The Many Colours of Volvo Cork Week - Day Three
The third day of Volvo Cork Week incorporating the ICRA National Championships was blessed with sunshine and 8-10 knots of breeze from the north. The majority of the 192 teams competing were racing inside Cork Harbour today, forming a riot of colour from spinnakers in the picturesque harbour. The two Non-Spinnaker Classes and IRC One started their long race in Ringabella Bay. The Cape 31 Class and Dragons had windward leeward races off Roaches Point.

IRC Racing Classes and One-Design Race winners on 13 July at Volvo Cork Week: Cape 31 Antix, Cape 31 Shotgunn, Mills 39 Zero II, J/109 Joker 2, Quarter Tonner BLT, 1720 Rope Dock Atara, Ker40+ Signal 8.

Dragon and Echo Non-Spinnaker winners 13 July: Peter Bowring's Dragon Phantom, Cameron Good's Dragon Little Fella, Batt & Helen O'Leary's Sweet Dreams, Clodagh O'Donovan's Roaring Forties

New monohull course record at the Aegean 600
At 05:17:20 local time this morning, the canting-keeled Elliot 52 RAFALE (GER) skippered by Phillip Kadelbach, crossed the outer limit of the finish line to establish a new monohull elapsed time course record in the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club's (HORC) second edition of the AEGEAN 600. The team averaged 9.6 knots around the 605-mile race course, and their elapsed time of 63H 02M 20S smashes the previous mark of 71H 54M 00S set last year by the Farr/Felci 70 ATALANTA by nearly 9 hours.

Gregor Stimpfl, owner of HAGAR V (ITA), finished his Scuderia 65 this morning one hour later to defeat RAFALE in corrected time in both IRC and ORC scoring, and looks to be the winner in those two classes, but not by much: only 15 minutes after over 2.5 days of racing.

The next boat to finish in the early afternoon was Karl Enzler's Baltic 67 LURIGNIA (SUI)

Taking up the rear in the fleet are the Double Handed entries, where there has been a serious boat-on-boat fight for the lead in this class. Early this morning Gerasimos Petratos and Evi Delidou sailing their Dehler 30 AETHER (GRE) were finally challenged for the lead they had enjoyed throughout the first half of the race. PNEUMA (POL), Andrejz Rozycki and Adam Skomski's JPK 10.30, caught the Greeks last night after rounding Rhodos on the long leg to Kandeliousa and then passed them after hours of racing together last night and into today's early hours on the long leg to the east side of Kos.

Grand Prix Series from Robline
Robline Robline's proactive approach to product development is one of the main ingredients for delivering high performance racing lines for all kind of boats. Ideas for new products often come from its most demanding users – including some of the world's best sailors. The Grand Prix product series from Robline is a mix of ropes tested and optimized in race conditions.

These rope constructions were successfully employed on TP52, M32, GC32, Club Swan 50, RC44, and other Grand Prix yachts. They come in diameters from 7.5 mm on up. Some have covers made of 100% PBO; some use a mix of high-tech fiber cover. The highest performing among those lines feature breaking loads of up to 45 tons and are used as genoa sheets for mega yachts. We use three different types of cores, each surrounded by braided covers optimized for the respective diameters and types of use.

Thanks to our one-of-a-kind STS Stronger than Steel® technology, we are able to produce ropes featuring exceptionally low stretch for the required diameters. Those are ideally suited for Halyards and other minimum stretch applications. This allows Grand Prix sailors to keep the diameter, consequently also the wind resistance and the top weight low.

Do you want to be among the frontrunners on a regatta course? Then leave nothing to chance! Robline will help you to make your race success a reality! Find out more about our Grand Prix product range on our website or read into it in this year's catalog

2022 GC32 World Championship - Day 0
Ten teams from as far afield as Australia and the USA are competing from tomorrow until Sunday in the fourth GC32 World Championship, off Lagos on Portugal's Algarve. The line-up includes America's Cup winners, Volvo Ocean Race sailors, Olympic and World Champions and SailGP teams.

Favourite is Alinghi Red Bull Racing. The Swiss America's Cup winners and current challengers won the two opening events of this year's GC32 Racing Tour, including, just two weeks ago, the GC32 Lagos Cup. However the team's regular skipper Arnaud Psarofaghis, who won the GC32 World Championship here in 2019, is tied up with America's Cup commitments and has passed the helm to 24-year-old Maxime Bachelin.

Following the retirement of Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher, their 2021 GC32 World Championship winning crew from Red Bull Sailing Team has disbanded but is employed elsewhere here - Rhys Mara with Simon Delzoppo's .film AUS Racing and Julius Hallström with Team Rockwool Racing.

The sole GC32 World Championship winning skipper competing is Swiss Olympic 49er and SailGP helm Sébastien Schneiter, whose Team Tilt won in 2018.

Racing gets underway at 1000 local time Thursday 14th of July, with five races/day scheduled until Sunday when the fourth World Champion will be decided.

ORC D Gets an A for Competitiveness
Newport, Rhode Island USA: Three races, three different winners on the water, three points separating the top three teams. Those are the bullet points from the sharp end of the leaderboard in ORC D, and they all portend a great week of racing in the largest class of handicap yachts at 13th edition of Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex.

Currently, it's Robin Team's J/122 Teamwork that holds the top spot after a challenging day on Rhode Island Sound. New York Yacht Club Commodore Paul Zabetakis sits just a point behind in his Swan 42 Impetuous. In third is Andrew Berdon's J/111 Summer Storm, which is making its debut after a winter refit that has the 11-year-old boat looking like it just came off the production line.

With 24 boats on the line, no throw outs allowed, and the class's national championship on the line, the focus for Day 1 in the IC37 fleet was avoiding any regatta-losing mistakes. So, it was more than a little surprising to see one boat punch out to an 8-point lead with a 2-1-2 scoreline, even for the architect of that envious trio of finishes.

It was a much different scene in ORC B, where the 52-footers Fox and Vesper were the only two boats sailing today. A third, Gladiator, is expected to join tomorrow. But with each boat chock full of top professional sailors, it was just as challenging as it would be in a larger fleet, even if the result was a binary situation.

Salcombe Gin July Regatta Hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club, The Salcombe Gin July Regatta was held in sizzling heat in the Solent. Despite light airs, Principal Race Officer Tanya Robinson and Course Race Officers Charlie Stowe and Tom Rusbridge, provided two days of racing for the fleet, assisted by Royal Southern Volunteers. It was thirsty work, and after racing, sailors enjoyed the full hospitality of the Royal Southern Clubhouse on the banks of the Hamble River. The daily prize givings were well attended, with a generous helping of superb cocktails and prizes from regatta sponsor Salcombe Gin.

IRC One
Cowes resident James Howells was at the helm of his Cape 31 Gelert to win the performance IRC One Class but only on countback. James Cooper's Cape 31 Fanatic was leading the class going into the last race, but Gelert's race win secured the regatta win by the narrowest of margins. Stevie Becket's Mills 40 Cobra scored a win in Race Two and completed the podium.

* From Paul Newell in Cowes:

Not sure if this is the right place to have a whinge about powerboats and RIB's but if the message gets out then I might not have wasted my, or your, time.

It's my understanding that the speed limit for all craft on the water is 6kts within half a mile of the shore?

So why is it that so very many powerboat and RIB drivers seem to think that this law does not apply to them?

I speak from direct experience as having anchored in Seagrove Bay over the last weekend, towards the Eastern end, and on the NE coast, of the Isle of Wight, I witnessed dozens (yes, dozens) of engine powered craft exceeding this speed limit, well within the half mile limit, with speed, on occasions, close to 40kts, and also in amongst other moored craft and swimmers.

And obviously with no regard for other boaters or, more to the point, the resultant carnage left behind them as their wash effected the moored boats they had just passed.

I know that water born policing is pretty rare but is there any way of trying to educate some of the ignorance out of powerboaters?

I, I hope, as a yacht sailor, have far more consideration for other people around me whilst I'm sailing but the powerboat fraternity seem to ignore everyone else around them in their efforts to get to where they want to go as fast as they possibly can.

I'm sure there are some very considerate and careful powerboaters out there but from what I witnessed over this last weekend, they are very few and very far between.
