Solo Ultim World Tour Confirmed for 2023
The first ever single-handed race around the world in the giant Ultim multihulls will take place in 2023, 15 years after the vision was originally conceived. The race will be organised by OC Sport Pen Duick in collaboration with the Class Ultim 32/23 as well as the skippers and owners of the world's most highly advanced and exciting ocean-going race boats.

The concept of a solo, round the world tour for these multihulls was first envisioned more than 15 years ago. The creation of a race of this magnitude - which marks the start of an exciting new chapter in ocean sailing - has been made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the boat owners and their skippers, the Class and OC Sport Pen Duick's expertise in event management.

While the choice of the start and finish host city has not yet been decided, discussions are underway with the City of Brest, which has shown keen interest in hosting the event since the creation of the project.

The level of competition and the calibre of the skipper's is set to be exceptional, with formal commitments already confirmed by:

Actual (skipper, Yves Le Blevec)
Banque Populaire (skipper, Armel Le Cleac'h)
Brest Ultim Sailing (TBC skipper)
Maxi Edmond de Rothschild (skipper, Charles Caudrelier)
Sodebo (skipper, Thomas Coville)

AEGEAN 600: Atalanta II first to finish
Lavrio, Greece: At 14:10 local time today, Carlo Alessandro and Puri Egri's Atalanta II from Italy crossed the finish line at Cape Sounio six minutes short of exactly three days before they started the inaugural edition of the AEGEAN 600 on Sunday. The flat black 70-foot Farr/Felci design led the fleet nearly the entire race, sailing 653 actual miles on the 605-mile course for an average speed of just over 9.0 knots

The team on Atalanta II had an added challenge: the powered winches on the boat where inoperable, so the crew had to manually hoist and trim the sails without help from power or pedestals, not an easy task for a boat with a mast height of 30 meters.

Next in line to the finish is Preriklis Livas's and Nikos Lazos's Farr 52 Optimum 3 from Greece, whose ETA at Cape Sounio is about 7 hours behind Atalanta II. About 110 miles astern of Optimum 3 is the start of a cluster wave of boats about to round the rocks at Agathonissi for the long straight starboard tack reach west towards the gate at Mykonos and the finish on the Attican coast. This is led by Andrea Caracci's Pogo 50 Eros from France with Vitaly Chukanov's Russian team on his Oyster 46 Essex Girl not far behind, and then another cluster of five boats led by Pavlin Nadvorni's Corel 45 Espresso Martini from Bulgaria about 15 miles behind them.

The strong 20-25 knot Meltemi will decrease to 15 knots or so overnight, and shift slightly to the north from the northwest, before increasing again tomorrow in the daylight hours.

In corrected time standings, Atalanta II holds on to her lead in IRC scoring, while Optimum 3 currently has the lead in ORC scoring. Partial results can be found at aegean600.com/results and are regularly updated.

North Sails Performance
The single goal at North Sails Performance is to produce the best foul weather gear in the world. No compromise.

North Sails Performance started their design process by talking to the sailing community, those within North Sails and those at the very top of the sport; America's Cup, Ocean Race, and Vendee Globe sailors.

The Performance team quickly realized that a key mission was to stop sailors getting damp bums and knees - traditional gear wasn't leaking but sailors were complaining of a constantly damp backside. Why was that happening?

Performance focused on this issue. The traditional Cordura reinforcement patches hold a lot of water when they're wet. They also create a pocket between the foul weather gear and the patch which gets wet, stays wet, can't dry out. Worse, this pocket of water can cause reverse breathability when against a hot deck - pulling trapped water into the garment.

This is where Performance was able to leverage being part of the world's most advanced sail making firm with a track record for innovation.

They created 4DL™ - a new four-layer durable laminated reinforcement. Instead of sewing a patch on the outside they used a totally non-absorbent, highly-abrasion resistant patch. They bonded it to the GORE-TEX® fabric eliminating the water-retaining pocket and all its draw-backs completely.

The guys who have been testing them offshore for over 30-40,000 miles describe them as an absolute game-changer when it comes to comfort.

Cowes - Dinard - St Malo Race
The Royal Ocean Racing Club's Season's Points Championship continues this weekend with a spectacular fleet of over 130 boats of all shapes and sizes, racing from Cowes to St Malo. The 151 nautical mile race is steeped in history, pre-dating the Royal Ocean Racing Club by almost 20 years. The overall winner under IRC will be awarded the magnificent King Edward VII Cup, presented by the British Monarch in 1906. Two of the world's fastest multihulls will be racing in the MOCRA Class, Francis Joyon's IDEC and Yves Le Blevec's Actual Ultim 3. The race will feature a fleet of Class40s racing with the RORC under class rules.

Francis Joyon's IDEC is the reigning Jules Verne Trophy holder, having circumnavigated the world with his crew in 40 days 23 hours 30 minutes 30 seconds. Racing solo, Joyon has held all of the major offshore sailing records, including the fastest single-handed sailing circumnavigation from 2008 to 2016. Bernard Stamm will be on IDEC for the race

Whilst IDEC and Actual will be odds-on to take Multihull Line Honours, a total of five multihulls are entered for the Yachts and Yachting Cauldron for the best corrected time under the MOCRA rule.

The big boat division will race for the Lloyds of London Salver and will be favourites for the Sandison Memorial Salver for the first Monohull Yacht Home. Eric de Turkheim's French NMYD54 Teasing Machine will be in action for the second race of the championship, after third in class for the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Volvo 70 Telefonica Black, Open 50 Pegasus of Northumberland, and the Mylius 60 Lady First 3, will be hoping for strong downwind conditions for the race.

An optional return course has been organised by the RORC, especially for teams looking to gain additional race miles towards qualification for the 2021 Rolex Fastnet Race. Details can be found in the Sailing Instructions for the Cowes - Dinard - St Malo Race. All boats taking part in the race will gather off Cowes Parade from around 0900 on Friday 9th July. The full entry list and AIS tracking link can be found at yb.tl/stmalo2021and also via smartphones with the YB App.

Results will be available with live updates at www.rorc.org

J80 Worlds
Rungsted, Copenhagen, Denmark: A fleet of forty-six wildly enthusiastic J/80 aficionados are looking forward to what will also be the first major one-design championship to be held on the European continent since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic last March 2020. To say the environment will be electric will be undeniable, the sailors are hungry to get out on the water against some of the world's best sailors.

The J/80 class in Europe is famous for having some of the best competitors in the world, many of them Olympic Gold Medallists, World and European Champions in their own right in various classes. Despite the less than normal 100+ boat turn-out, it is a high-quality group that will be sailing in the waters on the choppy Baltic Sea.

Teams are represented from Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, and the USA. In short, a representative assembly of the top J/80 fleets from across the world. Certain to be featured at the top of the leaderboard should be leading Spanish teams, like Rayco Tabares' famous Princess Yaiza from the Canary Islands and Ignacio Camino's Solintal. They will be chased hard by Jacques Hubert's EOS Team from France, Peter Wenzel's Love Of Life from Germany, Patrick O'Neill's Mojo from Ireland, Paul Kerten's Baby J from The Netherlands, and a pirate's den of crews from Denmark.

The French dominate the 2021 Nacra 15 European Championships
Silvaplana, Switzerland: The meteo with the classical southwest Maloja wind pattern finally returned on Saturday after two days waiting with unstable wind conditions allowing the Championship to be sailed in perfect breeze putting in eight challenging races on the scoreboard.

The favorites did not disappoint. The French placed first, second and third in the open ranking. In these typical windy Silvaplana conditions, topping 18 knots, it was Clement Matineau and Thomas Proust, already bronze medalists from the Nacra 15 World Championships in 2018. The regularity of the male team from La Rochelle allowed them to win gold not only in the Open ranking but also the under 19 years ranking (U19). Only 3 points seperated them from the second team, Camille Rigaud and Julien Moutarde. The mixed team from brittany, Manolo Geslin Grimaud and Marion Declef, equal on points with second, only losing to last race countback in ultra-tight racing, take the Open bronze, and the U19 silver.

Switzerland's Nacra 15 champion Axel Grandjean and Noemie Fehlmann wins two out the three races on Sunday and climbs to fourth position overall and completes the U19 podium with a bronze.

Next up being the Nacra Championships in Gravedona, lake Como in August, followed by the Nacra 15 World Championships in La Grand Motte late October / early Nov and the World Sailing, Youth World Championships in Oman mid December.

Drheam-Cup / Grand Prix De France De Course Au Large Heading For 2022
The Drheam Cup/Grand Prix De France De Course Au Large is back! The multi-class race, first run in 2016 and organised by Jacques Civilise, will be held next year, from 13 to 23 July 2022.

Cherbourg-en-Cotentin will welcome a first-class fleet like in 2018, with the arrival of the 2nd edition and in 2020, for the start. 12 classes, crewed, double-handed and solo, are invited to take the start on Sunday 17 July. Three brand-new courses, suited to the different speeds of boats, will be held during this great race, to ensure that the fleet arrives in La Trinite-sur-Mer in a narrow time frame, after 3 to 4 days at sea.

All the details are now available in the notice of race, published on the official website.

Time now for the fourth edition that, like in 2018, has been selected by the organisation of the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, OC SPORT Pen Duick, as a qualification event for the single-handed trans-Atlantic race starting in November 2022. The DRHEAM-CUP will therefore be open to all classes of boats that can enter the single- handed trans-Atlantic race, the Ultimes, Imoca, Ocean Fifty, Class40, Rhum Monohulls and Rhum Multihulls (*). This promises a very high- level race, many single-handed sailors have made the Drheam-Cup / Grand Prix De France De Course Au LargE a compulsory event to qualify and/or train for the Route Du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe.

For classes that do not aim to compete in the solo transatlantic race, the Drheam-Cup / Grand Prix De France De Course Au Large will be open to crewed or double-handed entries, as usual.

The DC 600 course, 600 nautical miles (Figaro Beneteau 3, Multi 2000, IRC, Osiris habitables, Rhum Monohulls and Multihulls, Large Open Monohulls, Classic Yachts) will pass the South of England (West Shamble), the Isles of Scilly, Ushant and the Plateau de Rochebonne.

The DC 1000 course, 1000 nautical miles (Ocean Fifty, Imoca, Class 40) will head to the Fastnet after the Isles of Scilly, before heading to Ushant and the BXA buoy (Gironde estuary) and Quiberon Bay.

The DC 1500 course, 1500 nautical miles (Ultimes) that will take the largest boats to the Isle of Man, then the Fastnet, past Ushant, across the Bay of Biscay to Bilbao and a last run to La Trinite-sur-Mer.

Sailing World on Water
Well we've shown you CHARAL ONE going into the water after its winter refit, so while he's waiting for his new boat, Jeremie will sail CHARAL ONE, which has had a new bow fitted. The boat will then be sold during the second half of 2022.

The frustrations of a challenging year were blown away as a solid sailing breeze kicked in to help celebrate the opening day of the 25th anniversary of Superyacht Cup, Palma.

Near ideal conditions graced the Bay of Palma, delivering tight and exhilarating racing, on a 23 nautical mile course to the nine-strong fleet of superyachts.

The sunshine was bright and the breeze was light at the Block Island Race Week Presented by Margaritaville. After months of anticipation to get back out on the water, post-pandemic, the 158 teams were eager to go.

In Sydney, the MC38 Fleet had their third regatta on Pittwater, at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. It was like a bucket of ice had been dumped on the fleet but the racing was hot. The Hooligans won.

Last week we had Part 2 of the Sailing Squad who now are on the starting line, competing against 400 sailboats! It's time to put into practice what they have been taught over the last two days. The race across Lake Geneva is a real challenge. Physical, strategic and, above all, human.

WHAT Gunboat announces the Gunboat 72V, a new catamaran concept to complement the existing heritage series' currently in production (the Gunboat 68 and Gunboat 80) - the first catamaran with Gunboat performance and a flybridge. Design and engineering is the collaboration of Gunboat, VPLP, Christophe Chedal Anglay, and Patrick le Quement (the same team for the Gunboat 68) with a bespoke interior by Isabelle Racoupeau.

Designed with the enjoyment and pleasure of cruising in mind, with the knowledge that even the most turbo Gunboats may spend >90% of their time in cruise mode. This new range invites clients whose cruising plans were just out of reach of full high-octane Gunboat capabilities at the performance end of the spectrum, with priorities for family and coastal cruising.

The 72V will sail at wind speed and above from 8 kts true. The 72V is engineered with the historically highly accurate data modeling of VPLP. The 72V features no less than 5 distinct social areas: salon, aft cockpit, flybridge, foredeck lounge, aft beam lounge, and the choice of davits or a swim platform/aft beam lounge extension.

McConaghy are delighted to confirm that the first MC75 is now in build.

Designed to offer contemporary on-water living with an apartment-like style, the MC75 is lightweight, eco-friendly and, as with all models in the McConaghy Multihull range, fully customisable.

WHAT

In 20kts of wind at 110 true wind angle, the MC75 is predicted to reach 21kts of boat speed with a code zero sail.

The MC75 benefits from an interior design by m2atelier, in a new partnership between McConaghy and the leading Italian studio. m2atelier identified home comforts as a fundamental feature for the MC75 and, as a result, the interior takes on a particularly apartment-like feel with a more architectural personality.

This first MC75 features a huge saloon lounge with a dining area and walk-around bar, a spacious aft deck with sofas and al fresco dining space, and cushioned sun pads forward of the superstructure. There are five seaward-facing berths, all en suite, as well as a crew cabin – adjacent to the galley in the port hull.

MC75 hull #1 is due for delivery in autumn 2022.

The Infiniti 52 is the first racing yacht desiged, engineered and built around the Dynamic Stability System (DSS)

Infiniti Yachts is to launch its first production sailing yacht this summer. Designed by Infiniti Yachts, engineered by Gurit, and manufactured at Composite Builders in the US, the Infiniti 52 is the first racing yacht designed, engineered and built around the Dynamic Stability System.

WHAT

The proprietary DSS transverse foil provides performance without the risk and cost of more complex class-driven foil solutions. The system provides the Infiniti 52 significant righting moment, allowing the yacht to be sailed with a much smaller crew of 7-8.

The Infiniti 52 is also the first racing yacht to be designed, engineered, and built to take full advantage of Doyle Sails' cableless technology, and is the first production molded yacht to incorporate Harken air winches and Grand Prix deck gear.

The first boat will be commissioned in Holland, Michigan, and campaigned by Tulikettu Racing from Finland.

Hulls 1 and 2 of the Infiniti 52 are under currently construction at Composite Builders' facility in Holland, Michigan.
