18 Skiff Lake Garda, Italy - The Sailing club of Garda Trentino, especially in the summer period, also make themselves available for classes, events, which exclusively involve foreign crews, as they are reserved for classes that are not widespread in Italy. On the other hand, the wind conditions in the northern part of Lake Garda are famous throughout the world, and many class associations choose the Lake Garda sailing clubs as the venue for prestigious events. They make their experience available to entertain the racers, who find plenty of wind in an area that also offers a lot for accompanying families.

This is what is happening at the Mark Foy European Championship of the acrobatic 18-footers from Australia, who are putting on a great show at Circolo Vela Arco.

After the restrictions of the last two years, Australian teams have also returned, as at the Championship that is taking place at Circolo Vela Arco, with acrobatic boats that have been able to anticipate the times of modern sailing since the Australian 18-footers were born in the Bay of Sydney in the second half of the 1800s.

Mark Foy, to whom the regatta is dedicated, was a visionary sailing entrepreneur who transformed Australian skiffs into spectacular boats that arrived in Europe much later. If in Sydney Foy had the intuition of having spectators follow the races from the ferries to involve them in the adrenalin-fuelled races of the 18-footers, on the Upper Garda the Ponale road, sheer above the water, offers a natural grandstand to follow the acrobatics of these boats, difficult to tame, but exciting.

Conclusion of the event on Friday 22 July.

Rodos Cup
The sailing week "Rodos Cup 2022" started with the best conditions. The planned route from Kos, with destination Palos in Nisyros, started with low wind 2-3 Beaufort, in the first 5 miles of the route, which gradually increased to 5-6 Beaufort, until the finish. Thus, the crews faced thrilling racing conditions before tying up safely in the port of Palos. As the sailing part for the day finished early, they had the opportunity to enjoy the beauties of the island of Nisyros, as well as a small welcome party, organized by the Municipality and the cultural club of the island.

In the IMS1 category, the BLUE SHARK came first.
In the IMS2 category, first place went to MOUSMOULO
In the IRC1 category, the first place went to MATRAK2
In the IRC2 category, first place went to HOT PANTS 3
In the Cruising1 category, first place went to PANDEA
In the Cruising2 category, first place went to RITIO

The game will also include two teams that, given the events sailed overseas, in the course of 2022 had not yet seen in the European basin: Andrea Racchelli's Altea (ITA), former World Champion and reigning European Champion of the International Melges 24 Class Association and one of the most experienced owner of the class; and Peter Karrie's Nefeli (GER), the best European boat at the recent Melges 24 Worlds in Fort Lauderdale, which will count on the experience of tactician Niccolò Bianchi, who only a few days ago, on the same race course, was the winner of another important one design event.

To complete the top five of the overall ranking there are two Corinthian crews: Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team (GBR) is fourth, twenty-six points away from Melgina and just four points in front of Arkanoé by Montura (ITA), the boat owned and helmed by Sergio Caramel.

Gusty Middle Day at J/24 World Championship
Corpus Christi, Texas USA: After the first race on Wednesday (Race 5) at the J/24 World Championship hosted by Corpus Christi Yacht Club in Texas USA, Paul Foerster's Grand Slam 2 and Mike Marshall's American Garage were tied for the top position. But in Race 6, Foerster nailed a bullet, giving him 10 net points. The discard race has now come into effect, allowing Foerster to drop a 7. Marshall's American Garage is in close range with 14 net points for second place. Nobuyuki Imai's Siesta moved up to third overall with 17 net points. The fourth and fifth spots are still quite tight: John Mollicone's New England Ropes (19 points) and Keith Whittemore's Furio (20 points). Foerster also leads the 27-boat Corinthian division, ahead of Imai's Siesta and James Freedman's LOL.

The racecourse was reduced Wednesday to four legs but still at 1.45 nautical miles. The Black Flag was out again with an all-clear start for Race 5. Winds were 18-22 knots, gusting to 24. Code flag Yankee was displayed onshore and on signal boat, requiring all competitors to wear life jackets. Race 6 continued under Black Flag at 1.5 nautical miles, with one boat BFD. The breeze held at 18-22 knots as gusts increased to the mid/upper 20s.

Marshall's American Garage earned his second consecutive victory in the day's initial contest, with Imai and William Fastiggi's Fawn Liebowitz rounding out the top three. Foerster's Grand Slam 2 won the race to the dock, trailed by Fastiggi and Travis Odenbach's Bogus.

Thirty-eight boats are representing Argentina, Chile, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Trinidad and the United States. Racing continues through Friday.

World Sailing Extraordinary General Meeting unanimously backs Governance Reform proposals
At an Extraordinary General Meeting held virtually on 18 July 2022, representatives of Member National Authorities (MNA) voted unanimously that the Board should draft the detailed amendments to give effect to proposed changes to the Constitution tabled by the Board.

A second proposal (Annex 1) on Conflicts of Interest was passed with a 97% majority. Further proposals on Appointed Directors and Staggered Elections failed to meet the '50% + one vote' threshold.

The detailed drafting will be submitted to the Annual General Meeting at the Annual Conference in October for final approval. To be effective this will require a 75% majority before there is any change to the Constitution. Relevant Regulatory changes will also be needed.

Philip Baum, World Sailing Vice-President and Chair of the Board Governance Sub-Committee, said: "This is an opportunity to secure the future of sailing by modernising our governance processes. Adopting these changes will make our Federation more attractive to commercial investment and a more trusted partner for our stakeholders.

"The current model was developed in an era when the scope of the Federation was much smaller. As World Sailing has grown it has become evident that this structure should be updated to better suit the challenges of a modern sport. Change is both inevitable and necessary.

"In consultation with our Members, the current proposals have been designed to promote collaboration in sailing to better serve all of the people involved in the sport. These include sailors, be they high performance or recreational, our volunteers, all of our MNAs, the classes which make up our sport, and importantly our commercial partners, governments and the International Olympic Committee as well as other key decision makers in the sporting arena."

WHAT Euromarine Insurance Ramsgate Week 2022 Day 2 saw the IRC and Cruiser classes undertake different coastal courses in warm, sunny, breezy, perfect sailing conditions.

The IRC classes were sent off on a 15-mile, offshore, circular course in 16-20 knots of breeze. After a perfect start, Assassin took line honours but corrected time shows a slightly different story.

The cruisers tackled two courses which saw Classes 5 and 6 on a 14.1-mile sail to the Deal Dolphin mark before returning to Ramsgate around Sandwich Bay. Class 7 were sent in the same general direction but on a shorter course of 11.6 miles. The dozen boats in Class 5 sailed a keenly fought race

Gwalaz After using flax to build the small trimaran Gwalaz in 2013, Roland Jourdain has since upscaled the concept in preparation for entering the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe on We Explore, an Outremer 5X built partially from the same fibres. VPLP Design is delighted to have been part of this innovative approach.

Roland "Bilou" Jourdain has for many years been involved in sustainable design through his company Kaïros and the foundation Explore, which was set up in 2013 to hasten the green transition in the boatbuilding industry. We Explore, his latest construction project, represents an enormous technical challenge which will be tested to the limit in the forthcoming Route du Rhum–Destination Guadeloupe 2022. Her deck was built in the Outremer yard at La Grand Motte using flax instead of more traditional reinforcing fibres. The 60' catamaran went into the water in early May.

"Bilou and Outremer wanted to build a demonstrator, a reproducible object using the yard's existing resources in terms of moulds and moulding operators. They didn't want to build an absolute prototype," says Katia Merle, structural engineer at VPLP Design.

VPLP has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Outremer, designing the 5X in 2012. However flax panels weigh 20% more than glass-fibre ones of equivalent strength. This reduced mechanical performance meant that it was impossible to comply with the weight requirements of a performance yacht like the 5X without substantially reworking the build.

Italia Yachts is ready to celebrate the world premiere launch of the Italia Yachts 12.98 new.

An all-new project awaited by those who are looking for a boat built to sail having a great comfort in the interior, livable with extreme pleasure even for a long time of a cruise, IY 12.98 it' s solid, safe and well-tuned.

The design, entrusted to Maurizio Cossutti, Alessandro Ganz and the Italia Yachts Design Team, has had important importance in hydrodynamic simulations and data analysis obtaining streamlined lines made to glide over the water and allow the best passage on the waves. Lines that are light and less aggressive than the latest Italia Yachts.

Light at the helm and easy to carry, the IY 12.98 new also maintains firmly the distinctive features of the entire Italia Yachts range. If the exteriors and the deck are well designed for unhindered outdoor living, thanks to the passage below the deck of all maneuvers and flush skylights, the cockpit also leaves ample space completely unobstructed for easy passage from stern to bow.

The new Dehler 46SQ embodies everything that Dehler have learnt over almost sixty years of yacht design. The quality of finish and level of trim leads the fleet, whilst new rigs, a flat furler and optional flying forestay guarantee a capable and exhilarating sail.

An integrated footrest offers extra comfort for longer legs at the helm, and folds flush to the deck when not in use. A new, lighter remote-controlled bathing platform, streamlined arch and even a backlit logo feature all add to the sense of carefully considered luxury on board.

The C-Catamarans line includes six models between 37 and 62 feet, sailing and motor, and already has much larger models in the drawer. The C-Cat 48 is the third model that takes the sea, after the entry level C- Cat 37 and the C- Cat 40 Power Fish dedicated to those who pursue the exciting passion of fishing.

C-Catamarans

This first C-Cat 48 is particularly pleasant in the interiors, with a large saloon that opens to the cockpit on one side – with no interruption in the floor - becoming a single large open-air environment, which can be completely closed in case of need. The three cabins - one owner and two guests - are spacious and both equipped with more than comfortable bathrooms. The number one of this line is also furnished in a contemporary classic style, light and complete with all the supports to live well at sea. A second command post in the saloon guarantees navigation in complete tranquility even in the event of particularly rough sea or bad weather. The C-Cat 48 has already sailed and completed tests in all meteorological conditions.

During a transfer test from Fiumicino to La Grande Motte, the C-Cat 48 sailed in strong wind conditions and motorized in the absence of air, registering a travel average of 9.5 knots with peaks of 14. The C - Cat 48 did not stop even in a storm where a conservative but fast pace (12/14 knots) was maintained with only the Yankee sail. The multihull has proven to glide well on the water giving a sense of comfort and tranquility.

This new version of the Swan 55 model Line represents a new generation of hull design developed over the past couple of years with the assistance of tools available today to study the behavior of the canoe body in all sailing conditions.

WHAT

There are hulls with a powerful back end that attain maximum sailing length and low resistance while heeled thus the lowest possible displacement / length ratio and they provide excellent balance through the range of heel angles in combination with the well proven twin rudder set up.

When designing the bow sections which are well rounded transversally and have a sharp entry angle, we have favored the sailing condition and comfortable ride when heeled. Because of the longitudinal high length to depth ratio sometimes it will be necessary to slow the speed while powering against a head chop.

The hull displacement is the result of a thorough study of weight and the position of the equipment onboard. These boats need to carry a fair amount of equipment for the comfort of the people living and enjoying life on board. However, the speed will be very good all around.

She will be a pleasant yacht to sail, easy to handle and cruise in its standard version and race in in its performance set up version, which includes a square top mainsail and a bowsprit for the light weather and downwind sails." -- German Frers
