RORC IRC Two-Handed Autumn Series
Richard Palmer's JPK 10.10 Jangada, raced by Jeremy Waitt and Shirley Robertson, won the final race of the Royal Ocean Racing Club's 2-H Autumn Series to take overall victory in the three-race series. Rob Craigie & Deb Fish's Sun Fast 3600 Bellino was series and race runner-up. In third place for the series was Daniel Jones' Sun Fast 3300 Wild Pilgrim. In third place for the final race was Nigel Goodhew's Sun Fast 3200 Cora, sailed by Tim Goodhew & Kelvin Matthews.
The final race of the Royal Ocean Racing Club's 2-H Autumn Series was a 103nm overnight race. Starting from the Squadron Line, the fleet headed east out of the Solent on a fast reaching angle to a virtual waypoint off Worthing. A return leg followed with a beat to Winner Buoy and then around the South of the Isle of Wight passed St Catherine's Point. Close-hauled in big breeze it was a bumpy ride up to The Needles Fairway Buoy. The fleet came off the breeze, to race through Hurst Narrows, and onto the finish off the RORC buoy in the Central Solent.
"It has been great fun racing with Jeremy (Waitt) and a big thank you to Richard Palmer for letting us race Jangada," commented Shirley Robertson. "Jeremy has done so much two-handed racing, he is a really wise head on the boat. I have learnt a lot about the importance of risk management, including concentrating on the important decisions to come. I have to say a massive thanks to RORC. The double handed class have had the best racing out of anyone; the racing has been really varied. Well done to the RORC for giving us a great summer, the enthusiasm from the club and the sailors has been exceptional." -- Louay Habib
Barcolana 52 Presented By Generali: Regatta Canceled
Trieste, Italy: Due to the marine weather conditions present in the Gulf of Trieste, the Race Committee, on the basis of the indications of the Harbor Master's Office and after consulting the organizing company, evaluated the weather alert issued by the Civil Protection and the weather forecasts issued by the Osmer today, Sunday 11 October, he decided to cancel the Autumn Cup - Barcolana 52 presented by Generali.
The decision was made this morning at 7 am, given the evolution of the weather according to the forecast of strong Bora.
At 7, during the briefing at the Port Authority, the choice was made to cancel the regatta. "As we have had the opportunity to recall several times in recent weeks - commented the president Gialuz - last July our Sandro Chersi, one of the inspiring fathers of the regatta, a great expert in weather forecasts, left us. Here, we dedicate this demanding choice to him because we know he would have approved and we close this edition with his words: the good sailor saves the boat and his crew in the storm, the excellent sailor has chosen not to go out, and from the window he looks the good sailor at sea, as he fights to save the boat and the crew. Sandro, our goal is to be excellent sailors, as you have taught us."

18 Skiffs Spring Championship, Race 1

Sydney Harbour: The 2020-2021 18ft Skiff Racing Season began on Sydney Harbour today when the Australian 18 Footers League conducted Race 1 of the annual Spring Championship series.
A fleet of 17 teams lined up for the start in a 12-15 knot breeze over the North-East 3-buoys course, with most teams electing to use their bigger #1 rigs for the day.
It might have been a new season but it was a familiar sight as two of last season's top contenders battled it out for victory.
The Oak Double Bay-4 Pines team of Aron Everett, Courtney Mahar and Charlie Gundy showed it had lost none of the 2019-2020 Season form with a 17s win over the current Australian champion tech2 team of Jack Macartney, Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake.
The rookie Shaw & Partners Financial Services team of Jim Colley, Sam Phillips and Shaun Connor showed that they will be a very competitive combination after finishing in third place today, 3m50s behind tech2.
Another rookie team led by Tom Cunich finished fourth in Vintec, followed by Smeg (Dave O'Connor) and Winning Group, skippered by Seve Jarvin.
Race 2 of the seven-race Spring Championship series will be conducted next Sunday, October 18.

America's Cup - New Arrivals As the clock counts down towards the first race with the radical new AC75s, the Brits and Italians fly in their yet to be tested race boats. American Magic have their second boat in Auckland already and are working to be the first float. Meanwhile the Kiwis continue to scorch around their home patch.

Double-Handed Offshore Racing Discipline to be Represented by New Organisation
A new organisation has been founded to represent the emerging discipline of doublehanded offshore racing, called the 'Offshore Doubles Association'.
The association has attracted a number of key offshore sailors and administrators including former Volvo Ocean Race chief, Knut Frostad of Norway as an advisor.
The association will launch officially on October 9th.
The association says its aim is to create a fair and robust ecosystem to build on the fastest-growing segment of offshore sailing. According to its website, 'the association is dedicated to helping our members (sailors) and partners (Events, Boats, Suppliers and Sponsors) succeed in their goals and to building the community as a whole'.
The new association quickly follows the announcement of the new Olympic Offshore Mixed Doubles Event for Paris 2024.
Proponents say the new event is an exciting development for the sport, showcasing the thrill and hardship of day and night sailing offshore with 24/7 media coverage.
Sutherland prevails in big breeze to win 2020 Yachting Developments NZMRC
Graeme Sutherland, Sam Meech, Logan Sutherland, and Micah Wilkinson have prevailed in very breezy conditions to win the 2020 Yachting Developments New Zealand Match Racing Championship at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
With sixteen teams taking part this year, the fleet was split into two pools, with Pool A racing a round robin on Thursday, followed by Pool B on Friday. Reuben Corbett topped Pool A after going unbeaten with seven wins, and he was closely followed by Leonard Takahashi who had six. Nick Egnot-Johnson and his RNZYS Performance Programme Knots Racing Team were the unbeaten team in Pool B, with Sutherland close behind on six wins.
After the completion of the two round robins, competitors were then ranked for the Super Sixteen Knockout Round on Saturday. The breeze was cranking at around twenty to twenty-five knots, as it did for the majority of the regatta, and the super 16 matchups didn't disappoint with plenty of action, fast downwind sailing, and lots of spectacular wipeouts. However, there were no upsets and the top eight ranked competitors all made it through to the Quarterfinals.
Finals day on Sunday lived up to the hype, with the breeze again pounding in from the North East, allowing for some superb match racing conditions.

Nefeli secures wins Melges 24 Trieste regatta
Trieste, Italy - After one more race at the final event of the 2020 Melges 24 European Sailing Series in Trieste, Italy, Peter Karrie's team Nefeli, from Germany, has secured the win of the regatta. The race win went to Michele Paoletti's Stramabapapa, local team from Trieste. Being second on the podium in Trieste and also best Corinthian team, Michael Tarabochia's team White Room, from Germany, confirmed the victory of the 2020 Melges 24 European Sailing Series, both in overall ranking as well as in the Corinthian division.
The final day of the Melges 24 regatta in Trieste did not favor the sailors nor organizers much again. One race only was sailed due to increasing wind, but moreover, because of the shape of the waves and swell - to avoid any damages on the final day of the regatta. Lots of credit goes to the Race Committee of the Trieste Society of Sea Sports led by Stefano La Bella, who pushed to deliver four races on the first day of the regatta, considering the weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday, when, indeed, was possible to add only two more races to the entire series.
Today's only race belonged to Italy. Michele Paoletti's Strambapapa ITA689, pleased his home town taking a bullet ahead of other Italian team Arkanoe by Montura ITA809 of Sergio Caramel crossing the finish line second. Italians were followed by the event leader, Peter Karrie's Nefeli, from Germany, who sailed a good race for third to secure the win of the regatta, tied on 11 points with Strambapapa.

White Room is the winner of the 2020 Melges 24 European Sailing Series
After four regattas with 29 single races sailed and seven discards, the winner of the 2020 Melges 24 European Sailing Series, both in overall ranking and Corinthian division, is White Room of Michael Tarabochia, with Luis Tarabochia steering. White Room attended all events of the series - in Torbole, Italy; on Attersee, Austria; in Portoroz, Slovenia and in Trieste, Italy. German team won regatta on Attersee, were 7th in Torbole and 3rd in Portoroz and Trieste.

RNLI Volunteer John Coyle of Galway Recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours
Galway man John Coyle has been recognised by the Queen in the Birthday Honours list for his role in helping the RNLI in its work to save lives at sea. John is to receive an OBE. A former Trustee of the RNLI and Chair of the RNLI's Council in Ireland, John has been to the forefront of lifesaving on the island of Ireland.
His relationship with the RNLI was a result of a lifelong interest in yachting and began through fundraising for the lifeboats on the west coast of Ireland before joining the Irish Council of the RNLI. John was then invited to join the UK Council of The RNLI before becoming a Trustee of the charity. His direct involvement with the RNLI spans some thirty-five years and continues to this day.
In June 2019, he was appointed a Knight of the Sovereign Order of Malta and now he is to receive on OBE for his work with the charity.
