EFG Sailing Arabia - Finish in Muscat
After 12 days and four locations along more than 1,500KM of pristine Omani coastline, the 2020 EFG Sailing Arabia - The Tour will come down to the fifth and final stage in Muscat on 7-8 February.
The title looks as if it is team EFG Bank's to lose after another impressive performance in Stage 4 in Sur, Oman. EFG Bank is yet to lose the top spot on the overall leaderboard and forged a six-point gap on their closest rivals, Groupe Atlantic, after winning four out of the five stadium races held on day 2 in Sur.
It is the fight for second place that is shaping up to be one of the most memorable stories of the tenth edition of EFG Sailing Arabia - The Tour. The gap between the second-placed Groupe Atlantic and the third-ranked DB Schenker has reduced to just five points with only two days of racing remaining.
A total of eight teams, made up of sailors from France, Switzerland, Spain, and Oman, are taking part in the 2020 EFG Sailing Arabia - The Tour. The matched fleet of DIAM24s, the same boats used in the Tour Voile, have been racing in four distinct locations across Oman: Salalah, the sub-tropical home of Frankincense; the port city and shipping hub of Duqm; the picturesque and wildlife haven in Masirah Island; and the ancient ship-building city of Sur.
Stage 5 of the 2020 EFG Sailing Arabia - The Tour will be held at Al Mouj Marina in Muscat, with trophy presentation to be held on Saturday 8 February at Muscat International Airport.
The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron hosted one of Australia's most prestigious match racing events, the Hardy Cup, as an Under 25 World Sailing Grade 3 International Event.
The Hardy Cup was donated by Sir James Hardy (Event Patron), an America's Cup winner, World Champion, Olympic yachtsman, and prominent RSYS member to promote the match racing helming skills and tactical skills of young sailors.
The racing for the Hardy Cup was held on the magnificent Sydney Harbour set with the backdrop of the world-famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
The event was sailed in the Club's fleet of Elliott 7s yachts, has received entries from across Australia and around the world. These include Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and USA.

36th Primo Cup - Trophee Credit Suisse
Since 1985, top European one-design sailors are to be found in Monaco at the beginning of February to compete in this first event on the Mediterranean circuit. With 800 sailors from 15 nationalities taking part, the event is unusual in that top European teams are competing on the same race area as enthusiastic amateurs.

Caribbean Multihull Challenge
They are some of the most radical, cutting-edge boats on the planet, capable of slashing records and maintaining double-digit boat speeds for days or even weeks at a time.
The 70-foot Multi OneDesign Class boasts some of the world's best multihull sailors and provides some of yacht racing's fastest, wildest competition. Yes, a powered-up MOD 70, as they are better known, is simply a sight to behold. And one of the best places to see them, from February 14-16, will be in the blue waters off Sint Maarten, as a pair of them will vie for top honors in this year's Caribbean Multihull Challenge.
Maserati and Argo are the two MOD 70s currently entered in the CMC, and both trimarans are using the event to prepare for the upcoming Caribbean 600, which sets off from Antigua on February 23rd. A third CMC entrant, the 50-foot catamaran Addictive Sailing, is also using the CMC as a tune-up event for the longer ocean race. It's a growing trend, as the timing could not be better, and it provides crews with the ability to really sharpen their skills in close-quarters. The two events dovetail sweetly.
Legendary Italian offshore sailor Giovanni Soldini is the skipper of Maserati, the former Gitana which is now sponsored by the luxury vehicle brand. Soldini is perhaps best known for his rescue of fellow solo sailor Isabelle Autissier after she capsized in the Southern Ocean in the 1999 Around Alone singlehanded round-the-world race. Soldini never stopped competing after that adventure, and has been chasing high-seas records on a variety of vessels ever since.
But Soldini will have his hands full with the other MOD 70 in the CMC, Argo, which was originally known as Oman Sail and skippered by Frenchman Sidney Gavignet when first launched in 2012. Today Argo is owned and captained by U.S. sailor Jason Caroll, a most formidable foe. -- Herb McCormick
35th Pineapple Cup-Montego Bay Race Returns January 2021
Montego Bay, Jamaica: The Montego Bay Yacht Club and Manuka Sports Event Management announced today that the 35th edition of the Pineapple Cup - Montego Bay Race, will start on January 23 and 24, 2021 from Miami. The 2021 edition of the Pineapple Cup will once again have two starts: the PHRF on Saturday, January 23rd and the IRC and Multihull fleets on Sunday, January 24th. 2019 was the first year that multiple starts were implemented as a way to have the majority of the fleet finishing at the same time.
At 811 nautical miles, the Pineapple Cup is one of the oldest offshore yachting races and it also has one of the oldest yachting trophies. The trophy dates back to 1961 where it was handcrafted in London. Throughout the years, the trophy has been awarded to some of the most well known names in yachting including: John Kilroy, Ted Turner and Robert F Johnson. The winner of the 2019 Governor General's Trophy was awarded to the first place team in IRC, which was British entry Lady Mariposa onboard their Ker46.
The current course record was set in 2019 at 2 days, 0 hours, 7 minutes and 44 seconds by Argo a Mod70.

Jimmy Spithill talks all things America's Cup
Spithill has long been a fixture in the America's Cup scene, having first led the Australian entry to the 2000 Cup in Auckland, as skipper of 'Young Australia'. He's skippered in every Cup since, winning for the first time in 2010 at the wheel of Larry Ellison's BMW Oracle Racing. That first win, helming the giant 90 foot trimaran, secured his spot as the Cup's youngest ever winning skipper. In 2013 a succesful defence of the Cup in San Francisco saw Spithill lead the unlikely comeback against a New Zealand Team that was, at 8-1 up, just one race win away from reclaiming the oldest trophy in world sport. Having then lost the defence of the next Cup in Bermuda in 2017, Spithill is now in a key role at the long established Italian team, Luna Rosa.
Jimmy discusses disappointment at losing the Cup in Bermuda, and talks about his current role with the Italian team Luna Rosa Challenge. But he's also very open regarding his time spent sailng with french offshore legend Francois Gabart, and how much he loves the prospect of heading offshore on a foiling multihull. From his passion for surfing and foiling to his competitive spirit and drive to succeed, Spithill's chat with Robertson is illuminating, engaging, and a thoroughly interesting listen.

Glandore Harbour Yacht Club and Royal Cork Yacht Club Team Up for Classic Regattas
July 2020 will see the largest concentration of Classic boats Cork has seen for many years, as the Royal Cork Yacht Club, the worlds oldest yacht club, celebrates its 300th Anniversary, and partners with the famous Glandore Classic Regatta.
The 'Great Gathering' , 3rd to 12th July, will bring hundreds of beautiful boats into Cork Harbour for the start of the Volvo Race Week, 13-17 July. As part of the event, a fleet of around 150 cruisers will leave Cork on 13th July, cruising in company along the Wild Atlantic Way to Dingle, and calling in at many harbours on the way. Meanwhile, Classic boats will race in Cork Harbour 13-15 July and are then encouraged to head for Glandore, in time for the JPF 2020 Glandore Classic Regatta.
The Glandore Classic will start with a spectacular Parade of Sail on Sunday 19th July, followed by four days of racing that can be viewed from Glandore Terrace.
Among the Classic boats expected to attend is Mariette (42 meters long), designed and built in 1915 by Nathaniel G Herreshoff in Bristol, R.I. Captain Nat built every America's Cup defender from 1893-1920, and is a charter member of the America's Cup Hall of Fame.
Other beautiful boats expected to attend include The Blue Peter, Kendra, Twiga, Bloodhound, and the recently restored AK Ilen. We also look forward to welcoming the newly restored Dublin Bay 21's, the Menai Straight Fifes, Cork Harbour One Designs, Dragons, Squibs and Ettes. A start will be provided for one-design classes with a minimum of three entries.
In addition to world class racing, there will be a cruise in company to Castletownshend to the famous Mary Anne's Bar, and the Castle, and lively evening fun with music on the Glandore Terrace, and West Cork Craic in the pubs and restaurants of Glandore, Union Hall and surrounding villages.

Team Trophy Racing now offered in 2020 edition of the Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race
The Newport Ocean Sailing Association (NOSA) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Storm Trysail Club (STC) in promoting team-based racing in the 2020 Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race (N2E), the largest international yacht race in North America. New trophies are being offered by STC for the top three-boat team in this year's 73rd edition of the race that starts on April 24, 2020.
An amendment to the Notice of Race is now published that states prizes will be awarded to the 3-boat team skippers who compile the best team score, as determined by using the total of each team member's percentage placement in its respective class. There is no limitation on the criteria to form a team: it may be composed of members of the same club, alumni from the same school, old shipmates who are now racing different boats, etc - any social, recreational, geographic or cultural affiliation that three entries may have in common is acceptable.
There are numerous classes of monohulls and multihulls racing in the 2020 N2E that include PHRF, ORR, ORCA and an Unlimited class for first-to-finish contenders. Teams may be formed from any three-boat combination of entries from any of these classes provided no more than two are from the same start class. The list of start classes is available after the close of regular entry registration, on or about April 1st, but teams may be registered starting now.
To enter the Storm Trysail Club team competition, sign up on the NOSA website at nosa.org/team-entry. Team entries are accepted up until one week prior to the start, with the deadline set at 1700 April 17th, 2020.
On the verge of embarking on its second season of operation, SailGP has sold a minority stake to global entertainment, sports and content company Endeavor. Endeavor's investment position in SailGP values the global sports property at US$200 million after its highly successful first season.
As part of the investment, SailGP will benefit from access to the Endeavor network's expertise across content production, media rights distribution, creative services, licensing, sponsorships and consumer marketing.
SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts said: "Endeavor's partnership with SailGP represents a pivotal moment in our young and developing history. It strengthens our position going into our second season and signals the projected long-term value of SailGP. This is the start of a new era in our sport, and we couldn't have a better partner than Endeavor."
Endeavor President Mark Shapiro said: "SailGP is transforming the way people view sailing. Beaulieu River Harbour Master Wendy Stowe has joined a council of her peers to safeguard the interests of UK ports and harbours, being appointed as a council member of the UK Harbour Masters' Association (UKHMA).
A great mark of recognition for both Wendy and the award-winning Buckler's Hard Yacht Harbour as a key south coast maritime location, Wendy's appointment sees her represent the southern region while working with her harbour master colleagues on the council at the heart of the organisation.

Greece to introduce fines for rescue operations
Greek authorities are putting into effect a law under which people using boats for recreation, if they disregard severe weather warnings and trigger a search and rescue operation, will be liable for the incurred costs as well as a fine.
Dauphin Telecom has teamed up with the Caribbean Foiling Championships as Communication Partner of the event. Communication in the broadest sense of the word: indispensable to guarantee the safety of the participants. The Dauphin Telecom Data Network will be key in live tracking all competitors during the 3 racing days (February 21-23, 2020).
'Foiling is an extreme sport, nowadays foilers are capable of reaching speeds of over 40 knots (74km/h). Because they are so fast and cover such great distances during races it is sometimes challenging to keep an eye on everybody. Our number one priority is that all competitors are safe on the water and that is why we teamed up with Dauphin telecom as our Communication Partner' says Maxim van den Pol (Organizer of the Caribbean Foiling Championships).
In order to make sure that everybody is safe the organization took several safety precautions. A helmet and a Personal Flotation Device are mandatory for example. The competitors are also bound to stay within 2 miles of the shore and there will be safety boats and jet skis following them.
In addition, the competitors are required to carry a tracking device. This will be in the form of an application that competitors will be able to download on their smartphone. To be able to follow the participants, a GPS signal must be sent. Dauphin Telecom partner in Communications of the event offers the solution. All participants receive a Dauphin Telecom SIM card with the required amount of data. On top of that all competitors receive a waterproof case to keep their phone dry while racing.
