Galateia and Nadir Open PalmaVela With Decisive Victories
The 18th edition of Mallorca's showcase PalmaVela regatta opened with a blast of gusty NE'ly winds which produced spectacular, challenging conditions during the 28 miles coastal race which was sailed by the seven strong fleet of IRC-IMA Maxi yachts.

Revelling in the strong breezes on the Bay of Palma, the New York YC flagged Wally Cento Galateia made short work of the course, hitting boat speeds of 26 knots on the downwind leg, going on to win by 15 minutes and 32 seconds after just over two hours and 15 minutes of racing.

While Galateia took first blood in this first race of the season contested in the brisk conditions which have traditionally been their strongest suit, the Farr 100 footer Leopard 3 fought back hard after being over the start line to finish third across the finish line, correcting to second place ahead of Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones blue hulled Magic Carpet³.

BRITANNIA The Classic Boat Museum is celebrating a fantastic new edition as the AC75 foiling monohull 'BRITANNIA II', Britain's race boat skippered by Sir Ben Ainslie during the 36th America's Cup held in Auckland in 2021, has arrived at her new home in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

The 75ft yacht, with a top speed of over 50 knots, will join the museums eclectic mix of 89 boats which also includes the original BAR T1 (Ben Ainslie Racing) America's Cup foiling catamaran, used as a test bed for the 2017 Americas Cup in Bermuda, again gifted by Sir Ben and team to the museum in 2018.

Sir Ben Ainslie, Team principal, and Skipper of INEOS BRITANNIA added, 'Showcasing the historical legacy of the America's Cup is one of the goals of the Classic Boat Museum and we are delighted to again support them by donating BRITANNIA II, helping bring the America's Cup story to life and leaving a legacy for the generations to come.'

Cap-Martinique
Blue skies, summer temperatures and just the right amount of breeze. Conditions could not have been better for the start of the Cap-Martinique, which set sail at 15:00 hours local time on May 1 from La Trinite-sur-Mer (Morbihan, Brittany). The 62 competitors set a course for Fort-de-France (Martinique) where they're expected to cross the finish line from 20 May after what is forecast to be a speedy crossing.

This is a dream come true for these women and men, a little Route du Rhum of sorts within reach of amateurs. Indeed, this race is aimed at those for whom the sea is not their profession, forcing the competitors to put their jobs and careers on hold temporarily whilst they race across the Atlantic.

By the numbers:
0 plastic bottles permitted aboard
1 waste management plan
1 or 2: the number of crew aboard
9: the number of days the start village is open in La Trinite-sur-Mer
1 May: start date for everyone
22 May: likely ETA of the front runners
21 to 25: the number of days at sea for the majority of competitors
30 to 40-feet (around 10 to 12 metres) is the length of the boats
3,800 miles (7,000 km) to sail non-stop

Speed Freaks - OnCourse Ep 18
The speed story continues as the Swiss SP80 campaign based at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne gets closer to launching its radical speed machine. If it looked ambitious in the previous episode, the real version is wild.

But the Swiss aren't the only ones rolling a high speed weapon out of their shed - the Kiwis are getting close to doing the same in their attempt at setting a new land speed record. We find out why they think charging across a dried up salt lake is a good way to prepare for a defence of the America's Cup in 2024.

And with that in mind, Emirates Team New Zealand has also just launched its green powered foiling racer chaser, the first of a new breed of support boats that are now compulsory for Cup teams.

Plus, fifteen minutes, one million dollars, how the Season 2 closer for SailGP staged in SanFrancisco played out.

We also take a look at the latest America's Cup news. And on a different tack, we take a first taste of a fresh Oyster as PlanetSail is the first aboard the eagerly awaited Oyster 495.

Kevin Delprat is the 47th skipper to enter the GSC 2023/2024
WHAT Kevin Delprat is from Guadaloupe in the French Antilles. 29 years old at the time of writing, he is the youngest entry so far in the Global Solo Challenge 2023/2024. Despite his age, Kevin is one the most experience sailors to have signed up for the GSC so far with over 200.000 nautical miles sailed. As a teenager, when he knew nothing about sailing, he was given a 22 footer which he then crossed the Atlantic with.

Where does your passion for sailing come from?
Eleven years ago they gave me my first sailboat. I didn't know anything about it. It was a 22 footer and I went on to do a transat with it.

What lessons have you learned from sailing?
In case of a problem, the most beautiful tool on board is you.

What brought you to like single-handed sailing?
Think, struggle, look, hope.
