Epilogue, tomorrow morning at breakfast time
Francis Joyon and the crew of the IDEC SPORT maxi trimaran are expected to cross the finishing line for the Tea Route between Hong Kong and London Wednesday morning between 7 and 9 a.m. After 32 days at sea, and having sailed almost 16,000 miles out on the water averaging almost 21 knots, Joyon and his crew are set to shatter the record held since 2018 by the Italian crew of the trimaran Maserati skippered by Giovanni Soldini by over four days. The reference time they set was 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 12 seconds
But before celebrating their victory as they pass under the QE II Bridge over the Thames, Francis and his men are going to have to deal with a series of difficulties today and tonight, starting with the fact that the wind has veered due west forcing them to tack downwind up and down across the Channel sometimes getting close to the coast of Cornwall and Southern England and sometimes approaching the French coast.
With this Tea Route record, Francis will be bringing to an end an amazing voyage, which began on 19th October 2019, when he set sail from Port Louis in Brittany in the framework of the IDEC SPORT ASIAN TOUR, which has seen the record-breaker sail more than half way around the world and over the past four and a half months add four new records or reference times to his long list of achievements.
Field of 16 Slated For Celebratory King Edward VII Gold Cup

The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club's 70th Gold Cup for the King Edward VII trophy returns to its traditional format this year with a field of 16 crews plotting to win the venerable trophy and the lion's share of the $100,000 prize purse.
Scheduled May 11-16, the King Edward VII Gold Cup is the second World Championship-level event of the World Match Racing Tour's 2020 calendar. Such designation affords competitors greater points on the world tour leader-board and their qualification towards the WMRT Grand Final.
For the first time since 2015 the King Edward VII Gold Cup will feature a supersize 16-team format. The past two events in 2018 and '19 featured 12 teams as the regatta reestablished its place on the calendar after the destination island hosted the America's Cup in 2017.
Among the 16 entrants are three past Gold Cup champions, including reigning champion Ian Williams (Lymington, England), two all-women crews, including the World No. 1 and No. 2-ranked skippers, and three dynamite youth crews under 25 years of age, including the reigning Youth World champion.

18ft Skiffs Australian Championship, Races 6 & 7

Sydney Harbour: Two spectacular wins by Jack Macartney, Charlie Wyatt and Trent Barnabas on Tech2 in Races 6 and 7 of the Australian 18ft Skiff Championship on Sydney Harbour today has given the team a nine points lead in the series with just two more races to be contested.
The Tech2 team had to come from behind in both races but showed outstanding crew work over the entire day and thoroughly deserved their victories and lead in the championship.
Pointscores to date have Tech2 on 16 points, followed by Finport Finance on 25, The Oak Double Bay-4 Pines on 34, Shaw & Partners Financial Services on 35, Noakesailing 37, and Appliancesonline.com.au on 41.
A steady SE wind provided good racing conditions on the harbour and spectators weren't disappointed with the action and spectacular capsizes.
Finport Finance (Keagan York) went into the day as championship leader but a series of mishaps over the day's racing saw the team lose the lead with placings of 10th and 4th in the two races.
Race 8 of the Australian Championship will be sailed next Sunday.
Spectators can see all the teams while they are rigging, then follow the racing on board the club's spectator ferry, which leaves Double Bay Wharf, alongside the rigging area, at 2pm.

Byford and Hudson crowned 2020 Sydney 38 OD Australian Championship

Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) members, Peter Byford and David Hudson, have been crowned the 2020 Sydney 38 One-Design Australian Champions following a three-day battle over nine races at Pittwater in Sydney.
Class President Byford and Hudson, co-owners of Conspiracy, reeled off four wins, interspersed with a trio of second places and a third to outclass the opposition. They were relentless in their pursuit of carting off their first Sydney 38 One Design Australian Championship trophy.
The two finished third at the 2018 Australians and led the 2019 Championship, but let Outlaw slip through the net and ultimately finished second. No such mistake this time, they stayed focussed and resilient throughout, despite a couple of breakages and some very close finishes, with only seconds separating the top three at times.
Conspiracy defeated nearest rival, Middle Harbour Yacht Club's Advanced Philosophy (Peter Sorensen), by an 11-point margin. Third placed Richard Williams (Calibre, CYCA) was a further six points down the leaderboard at the end of the nine-race no-drop Championship.
Sorensen won Race 6, while Williams took out Races 1 and 4 and Greg and Wade Croak's Challenge (Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto) Race 7 to finish fourth on countback to Calibre. However, none could put a dent in Conspiracy's performance.
Special awards were given in recognition of various efforts. Thirlmere (Mike Logan, CYCA) received Most Improved. Tony Levett (TSA Management, MHYC), a 16-year member of class and a big supporter of it, received Longest Serving Contribution. Lisa Callaghan and Stephen Teudt (Mondo) were given the Spirit of the Class award.
This is 20 years of Sydney 38 racing. The first event was at Hogsbreath Airlie Beach Race Week, where Rosemary Merrington raced on Blowfly and Learne Dooley on The Business. Denmark SailGP Team Launches Boat In Sydney

Sydney, Australia: The Denmark SailGP Team, presented by ROCKWOOL, unveiled its supercharged F50 catamaran in Sydney on Tuesday, as preparations for the first SailGP event of Season 2 gather pace.
The Danish crew will join six other nations on the start line on 28-29 February as the adrenaline-filled, global racing championship kicks off for 2020 - and as the boat launched in Australia, the team revealed a special guest as part of the eye-catching boat livery.
The red and white flying catamaran features an iconic design on the 24-metre wingsail - an image of Danish national symbol and mythological warrior Holger Danske - ensuring that the boat will turn heads as the team starts its training for the opening race in Sydney at the end of the month.
Holger Danske, also known as Ogier The Dane, is a famous Danish knight. According to Danish folklore, he sits waiting in the dark cellar of Kronborg Castle - and, when called upon, will return to defend his country's honour.
Radial and RS:X conclude the Aussie World Championship season
The Olympic classes World Championship season in Australia concludes with the RS:X and Radial Worlds from Friday 21 February on Port Phillip Bay.
First up is the women's Radial World Championship with the first races on Sunday 23 February, finishing on Friday 28 February.
A total of 116 competitors are entered for the event, hosted by the Sandringham Yacht Club, Melbourne.
Just one entry from Britain, Alison Young, who will represent Britain at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Young was Radial World Champion in 2016.
The RS:X men and women's World Championships, from Tuesday 25 to Fri 28 Feb, hosted by the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club, will have a total of 122 competitors - 75 men and 47 women.
The British Sailing Team has three men and two women entered, including both Team GB Olympic 2020 selections: Tom Squires in the men and Emma Wilson in the women.
In addition Saskia Sills is entered in the women's championship, and Andy Brown and Kieran Holmes-Martin in the men's championship.
The three men took part in the earlier Sail Melbourne RS:X event with Tom Squires winning ahead of Yoav Omer of Israel with third Makoto Tomizawa of Japan.
Sailing for All - the 1950s: a short history of yacht design

Although the post-war period was a time of scarcity - food rationing in the UK continued until 1954 - it was also a period of great optimism. There was more social mobility than ever before and many of the new technologies that had been developed for the war effort were now available for civilian use. This optimism meant the prospect of owning a boat was brought to a far wider audience than had ever previously been possible.
This was also a time at which the mainstream media was strongly promoting boating. The Mirror, Express and Daily Mail, for example, all sponsored boat shows or small boat designs, while the Sunday Times and Observer would later sponsor trans-ocean solo races.
In addition, new materials that had originally been developed for aircraft construction were now available for boat building. These included plywood and fibreglass, as well as techniques such as hot moulded timber. Hamble-based Fairey Marine, the company that was spun out of Fairey Aviation after the end of the war, pioneered this technique starting with the Uffa Fox-designed 12ft Firefly dinghy in the late 1940s.

Fife Yachts Under the Hammer

Two famous yachts built in Fairlie's boatbuilding glory days will go under the hammer at a prestigious auction in France later this month.
The Mariquita, pictured, and the Mariska were both designed and built to great acclaim by the renowned William Fife III in his Bay Street yard in 1908 and 1911 respectively.
Amazingly both vessels are still winning major sailing races on the continent and are expected to change hands for handsome sums.
Mariska is expected to sell for between £600,000 and £1m while Mariquita is expected to sell for between £750,000 and £1.4m.
High quality restoration work has taken place on both vessels and their sale comes as the village prepares for the fifth Fife Regatta in June.
Mariquita last raced at the Fife Regatta in Fairlie back in 2008.
At 77ft, Mariska is the shorter of the two racing yachts, which were cutting edge design at the time of their construction. Her first owner, AK Stothert, was considered to be one of the best yachtsmen of Edwardian times.
It want through a two-and-a-half year restoration project involving 25,000 man hours before returning to competitive sailing in 2009.
