New York Yacht Club pauses America's Cup involvement
The New York Yacht Club (NYYC) has announced that for the time being it is withdrawing from any active participation in the next America`s Cup series. The news was announced in a letter sent yesterday to members of the club and signed by its commodore, Christopher Culver.

* It's understood American Magic, led by Terry Hutchinson, still intend to be part of the next America's Cup and has found another as yet unnamed yacht club while retaining its two team principals.

New York Yacht Club Statement on 37th America's Cup
New York, N.Y. - Yesterday, in a letter to the Trustees of the New York Yacht Club, the Flag Officers of the Club announced the Club was pausing its pursuit of the America's Cup.

Quotes from New York Yacht Club Commodore Christopher J. Culver

"There are few private clubs that enjoy a stronger bond with a single competition than the New York Yacht Club does with the America's Cup, which we founded and held for 132 years. However, we ultimately have a responsibility to act in the best interests of our membership. Given the continued uncertainty regarding the 37th America's Cup, we have decided to pause our challenge for this edition."

"For more than six months, the New York Yacht Club along with other potential challengers have waited for clarity regarding the venue, timing and rules for the 37th America's Cup. Time is never on the side of new teams in this great contest, but at some point, we must recognize when there simply isn't enough of it left to build a competitive challenge."

"We will continue to advocate for what we believe to be essential changes to the structure of the America's Cup. This evolution will retain the competition's unmatched history and appeal while enabling it to compete on today's increasingly competitive modern sports landscape. Our passion for this competition remains as strong as ever."

"Stars+Stripes USA, led by members Mike Buckley and Taylor Canfield, will carry forward with their plans to challenge for the 37th America's Cup. We wish them the best of luck. They represent the future of American yachting."

Phew York
Since midway through the Challenger series in Auckland, things haven't gone swimmingly for the club. The elimination of their club steed, American Magic, after THAT capsize was a hammer-blow... they were going like Billy-O and were my tip, and many others' to ace the series and advance to the Match as the only syndicate capable of bettering the Italians and Team New Zealand on their day. Behind the scenes though Commodore Culver, sure in his standing, was agitating for change. The Cup community wasn't listening and didn't fancy a return to water-shifting lead-mines so Culver's stock began to fall faster than a meme share on the New York Stock Exchange.

Then post-Cup, the Commodore's manoeuvrings were again under the spotlight. First was the unfathomable decision to jettison the peerless Terry Hutchinson, a club member no less, and refuse to support American Magic's hierarchy going forward ahead of an unbelievable decision to back the nascent Stars & Stripes gang previously from the Long Beach Yacht Club who couldn't raise funds to compete in Auckland.

Then came a spurious ghost challenge issued from the Club in a seemingly vain attempt to usurp the Royal Yacht Squadron (Ltd) as Challenger of Record. The two top clubs in the world have a long and close friendship – this wasn't the done thing.

It was dismissed graciously and rather embarrassingly. Meanwhile rumours of New York rappers and mega-deals with Microsoft swirled and rich committee members postured and pulled imaginary strings. It has felt like amateur hour for a while and unbecoming of the status of the New York Yacht Club.

Full roster for 2022 Worrell 1000 Race
After the 2019 Worrell 1000 Reunion Race brought back the beach cat contest which held 20 editions from 1976 to 2002, the plan was for the 1000nm contest along the US southeast coast to return in 2021.

That's still the plan.

Starting at Hollywood Beach, FL, the Worrell 1000 has a full roster of 17 teams representing 6 countries, including returning champions Randy Smyth (6-time Worrell Champ) and Rod Waterhouse (4-time Worrell Champ).

Industry News
Triple Olympic medalist Mat Belcher is used to being at the top of his game and, in the wake of his Gold medal at Tokyo 2020, has just been appointed to join the Zhik Board of Directors.

The move comes following his win in the 470 Class with Will Ryan, which will go down in history as the last ever men's doubled-handed sailing event for the Class, before it comes a mixed event.

Mat has been involved with Zhik from it's early days, both as part of the Australian Sailing team and as a member of the Zhik Team. This long assocation with Zhik was instrumental in Mat winning Gold at London 2012 with Malcom Page, Silver in Rio with Will Ryan and Gold in Tokyo this year.

In addition to becoming 470 World Champion eight times, Mat was also named Rolex World Sailor of the Year in 2013 and has been a finalist for the award on five separate occasions.

Alex Zaininger, Chairman of Zhik adds "We are both excited and humbled to welcome Mat to our board and to our company. His tenacious desire to win and his deep experience in building high-performance teams will inspire and energise every member of the Zhik family. His insights into the further evolution of competitive sailing as well as other exciting water sports will help us innovate and grow far into the future. I am confident that his winning spirit will enable us to maintain our global leadership in this industry."

Groupe Beneteau together with Private financial group, PPF Group, has finalised its investment in Dream Yacht Group.

The joint venture will provide €60 million in new equity (60% from PPF and 40% by Groupe Beneteau).

Together, the two new shareholders will hold 87% of the capital. The remaining 13% is held by Loic Bonnet, founder and CEO of Dream Yacht Group, the management and investment fund NextStage, which is reinvesting €2.6 millions euros, and Fountaine-Pajot.

The injection of funds consolidates the Group's financial situation and strengthens its position in the fast-expanding sector of nautical tourism and boat rental.

The Group is also expanding into the area of boat ownership under rental management with the expectation that more than 265 new sailboats, 100% French made (70% catamarans and 30% monohulls) could join the Group's fleet in the next two years.

YYachts launches Y ON WATCH, a remote control for its models via smartphone or smartwatch. The shipyard is thus once again setting standards in the digitalization of yachting.

Is the yacht safely moored in bad weather? How full are the water tanks? And is the white wine actually well pre-cooled? With Y ON WATCH, the new and outstanding digital application from YYachts, owners can monitor their yacht from a distance and, above all, adjust it themselves - extremely conveniently via smartphone or smartwatch.

Y ON WATCH is a true multi-talent in which the app bundles numerous services and thus networks the yacht in a way that is familiar from a smart home on land, for example. Every function and every device on board can be operated remotely with Y ON WATCH. The aforementioned refrigerator can be activated when the yacht is being approached, as can the air conditioning or the lighting, of course.

This is made possible by combining the best cutting-edge technologies in the yachting industry: Y ON WATCH is the result of combining two, different BUS systems (CZone and NMAEA 2000) with YYachts' hardware. In addition, Y ON WATCH is connected to YYachts' AI cloud technology for data analysis.
