Kuka3 takes line honours in SSE Renewables Round Ireland Race
After just over 100 hours in the SSE Renewables Round Ireland Race, Franco Niggeler's Kuka3 crossed the finishing-line at Wicklow Harbour on Wednesday evening after convincingly leading the on the water race for four solid days.

Becalmed on the Irish Sea for most of the day, a change with the ebb tide finally got the crew back to Wicklow helped by a gentle evening breeze.

The course time was unusually slow despite fresh winds for the first half of the race that started on Saturday and is a marked contrast to the current course record set in 2016 by George David on Rambler 88 of just over 50 hours.

The Volvo 70-footer Green Dragon is the next expected finisher at Wicklow probably at dusk while the next group of five boats with 35 miles still to sail were racing against another evening shutdown of the light breeze and expected turn of the tide; their arrival at Wicklow Sailing Club was not expected until the early hours of Thursday morning.

52nd Newport Bermuda Race
Hamilton, Bermuda: The great majority of the 186-boat fleet arrived overnight inBermuda and yesterday's provisional divisional leaders have all been confirmed as the winners in the 52nd running of the Newport Bermuda Race.

Winning the largest division in the race, the St. David's Lighthouse Division with 108 boats, is Illusion, a Cal 40 owned by Sally and Stan Honey (Palo Alto, California). Illusion's victory is the fourth time a Cal 40 has won the St. David's Lighthouse Division, following on from Vincent Learson's Thunderbird in 1966 and Peter Rebovich, Sr.'s Sinn Fein in 2006 and '08.

Racing with 1984 Olympic Gold medalist Carl Buchan (Seattle, Wash.), fellow Cal 40 owner Don Jesberg (Belvedere, Calif.) and multi-tasker Jonathan "Bird" Livingston (Richmond, Calif.) as bowman, Illusion completed the 635-nautical-mile course with an elapsed time of 87h:01m:33s, good for a corrected time of 51:02:13 and a decisive victory of more than two hours over Andrew Clark's (Greenwich, Connecticut) J/122 Zig Zag. Jim Murray's (Lake Bluff, Illinois) Pac52 Callisto, the divisional line honors winner, finished third, just 15 seconds astern of Zig Zag on corrected time.

Sailing their "final hurrah" in Illusion (they've sold the boat to Stan's nephew), Sally Honey said it was the perfect ending to an illustrious, 33-year run with the boat.

In the 38-boat Finisterre Division for cruisers, Dudley Johnson's (New York City) Tripp 65 Prevail earned first place, beating Andrew Burton's (Newport, Rhode Island) Baltic 47 Masquerade by just over 25 minutes. The division was divided into three classes, with Prevail winning Class 9, Masquerade Class 8, and Brian Bush's (North Chatham, Massachusetts) Toujours, a Tartan 37-2, Class 7.

The overall line honors winner, Jason Carroll's (New York City) MOD70 Argo, finished late Saturday night, marking the first-ever Saturday finish in the 116-year history of the race. Argo set a new course record of 33 hours, at an average speed of 19.24 knots.

In the high-performance Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Division, Warrior Won, Christopher Sheehan's (Larchmont, New York) Pac52, captured first place not only on corrected time but also elapsed time, earning monohull line honors and the Corporation of Hamilton prize as the elapsed-time winner of the combined St. David's Lighthouse and Gibbs Hill Lighthouse divisions.

Warrior Won's elapsed time of 56h:43m:34s corrected out to a win of nearly 37 minutes over Darren Walters' (Boston, Massachusetts) Sunfast 3300 Alchemist, the smallest boats in the division.

When time is money - Hexel
Hexel Hexcel's new range of G-Vent pre-pregs solves many of the biggest challenges for composite yacht and component manufacturers... including allowing a much-accelerated production process

Hexcel is one of the world's leading carbon fibre suppliers with a multi- billion-dollar annual turnover. Their largest research and technology centre for resin systems and adhesives is at Duxford in Cambridgeshire, UK, with strong links to a number of the UK's leading universities. The fibre they supply is used extensively within the latest generation America's Cup and Imoca fleets as well as within the aviation, defence, energy and automotive industries, and naturally when a company with such a reputation says it has developed a game-changing technology, we listen carefully.

Hexcel announced the launch of G-Vent pre-preg in March this year, and instantly solved many of the biggest complicating factors of pre-preg manufacture.

Quantum Racing's Superior Consistency
Maintaining a superior level of consistency Quantum Racing lead the Rolex TP52 World Championship by four points after another two challenging light winds races on the waters off Cascais, Portugal. And while double world champions Platoon are pressing their US flagged rivals hard, pairing a fourth to a comprehensive race win in the second contest of the day, the Thailand team Vayu of the Whitcraft family continue to punch above their weight holding third overall with their slippery 2015 generation boat.

Broadly speaking the top four teams of the nine boat fleet have managed to string together a measure of regular results. Doug DeVos' leaders Quantum Racing have not finished outside the top three, piecing together three second places and a third. Platoon have improved daily, going 5,3,4,1 and even the Plattner family's fourth placed Phoenix with Tom Slingsby calling tactics have sailed 4,4,5,4 but others have ridden the big dipper, Alegre notably partnering two race wins with an eighth and a ninth and Takashi Okura's defending world champions Sled are 8,1,8,5 in sixth.

Kiel Cup went to "Intermezzo" and "Halbtrocken"
The weather gods had little in mind for the sailors today, Wednesday, June 22nd, at the start of the Olympic part of Kiel Week. Because the sun hid for too long, the thermal easterly wind did not build up. Doldrums - no races were possible in the eight disciplines neither for the 11th ACO Musto Skiff World Championships. Next attempt on Thursday from 11 o'clock. On Sunday, June 26th, the final medal races are scheduled. At least one light wind race succeeded on the offshore course to conclude the Kiel Cup with overall German winners from Berlin ("Intermezzo"/Jens Kuphal/ORC I/II) and Flensburg (Knut Freudenberg/"Halbtrocken"/ORC III/IV).

With a lot of patience, great adaptability to the most diverse weather phenomena and the willingness to hold out until the last moment, the crews of the offshore yachts and the organization boats around principal race officer Eckart Reinke got the maximum out of the possibilities of the Kiel Cup regattas. The six races in three days demanded from the crews not only good seamanship, trim and tactics, but also navigational skills in the Coastal Races.

The new, innovative courses of the coastal races were also a test run for the ORC World Championship, which will be held off Kiel in August 2023.

Day 6 of Kiel Week 2022 will be livestreamed on Thursday, June 23rd starting with Nacra17 at 13:00 (UTC +2).

50th Anniversary Of The Cape2Rio Race
Cape2Rio We are counting down to the start of the iconic #Cape2RioRace, which will be celebrating its 50th year in 2023. Boats set sail on 2 January for the #adventureofalifetime.

The Cape 2 Rio Yacht Race, is the longest continent to continent yacht race in the southern hemisphere. It was inspired by South African sailing legend, Bruce Dalling, winner on handicap of the 1968 Transatlantic Single-Handed Yacht Race.

The race was conceived to give South African & Brazilian sailors an opportunity to take part in a Trans-Atlantic Ocean crossing. Since its inception, the race has evolved into a strong competitive event attracting famous sailors and yachts including Icap Leopard, Morning Glory, Rambler, Broomstick and Parker Pen.

Despite the introduction of multi class and record setting entries, the race however remains true to its roots as and is open to cruising yachts and sailors.

The Cape2Rio Race 2023 will commence 2 January 2023

Fredrik Loof back on top as OK Dinghy World Ranking list restarts
After more than two years in stasis, the OK Dinghy World Ranking list is back, with a new overall leader. After briefly taking the No.1 spot in April 2019, Sweden's Fredrik Loof, is back on top, though without sailing any more events.

Fellow Swede, Thomas Hansson-Mild was No.1 when the Ranking List was put on hold in 2020 following the onset of the pandemic, but as neither of them have sailed any events so far in 2022, Loof takes the lead by virtue of higher scoring regattas in 2019.

Tomasz Gaj, from Poland stays in third, while there are very few other changes in the top 20.

The Ranking List was restarted in April 2022 with qualifying events at the Spring Cup in Medemblik, the French Nationals in La Rochelle and the Nordics in Varberg, Sweden.

The class is going through a period of extraordinary growth with individual membership increasing by around six per cent each year. In the past two years OKDIA has welcomed six new national associations to swell its membership to 18 member countries. During the same time more new boats have been built since any time since the 1970s and this trend shows no sign of slowing down.

Everything is going to be OK, again.

Raceboats Only 2002 60' Canting Keel Mini Maxi 'Wild Joe'. 440 000 EUR. Located in Croatia.

In 2018 WILD JOE underwent a complete refit, including the installation of a DSS foil. The DSS foil, coupled with a completely new sail inventory from Doyle Sails, supervised and developed by Stu Bannatyne, has meant that the performance of the yacht has been increased as much as 40%. Speed increases of 6 knots in moderate wind strengths are not uncommon and the thrill factor for the owner and crew is at a completely different level.

Raceboats Only MC100 Multihull. POA USD.

From the designer, Jason Ker of KER Yacht Design

“I’m passionate about designing boats that give their owners a wonderful on water experience. “I’m a sailor and if I know in my heart that I would have a fantastic time on board with my friends and family… then I know I’ve got the design right. I also get really excited about the best use of space, especially when you engineer a boat to be lighter. On a multihull a small weight increase has a big impact… so we’ve worked really hard to save weight. For example we’ve used carbon where it makes a difference.” “It’s wonderful to work with the shipwrights at McConaghy." “This team are vastly experienced in building catamarans which are much lighter than the average cruising cat… yet safe, secure and stiff.”

The MC range has Bureau Veritas classification for blue water sailing - the highest global rating.
