Swan Sardinia Challenge
North Sardinia and the emerald waters of the Costa Smeralda delivered on their promise of perfect sailing conditions for the ClubSwan fleet assembled for the Swan Sardinia Challenge. Over three days of intense one-design racing, two days of perfect Mistral winds gave the 34 boats a vigorous work-out, putting them through their paces in up to 25 knots. It may only have been possible to complete seven of the 11 races, but the stiffer conditions were just what the crews had been hoping for ahead of the racing, which ran from 22-26 June.

Among the ClubSwan 50 boats, Marcus Brennecke's Hatari fought hard with Dmitry Rybolovlev and Andrey Konogorov's Sparti and Leonardo Ferragamo's Cuordileone. After the seven races, just four points stood between the German and the Russian boats, with Brennecke coming out on top with three bullets and two second places. Cuoridileone took third.

In the Swan 45 class, where five boats were competing, it was Italian Stefano Masi in Ulika who saw off a tough challenge from reigning world champion Lennard van Oeveren in Motions

Six boats made up the fleet of ClubSwan 42s. Spaniard Pedro Vaquer Comas took the top spot after an impressive display of three firsts and three second place finishes

Competition was perhaps at its fiercest among the 10-strong fleet of the new Club Swan 36 boat, with its striking reverse sheer and C-shaped foil. Just as in the Tuscany Challenge, G-Spot and Vitamina traded the lead throughout the regatta. It all came down to the final race, where Andrea Lacorte's Vitamina slumped to an uncharacteristic fourth place, while Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio's G-Spot held their nerve and finished first in the blustery conditions. Just one point separated Vitamina in second and third-placed boat Farstar, owned by Lorenzo Mondo, with the Pavesio brothers' Fra Martina also within striking range.

Racing was impossible on the final day of the regatta, because the wind failed to show up.

For the Swan Sardinia Challenge, Russia came out on top with 22 points, followed by Italy on 20 and Germany on 16. When these scores are added to The Nations League points from the Tuscany event, the overall rankings put Italy in first place, followed by Germany and a resurgent Russia. In all, there are 13 nations represented in The Nations League - 12 in Europe, plus the USA.

Ravenger wins Superyacht Cup Palma
A final day of sublime sailing conditions brought the Superyacht Cup Palma's landmark 25th anniversary regatta to a close on Saturday with a first time entrant stealing the headlines.

While broad smiles were in evidence across the entire fleet, the biggest perhaps were on the faces of the crews of the two class winners, Nilaya and Ravenger, with the latter taking the overall 2021 Superyacht Cup title at the Real Club Náutico de Palma prize-giving.

Making her SYC debut, the 43m Ravenger took a clean sweep of victories in Class B despite no racing pedigree and the crew having very limited training time together.

The long and sleek Nilaya also took three wins on her way to the top of Class A, only missing out on the overall prize as she was racing in a slightly smaller class.

Emphasising the closeness of the racing, Missy and Shamanna finished SYC tied on points, the former taking second place on the countback system, while the Swan 80 Umiko, the smallest yacht at Superyacht Cup Palma, had her best result of the regatta to claim a podium place in the last race.

And the final day was also memorable for Shamanna when the 35m Frers designed Nautor Swan won the special 'Spirit of the Event' award from North Sails at the prize-giving in memory of North Sails founder Lowell North. Baiurdo VI was also a winner, having produced the best race start at the event.

Superyacht Cup Palma 2022 will be held from June 22-25.

North Sails Performance
North Sails have launched their foul weather gear with a clear intention to disrupt the performance gear market. Go back sixty years and even Lowell North - the pioneering aerospace engineer who founded North Sails in 1957 - could not have foreseen the incredible progress, the sophistication of North Sails that now dominates the world's racing and cruising fleets.

This same rigorously innovative approach has now been applied to foul weather gear. Starting from scratch, albeit with a considerable depth of industry knowledge, has allowed unconstrained thinking that has resulted in the best possible combination of new materials and garment design.

Nigel Musto worked with North's talented team tasked with the sole the aim of creating the world's best marine clothing bar none. The result is four ranges of technically advanced clothing that are lightweight, hardwearing and offer unrivalled performance.

The GORE-TEX® Pro Ocean line offers the most breathable, waterproof and durable smocks and salopettes. Those who compete in the classic 600-mile offshore races or cruise serious distances will be well served by the GORE-TEX® Pro Offshore range.

Choices widen further in the GORE-TEX® Pro Inshore line, which includes smocks, a jacket and an innovative hybrid product that combines the best attributes of both, including a full front zip and an effective neck seal.

The GP Aero line prioritises stretch and lightweight for inshore high-performance racing. For this range the design team incorporated lessons learned from cycling and other high intensity sports.

Leary Insurance Group Sovereign's Cup at Kinsale
Another race win and a careful third place for Mike and Ritchie Evans' J99 Snapshot from Howth was enough to convincingly win the Division 1 title and overall trophy at the O'Leary Insurance Group Sovereign's Cup at Kinsale on Saturday while ReavraToo, skippered by Stephen Lysaght from the host club won the Portcullis trophy under ECHO handicap.

The four day series was a closely matched affair in all of the 12 divisions with nothing certain about the outcome of the event that awards the overall Sovereign's Cup for best performance under the international IRC system while best boat under the ECHO handicap system receives the Portcullis Trophy.

The Evans brothers competed in their new J99 Snapshot as one of their first major regattas and faced stiff competition, primarily from clubmates Richard Colwell and John Murphys' Outrajeous. However, a sixth place followed by a disqualification for early starting in the final saw their main challenger drop from contention and Kinsale's Finbarr O'Regan on Artful Dodger took second place in the class.

However, it was the consistency of Snapshot's performance across the eight race series that ended with a nine-point winning margin in the 14-boat division that earned their claim to the Sovereign's Cup this year.

Stephen Lysaght's ReavraToo from Kinsale was awarded the Portcullis Trophy for best performance under the ECHO Handicap system for winning four out of the eight races in Division 2. The Elan 333 finished the series with a four point lead over second placed Kieran Collins' Coracle VI from the Royal Cork Yacht Club who ironically won that class with four race wins under the IRC system.

The Royal Cork battle for supremacy of Class 3 saw David Lane's Ya Gotta Wanna again swap places with Supernova owned by Dave O'Regan with Denise Phelan and Tony Donworth to win the class under IRC after four days of cat and mouse.

Fair Winds and Following Seas for Xara:De Guingand Bowl Race
The Royal Ocean Racing Club's De Guingand Bowl Race started in light conditions, with the wind speed increasing later in the race to about 15 knots and veering south. The top three boats overall were all racing in IRC Four. The overall winner was Jonathan Rolls' classic S&S Swan 38 Xara. Second overall was Chris Choules Sigma 38 With Alacrity. French JPK 10.10 Gioia, sailed by Etienne Pinteaux, was third. In IRC Zero, David Collins Botin IRC 52 Tala took Line Honours for the race.

Xara has a long history in the Fastnet Race, including surviving the tragic 1979 edition. In recent years, under the ownership of Jonathan Rolls, Xara has achieved the distinction of achieving Best Swan Overall in the 2017 and 2019 Rolex Fastnet Race.

The 114nm race started off the Squadron Line to the east on a favourable tide. A light north easterly breeze freshened as the fleet passed Portsmouth. Teams eased sails as they bore away south into the English Channel, where a cross-tide came into the strategy. Once past a virtual line of latitude, the RORC fleet hardened up for a 30 mile beat to Shoreham Outfall. A downwind leg back towards the Solent, following the setting sun, was followed by a manoeuvre-testing chicane, before finishing in the Solent at Mother Bank.

IRC ONE
Ed Fishwick's GP42 Redshift took line honours and the class win from Rob Bottomley's Mat 12 Sailplane. David Cummins' Ker 39 Rumbleflurg, sailed by Harry Bradley, was just 77 seconds behind Sailplane after IRC time correction.

IRC TWO
Ross Applebey's Oyster 48 Scarlet Oyster was the class winner by just over three minutes after IRC time correction. The current overall leader for the RORC Season's Points Championship, Thomas Kneen's JPK 1180 Sunrise, was second in class. Ed Bell's JPK 1180 Dawn Treader was third in class for the race. Capstan Sailing's Skylander, skippered by Yuri Fadeev, won the battle of the First 40s, and placed fourth in class.

IRC THREE
James Harayda's Sun Fast 3300 Gentoo, racing Two-Handed with Dee Caffari, was the class winner. Second was the full crew of the Army Sailing Association, racing Sun Fast 3600 Fujitsu British Soldier and skippered by Henry Foster. Rob Craigie's Sun Fast 3600 Bellino, racing Two-Handed with Deb Fish, was third.

IRC TWO-HANDED
20 teams entered racing in IRC Two-Handed, the majority racing in IRC Three and Four. Richard Palmer's JPK 10.10 Jangada chalked up another narrow victory. Sailing with Jeremy Waitt, Jangada beat Gentoo by 83 seconds after IRC time correction. Bellino was third. All three of these teams have now completed three races in the RORC Season's Points Championship, with less than 19 points separating them. -- Louay Habib

The heart of the matter - 11th Hour Racing
11th Hour Racing But where do we start, is the question often heard when a new sustainability initiative is discussed...

Sustainability is good for business. Customers expect it and so does the workforce, but where do you even start? It's just got a whole lot easier with the launch of a free-to-use Sustainability Toolbox designed specifically for the marine and sports sectors by 11th Hour Racing Team.

'We have a team working full time to develop solutions on how to innovate and build boats in the most sustainable way,' says 11th Hour Racing Team's skipper, Charlie Enright. 'We're sharing this knowledge and experience by publishing The Toolbox to make the sustainable transition as accessible to as wide an audience as possible. '

Until now, scoping out, setting up and implementing a sustainable business strategy has been a big challenge even for large corporations with deep pockets and in-house sustainability teams.

Landsail Tyres J-Cup
The final day's racing at the Landsail Tyres J-Cup was blessed with champagne conditions for the 50 teams at the annual J/Boats regatta in the UK, which has been run since 2000. The three day regatta (24-26 June) provides one design classes and mixed classes with highly competitive racing, but the J-Cup is more than a regatta. It is a family gathering that has been part of the history of J/Boats for 22 years.

Congratulations to Day Three race winners. Robin Stevenson J/92s Upstart, Becky Walford's J/92 Brenda's J, Jonnie Goodwin's J/70 RYS, Paul Ward's J/70 Eat Sleep J Repeat, Nick Phillips J/70 Chaotic, Charles Thompson's J/70 Brutus II, Michael and Sarah Wallis' J/122E Jahmali, David Richards' J/109 Jumping Jellyfish, Neil MacLachlan's J/109 Jai Ho, Tony and Sally Mack's J/111 McFly and Chris Jones & Louise Makin's J/111 Journeymaker II.

In IRC One, Michael and Sarah Wallis' J/122E Jahmali won all three races on the final day to win the class. Johnny Cooper's J/112E Jooped had been leading the regatta for two days but finished the regatta in second. Mark Stevens' J/105 Jacana finished third in class, just two points ahead of Vernon Bradley's J/99 BlackJack.

Michael and Sarah Wallis Jahmali is a previous winner of the J-Cup with their J/109 in 2014. The couple have been long friends of the founders of Key Yachting, Paul and Marie Claude Heys. Jahmali's stunning 2021 performance in their J/122E, was the lowest points score of any team, and coupled with their spirit, Jahmali was awarded the J-Cup. Michael Wallis, full of emotion, spoke at the Prize Giving.

In Malcesine, for Andrea Racchelli's crew it all seemed easy: six bullets out of nine races and fifteen points margin on the reigning champions of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series, German White Room of Michael Tarabochia with Luis Tarabochia at the helm (2-10), that make a great job by capitalizing the excellent results scored on the opening day and confirmed themselves as second overall and winner of the Corinthian division, in front of an always fighting Italian Arkanoe by Montura of Sergio Caramel (3-6), by now consolidated reality of this competitive one-design class.

Today's races, held with some fresh Peler, did not cause particular shuffle in the general classification: Hungarian Seven_Five_Nine (12-2) by Akos Csolto and Italian Melgina (13-1) by Paolo Brescia, winner of the final round, respectively finished fourth and third of the Corinthians behind Arkanoe by Montura; and Melgina fifth overall, positions they already occupied after Day 2.

Interlodge Team Lined Up To Rejoin The 52 Super Series
After an absence of four years, one of the circuit's most popular and committed couples - Austin and Gwen Fragomen - plan to return to the 52 SUPER SERIES this season with their Interlodge team and their fifth TP52 since they started grand prix racing in 2007.

The New York Yacht Club members, whose programme is based out of Newport RI seized the opportunity to re-join the 52 SUPER SERIES when they purchased the well proven, successful 2018 boat Azzurra, which is in fact the defending series-winning boat, the victors of the 2019 52 SUPER SERIES.

The team is looking forward to the opening event of the 2021 season, the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week & TP52 20th Anniversary Invitational in Mallorca. They plan to arrive early, the new Interlodge 7 already being on the island ready for an extended training programme leading into the regatta.

Matthews says the Interlodge 7 team will be made up of a lot of the guys who have been racing on the Interlodge in the USA, plus a few proven 52 SUPER SERIES guys:

"Jono Swain is joining us, Andy Escourt, Rod Dawson has been with us for eight years, Dave Armitage. We have a few pieces to put in place too. We have a lot of familiar faces who have sailed with us on at least one boat."

Frenchman Louis Robein from Lyon is the 24th entry in the GSC
Louis Robein After completing 8 Solitaires du Figaro and a solo crossing of the Atlantic, Lyon-born Louis Robein is very motivated to move on to the next stage, a single-handed non-stop circumnavigation. The Global Solo Challenge provides him with the context for this new challenge. Louis is the 24th entry in the Global Solo Challenge and there are many other skippers who are seriously interested in participating, the organization expects the number of entries to grow further in the coming months.

During a crewed Atlantic crossing, I told myself that I could take the next step: sailing single-handed. So I took part in La Solitaire du Figaro to take advantage of the safety of the race and to get advice from other skippers. Following this great experience, I persevered in the following years, improving with each edition and then crossing the Atlantic single-handed.

When I saw that it was a relatively affordable regatta and that the boat I have had for 10 years is would be allowed, I became interested in the event. Taking on a new challenge after doing 8 Solitaire du Figaro and crossing the Atlantic solo motivates me a lot to take the next step: a singe-handed circumnavigation knowing that it will be a very beautiful adventure.
