JJ Giltinan Sydney Harbour: After several days of bad weather which forced the temporary abandonment of three races, the Australian 18 Footers League was able to conduct the scheduled Race 7 of the 2022 JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff Championship on Sydney Harbour today, as well as Race 6, which could not be sailed yesterday.

Once again the Andoo team of Seve Jarvin, Matt Stenta and Sam Newton proved invincible as its record now extends to an unbeaten run of five straight victories from the five races sailed so far.

With just four more races still to be sailed before the regatta concludes on Sunday, Andoo has a commanding lead over the nearest rival, Tech2 (Jack Macartney, Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake) and looks to have a strangle-hold on the 2022 title.

The first of the two races produced a chaotic start with four skiffs capsizing on the start line and the action didn't stop over the two laps of the course in the 15-21 knot SSE wind.

In the second race of the day, Andoo had to come from behind before going on to a 46s victory over the Western Australian Black Swan team of Luke Paarkinson, Grant Rollerson and Luke Payne, with Yandoo (John Winning, Fang Warren and Mike Kennedy) a further 51s back in third place.

Tech2 finished fourth, followed by Rag & Famish Hotel and The Oak Double Bay-4 Pines.

Andoo has a total of five points in the championship, followed by Tech2 on 13, Rag & Famish Hotel (Harry Price, Josh McKnight and Harry Hall) on 28, Yandoo on 40, Balmain Slake and defending champion Smeg (Michael Coxon) on 43.

Scheduled races and re-sail of any abandoned races will be sailed over the next three days: March 11, 12 and 13

Sail Media's live-as-it-happens broadcast team will be on Sydney Harbour to capture all the action.

Bacardi Cup
Report from Wednesday's racing:
Mateusz Kusznierewicz/Bruno Prada hold onto the series lead but not the race win on day 3 at the 95th Bacardi Cup.

Spectacular conditions guaranteed a day of hiking and downwind fun for the fifty-eight boat Star Class fleet. After two days of domination by defending Bacardi Cup Champions Kusznierewicz/Prada, today saw new faces accelerate to front of fleet racing.

Biscayne Bay is always a race track that rewards confidence and switching on their afterburners to manage the fleet skilfully and break away to race glory were Jack Jennings (USA) and Pedro Trouche (BRA). They made their assault from the outset, sailing a perfect race to catch the leaders in a decisive move at the end of the first downwind, set the pace back upwind and surge ahead to victory.

Tom Kneen's Insights Are Pure Gold For ICRA Audience
After a couple of years of remote communication through pandemic times, Saturday's Irish Cruiser Racer Association AGM & Conference in the National YC had such an already-packed agenda - and in an inevitably socialising setup too - that getting the best value from having multiple majors winner Tom Kneen of Plymouth as star speaker seemed like a challenge too far.

Yet the affable Fastnet Race overall winner and RORC multiple champion was well up to optimising the time available. We asked a senior sailing administrator, who is also a successful offshore campaigner of more than three decades experience in trophy-winning to international level, to note his impressions. As he says himself, while he'd every intention of producing a simple list of bullet points, Tom's performance was a swift-running story in itself, so bullet points disappeared in face of a smooth-flowing narrative. Our seasoned observer, who prefers to remain anonymous, takes up the tale:

"Tom is quite a guy, and exudes a sparkle and smiling personality that I've not seen so completely anywhere before - he has charisma in spades. Not only a skilled skipper in every sense of the word, but a superb yet down-to-earth orator too, and he'll no doubt be in demand for after-dinner speaking once the word gets out. -- WM Nixon in Afloat

Aquarius II No, there was nothing wrong with Aquarius, the owners of the 56m (186ft) sailing yacht told Royal Huisman, the builder of the cruising ketch that was launched in 2018.

They just wanted a bigger, more performant version that would do well in both cruising and racing. This is what they had in mind: "A modern classical yacht with a clean, uncomplicated look. Not a pirate ship but a modern, fashionable, and chic looking yacht with performance, reliability, and quality. A sailor's yacht."

With those marching orders, Royal Huisman began work on Aquarius II, a 65m (212ft) version, along with project manager Godfrey Cray Maritime Ltd of New Zealand, Dykstra Naval Architects of the Netherlands, and British interior designer Mark Whiteley.

The delivery of Aquarius II is scheduled for 2024. The new, improved yacht has a carbon rig with integrated sail handling from Rondal, Royal Huisman's sister company. It has structured luff sails and a retractable keel for optimal stability under racing conditions.

The original Aquarius placed first in class in the 2019 St. Barths Regatta. The yacht, which can accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 suites, will return to that 'bucket' race this month.

Royal Huisman says Aquarius II retains the elegance and comfort of the original Aquarius but offer more space and volume. It will feature hybrid technologies for power generation and management, including intelligent energy use through 'peak-shaving.' Design and engineering preparations for Aquarius II are well advanced. Construction of the aluminum hull and superstructures is to begin this summer.

AEOLOS P30

10 months of development and another10 months of construction, the first AEOLOS P30 was launched on 22.1.2022 in Port Rashid. In the meantime, the trial phase has been completed and the first customers have been able to test the boat. The feedback is overwhelming: "no weaknesses in the design" - "impressive performance in light winds" - "the yacht of the future" - "the quality of the AEOLOS P30 hulls is convincing".

The AEOLOS Performance 30" (P30) is optimised for single and double shore sailing and performs in a wide range of offshore conditions up to category A. Easy transport and launching, small maintenance costs and much more keep running costs to a minimum and allow the racing sailor to concentrate on what makes successful: training and racing.

The aggressive full negative bow and pronounced chines blend into clean, streamlined lines designed to cut through the waves and eat up the miles. Aeolos lives by the philosophy of "Form follow Function", every line, every turn is based on technical requirements to combine minimum drag and maximum propulsion into a unique performance.

The exit angle of the stern lines when heeling is almost zero, which means perfect gliding properties. And with up to 34 degrees, the keel weight works very effectively - so you carry your sails much longer than usual. CFD calculations have shown that a single rudder and a close eye on the wetted area are best for short and medium distance racing in typical wind conditions around the world.
