New French Leader In Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup
Breakfast time today saw some furious adding up to resolve the winning team in the high scoring offshore race for the Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup, the Royal Ocean Racing Club's biennial flagship event for three boat teams with Corinthian crews.
Initially France Blue, overall leaders after day one, looked strong with their two big boats, Eric de Turkheim's A13, Teasing Machine, and the Prietz family's JND 39, GOA, in front. As boats started finishing the Flanders North Sea team edged ahead. It wasn't until almost all the boats had finished that the roulette ball finally clunked home on France White, two slender points ahead of their European neighbours.
In fact France White cleaned up. Emmanuel le Men's First 40.7, Pen Koent, took honours in the big boat class while Noel Racine's JPK 1010, Foggy Dew claimed the small boat class. Sadly their third boat, Didier Gaudoux's JND 39 Lann Ael 2, didn't enjoy the same success leaving France White's offshore race score equal with that of Flanders North Sea, only bettered by France Red.
Racing continues Wednesday at the Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup with two more inshore races scheduled.

Last Days In The Med
After four Acts on the Atlantic and three in the Med, the 2016 Tour de France a la Voile is coming to an end, and while event title is likely to go to Lorina Limonade-Golfe du Morbihan, competition is fierce for podium second and third place and for the Young and Amateur title.
With their 55 point lead Quentin Delapierre and Matthieu Salomon are in a good position to take their team to victory in the 2016 Tour de France a la Voile. But who will complete the podium?
Credit Mutuel de Bretagne and Grandeur Nature Verandas are only 2 points apart on the leaderboard and in 4th position, Team Coved is only eight points behind and Aurelien Ducroz and his crew are in top form after scoring a 3rd yesterday in Act 7 stading racing.
The eight racing days in the Atlantic had seen only two different winners, whereas four teams have snatched victory since Roses in just five racing days. All 24 teams are progressing and more of them can pretend for a top performance. Like Pays de l'Or Herault who qualified for stadium racing grand final yesterday in Marseille whilst being in 17th position on overall rankings.
Top 5 is also very open, with only 20 points separating 5th Tresors de Tahiti from 10th Natixis - Defi Yacht-Club de Saint-Lunaire
On the Young and Amateur Rankings, the top 3 is tighter than ever, with only 5 points between current leader Lorina Mojito - Golfe du Morbihan and 3rd Natixis - YCSL. Team France Jeune excels in stadium racing format but still makes some costly mistakes in coastal racing, while young crew Lorina Mojito can offer the best and the average, with last few results as diverse as 14-3-3-12.
Act 8 in Hyeres starts on Wednesday with a coastal race.

World Sailing Provisionally Confirms The Participation Of Six Athletes For The Rio Olympic Games
Following a conference call earlier today with its Board of Directors, World Sailing have provisionally confirmed the participation of six athletes from Russia for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games:

Maksim Oberemko (RS:X Men)
Liudmila Dmitrieva (470 Women)
Alisa Kirilyuk (470 Women)
Sergey Komissarov (Laser Men)
Denis Gribanov (470 Men)
The World Sailing Board carefully reviewed the decision taken earlier this week by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which determined that decisions regarding the eligibility of athletes for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games would be made by the International Federations; the criteria set forth by the IOC to determine eligibility; the rules and procedures of World Sailing; the anti-doping records of each athlete; and the results of the McLaren Investigation Report commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
One athlete, Pavel Sozykin, was denied eligibility, based upon the findings of the McLaren Investigation Report. As Sozykin competes in the 470 Men's Class, which is a two-person racing classification, World Sailing has recommended that the Russian Olympic Committee will have the opportunity to nominate a late athlete replacement.
The decision was communicated today, in writing, to the International Olympic Committee, the Russian Yachting Federation and the individual athletes.
The decision taken by World Sailing must be now be confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The six athletes provisionally confirmed today are in Rio de Janeiro preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games. At the direction of World Sailing, the athletes will be subject to further anti-doping testing and these tests will be sent to a WADA-accredited laboratory for analysis. As with any anti-doping test, an adverse analytical finding would render an athlete ineligible for the Games.
With regard to the upcoming Paralympic Games, no athletes from Russia had achieved the Paralympic Qualification Standard.

Extreme Sailing Series Hamburg
The 2016 Extreme Sailing Series season is now approaching the halfway mark.
With around 10,000 vessels paying a visit to the Port of Hamburg each year, the fleet of seven hydro-foiling GC32s will race in one of Europe's busiest ports, from the 28 - 31 July, on the waters of the River Elbe for the second time in the Series' history.
To accommodate the introduction of the new fleet of boats the race area has been expanded slightly, allowing more room for manoeuvre in the super-fast GC32s. But, with the harbour walls enclosing the course, racing will still be at close quarters.
As the fleet enters the fourth Act of the eight-Act 2016 season, the teams have found their feet in the GC32s. However two teams dominate the leaderboard.
Oman Air and Red Bull Sailing Team have both secured podium spots at every Act, and heading into Hamburg, Oman Air maintain their lead, but Red Bull Sailing Team, skippered by double Olympic gold medallist Roman Hagara, are snapping at their heels.
Due to an injury putting him out of action, Hagara did not compete in the 2015 Hamburg Act, making this his Series debut at the venue, but the Austrian skipper already has plans to dominate the weekend.
Land Rover BAR Academy once again see a reshuffle in the team roster, as British Academy trialist Elliot Hansen makes his debut, but Neil Hunter, the youngest skipper in the fleet at 21, remains in charge.

Comanche Threatens Huge Bite Out Of Transatlantic Record
Comanche, the 100 foot racing yacht owned by Jim Clark and Kristy Hinze-Clark, left New York (USA) on July 22 at 20:58 UTC in hopes of breaking the current monohull transatlantic record from West to East (Ambrose Light Tower to Lizard Point) of 6 days 17 hours 52 minutes and 39 seconds, set by Mari Cha IV in October 2003.
With 822 nautical miles left to sail to the finish of the Transatlantic record (as of 21:30 UTC today) at Lizard Point, UK, Comanche remains 428 nm ahead of Mari Cha IV's 2003 record. The current finish time is on July 28 at 1500 UTC which would take a full 24 hours off the record.
With Comanche skipper Ken Read committed to TV commentating at the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series in Portsmouth, England, over the weekend, the world class crew will be led by experienced sailors Casey Smith, Tony Mutter, Richard Clarke and Navigator Stan Honey. Due to other commitments, Comanche is also missing regular crewmen Kelvin Harrap, Warwick Fluery, Jimmy Spithill and Ryan Godfrey.
British Boys Bounce Back To Control Second Day Of Quiberon Ok Dinghy Worlds
Jim Hunt (GBR) has taken the lead at the 2016 OK Dinghy World Championship after two more tricky and shifty races in Quiberon, France. He won the first race by a comfortable margin, before Charlie Cumbley (GBR) then overtook him in the second race to take the win. Hunt now leads by nine points from Cumbley, with Bo Petersen (DEN) in third.
The day began unusually grey and cloudy with a patchy wind over the race course.
New championship leader, Hunt, said, "It was shifty, difficult, patchy, lots of pressure lanes. And the breeze came from the left, but didn't cross the course so it was filling in in stripes. You couldn't just take a small hit to go across. As soon as someone got some leverage on you, you just had to put up with it and hope."
"I got lucky both times. I wasn't really patting myself on the back today. I knew I was lucky to get out both times. The competition is good here and I think I need to do some more practice. The standard is very high."

New S&S Nautor Swan Class Announced For Hamble Classics Regatta
The Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble is hosting and managing the racing for the inaugural Hamble Classics Regatta on 24-25th September 2016. Yachts already confirmed for this event include:

In addition to Classic Yachts of pre-1971 design, the International Metre classes, Classic Racers and Cruisers, Spirit of Tradition yachts plus Old Gaffers and Dayboats, organisers are delighted to announce a class for all Sparkman and Stephens-designed Nautor Swans. The Swan 36 Finola and Swan 38 White Heather are already entered.

The Hamble Classics will feature IRC class racing for yachts not in one-design or level racing classes (e.g. XOD and 6-Metres), or gaff rigged yachts sailing under OGA system handicaps (with thanks to Sue Pennison of the Solent OGA who will be processing the handicaps).
For those yachts currently without an IRC certificate, a low cost Single Event Rating (SER) is available from the RORC Rating Office. You can apply for an IRC SER rating as early as you like but the rating will only be issued a maximum of one month before the event, so don't delay as it can take 28 days to be processed.
