugh's Tquila, followed by Andrea Fornaro's Influence and Greg Leonard's Kite.

Fully Crewed
The HVS' JV52 Haspa Hamburg, skippered by Christian Heerman is three miles ahead of their rivals, the SKWB's JV53 Bank von Bremen, skippered by Christoph Tschernischen. However, under IRC Haspa Hamburg rates higher than Bank von Bremen, which leads the duel after IRC time correction.

RC Two-Handed
Ross Hobson's Open 50 Pegasus of Northumberland leads on the water 20 miles from The Lizard. After IRC time correction two Sun Fast 3600s are ranked at the top, Nick Martin's Diablo, racing with Cal Finlayson and Rob Craigie's Sun Fast 3600 Bellino, racing with Deb Fish. However, a number of Two-Handed teams have ventured well south of the rhumb line including Steve Berry's Sun Fast 3300 Marco Polo and Sam White and Sam North racing JPK 1080 Mzungu!

Sevenstar Round Britain & Ireland Race

Lars Johan Brodtkorb takes early lead at OK Dinghy Worlds in sunny Marstrand
Lars Johan Brodtkorb, from Norway, has taken the early lead at the OK Dinghy World Championship in Marstrand, Sweden. Sweden's Thomas Hansson-Mild is in second with Charlie Cumbley, from Britain in third. The race wins on the first day went to Hansson-Mild and Brodtkorb.

With more starts than anyone cares to remember, two races were finally completed in very different conditions. It was certainly a day of two halves with the first race sailed in 8-12 knots before dropping as forecast for the second race to 5-7 knots. Both races had multiple restarts as the fleet of 109 boats from 11 countries and three continents fought hard for start line real estate, and getting out in front was far from easy.

The day after receiving his OKDIA Hall of Fame induction, Thomas Hansson-Mild, from Sweden led all the way in Race 1. He found better wind on the left to round with a nice lead and was never really threatened, though it got close on the final upwind when the wind started to drop. Brodtkorb came through for second with Niklas Edlar, from Sweden in third.

Race 2 took more than an hour to get away with 19 boats sent home under the blag flag. The lighter winds and larger shifts made for a tricky race but Brodtkorb found a shift on the left to round with a nice lead and led all the way to the finish, though Daniel Bjorndahl, from Sweden almost caught him, though he was scored BFD, handing Hansson-Mild a second place, with Cumbley in third.

Racing continues Tuesday with two more races scheduled from 11.00. The championship concludes on Friday.

Horonuku Has Landed
Horonuku has arrived safely in Australia. Clearing customs this week in Adelaide after its journey via sea from Auckland over the past month or so. As sure as the sun rises each day, Landspeed pilot Glenn Ashby was there to meet the containers loaded with every conceivable item required for an outback World Record Wind Powered Landspeed attempt as well as Horonuku itself.

Not yet at its final destination, this week's task of significance has been to carefully de-van both containers at the Adelaide freight depot so that the Quarantine and Customs inspectors can have a good walk through the containers and inspect everything.

"This isn't a small or insignificant task. Clearly it is important to do as part of the customs and quarantine process, but it is not without risk unfortunately." explained Ashby

"A few of the guys back at base in Auckland are a bit concerned because the containers have been packed very intricately to ensure no damage to Horonuku or any of the contents of the container while in transit. So I need to be very careful that once it is unpacked, everything is repacked precisely as it was because the most hazardous part of the journey to Lake Gairdner remains, a lot of which is on unsealed dirt roads. So one loose item rolling around a container has the potential to cause a lot of damage and affect the whole programme."

Despite the pass mark from the authorities on the customs check, the pass mark on the repack will only be known when the container doors are opened up at Lake Gairdner in the coming weeks.

Alinghi Red Bull Racing: Christened and Ready to Fly
It has been just four months since Barcelona was announced as the venue for the 37th America's Cup due to take place in September and October 2024 and as a mark of how seriously the challengers are gearing up for the right to take on Emirates Team New Zealand, the current America's Cup holders, the first boat has already splashed.

The Alinghi Red Bull Racing team, one of the most famous syndicates of the modern era in Cup history, today launched its training vessel, the first AC75 ever built that Emirates Team New Zealand used so effectively to work up for the 36th America's Cup in Auckland.

Expectations dockside in Barcelona were palpable as the re-christened 'Alinghi Red Bull Racing' emerged from its temporary base shed, at the western end of the port, replete with a stunning, fresh new livery and looking ready for high octane action. Alceo Bertarelli, son of syndicate founder Ernesto Bertarelli, smashed the customary bottle of champagne on the wing as Red Bull sponsored Hazal Nahir, the trail-blazing Turkish parkour athlete performed tricks on the foil arms. It was a stunning celebration to mark the official launch of this latest Swiss challenge for the America's Cup.

Having purchased the boat early in the cycle from Emirates Team New Zealand, the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team have been working flat-out to prepare the AC75 for its first sail, scheduled for this week, subject to tow-testing and final safety preparations. And adding experience to the Swiss team are two legends of the America's Cup in the form of Dean Barker from New Zealand, a veteran campaigner, part of the winning New Zealand team in 2000 and recently helmsman of American Magic in 2021, plus Pietro Sibello, a finalist with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the 2021 Match.

Doublehanded Sailing is Back
Lake Como, Italy: The 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 fleets completed the biggest ever Junior World Championship for each of the classes. A total of 140 teams from 30 nations are racing in the 2022 edition from Lago di Como, Italy. Simultaneously the 29er World had another 245 teams racing 'just down the road' in Spain.

For the past two years it seemed like sailing singlehanded became the defacto option. As families sheltered from the pandemic the only way to reliably get on the water was to do so solo. Be it moths, ILCA's, waszps, a-cats anything that could be sailed singlehanded, it was hard to be a doublehanded sailor. With a renewed openness in the world it seems humans are social after all!

The Como multilario, a six-strong yacht club consortium on lake Como welcomed the fleets on three races areas in one of the most spectacular venues the world has to offer. Crisp azure waters, green mountains, and a reliable daily wind make this a slice of sailor heaven.

Quite naturally, the Junior fleets are always recycling. Teams graduate up to senior levels, others realize the Olympic path might not be for them. Filling the ranks are new teams and sailors ambitious to realize their sailing dreams. Lake Como offered a wonderful and intimate environment for teams get meet and become friendly with one another, starting friendships that may last a lifetime. This bonding was cemented on day four of the championship when stormy weather turned the winds around to the north of the lake requiring upwind launching and retrieving of all 120 49er and FX's.

Racing ran from August 3-7, 2022 and full results are available from the Junior Worlds website.

12 Youth Teams Ready To Race In Torbole
Torbole, Italy: Twelve international teams are getting ready to compete in Act 4 of the 69F Youth Foiling Gold Cup 2022 in Torbole at the northern end of Lake Garda in Italy. Competition will take place from 9 to 14 August out of Torbole, renowned as one of the world's great venues for high-performance sailing - and high-speed foiling in particular.

Lake Garda holds a special place in the hearts and minds of everyone associated with the Persico 69F class. This was where the hard yards and much of the development work went into refining the details of this pioneering three-person foiling machine. As one of the best lakes in the world for flat-water and strong-wind conditions, the under-25 crews are looking forward to some fast and furious competition on the legendary waters of Garda.

So far this season there have been three different winners at three events on the Youth Foiling Gold Cup circuit:

Team Argentina won Act 1 in Miami, USA

Real Team France won Act 2 in Portoroz, Slovenia

Okalys Youth Project won Act 3 in Newport, Rhode Island, USA

However, at last season's event on Lake Garda almost exactly 12 months ago it was DutchSail - Janssen de Jong who showed their mastery of the conditions. This year there are two teams - a mixed and a girls crew - representing the Dutch squad. Both teams will be coached by Olympic medallist and Volvo Ocean Race veteran Annemieke Bes.

Rolex Swan Cup
It's the Swan family celebration of the year, a gathering of the Nautor community, a passionate festival of sail – it is the highlight of the Mediterranean racing season, The Rolex Swan Cup.

As ever the luxurious and atmospheric resort of Porto Cervo, nestled in the heart of the exclusive Costa Smeralda coastal area, is the venue for the biennial festival of all things Swan from 11 to 18 September.

With a growing entry list of 90 yachts gathering from all over the world, the Rolex Swan Cup fleet will showcase the diversity as well as the history of Nautor's Swan enduring brand.

It will encompass the full range from the brand-new Swan 120 Audrey the First to the S&S designed Swan 36 Josian, a magnificently restored example of one of the earliest Nautor's Swan models dating back to 1967.

Organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Nautor's Swan in collaboration with longstanding partner Rolex, the regatta will feature six days of racing including a challenging coastal race for all classes. It is also the final event in the season long and hotly contested Nations League competition.

With the wide range of Swan designs attending, the fleet looks set to be divided into seven classes, with three featuring the Swan one-designs – the ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 42 and ClubSwan 36, which will be making their first appearance at the Rolex Swan Cup.

The other four will offer rating racing intended to provide a fair and level playing field for Swans with very different dimensions and characteristics.

Raceboats Only YYACHTS Y7. POA EUR.

The Y7 was created in collaboration with US designer Bill Tripp, considered one of the world's best naval architects. Our goal was to combine comfortable sailing performance with competitive sailing performance, even on the regatta course.

In conditions where other yachts still use their engines, the sails are already set on the Y7. A displacement of only 29 tons and almost 300 square meters of sail area at wind make move the yacht even in light winds; Y7 owners don't have to worry about the perfect weather all the time.

All halyards, sheets and stretchers run hidden to the steering columns - so the helmsman can operate the Y7 alone at any time. This is not a matter of course for a 70-foot yacht and allows the owner to sail with a very small crew or even on his own.
