Juniors On High Noon Take 'Traditional' Line Honours
High Noon has captured 'Traditional' line honours in the combined St David's & Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Divisions in the 2016 Newport Bermuda Race. This is an amazing accomplishment for the Young American Junior Big Boat Sailing Team from American Yacht Club (Rye, NY). They sailed High Noon, a Tripp 41 on loan from US Merchant Marine Academy Sailing Foundation, across the finish line at 9:07:05 EDT.
High Noon was the second boat in the fleet to finish overall. Comanche, Jim and Kristy Hinze Clark's 100-footer, smashed the Open record when she finished at 4:22:53 EDT on Sunday breaking the elapsed time record with a professional crew. High Noon sailed in the St. David's Lighthouse Division, Class 10 with a mostly amateur crew of seven young sailors ranging in age from 15 to 18 along with three adults. She is the second smallest boat to take line honors... smallest was Thomas Fleming Days 38 footer Tamerlane.
"This Bermuda Race was the culmination of at least three years of work by these juniors," said Peter Becker, one of the project's leaders. "First they did overnight distance races, then weekend races, and then they looked for opportunities to sail offshore."
High Noon is in line to win the St. David's Lighthouse for the best corrected time in her division and four other major prizes, at least, including the first Stephens Brothers Youth Division Prize. -- Talbot Wilson
Figaro: Suzuki Trophy For Yoann Richomme
A 18h01mn and 55 seconds (French time), Yoann Richomme rounded the Wolf Rock lighthouse located off the southwestern tip of Cornwall and won Trophy Suzuki honors. Under spinnaker, with a light wind of 8 knots, the skippers are headed to Cowes and the Isle of Wight distant 180 miles. 6 minutes later followed Charlie Dalin (Skipper Macif 2015) and Nicolas Lunven (Generali). The first 5 rounded within 10 minutes. The top ten in 36 minutes.

The first leg started from Deauville, around the Owers mark in the English Channel, then west to Wolf Rock and then to finish in Cowes. Distance: 510 miles.

Following on from the DSS-equipped Infiniti 36 fast daysailer, the first Infiniti 46R has just completed sea trials in the south of France. The Infiniti 46R has been developed as an offshore/coastal race yacht for the classic 600-miler races such as the Sydney Hobart, Fastnet Race, Middle Sea Race and the Newport-Bermuda. Hull no1, Maverick, will debut shortly at the 2016 Giraglia. Designed by DSS creator Hugh Welbourn and engineered by Gurit, it is also built using Gurit carbon pre-preg with an M-Foam core.
GAC Pindar Triumphant In Gothenburg
Ian Williams and his team GAC Pindar managed to bring out their best game in the deciding races of M32 Series Scandinavia in Gothenburg. They ended the action filled final day with a win that put them on top of the podium.
Despite the rain, there were great sailing conditions during the final day of M32 Series Scandinavia Gothenburg with wind at up to 15 knots. Spectators saw more lead changes than earlier in the event on the tight race course and good boat handling proved to be crucial. The day opened with tight racing and the teams battled for the six spots in the finals where double points where awarded and added to the earlier results.
Taylor Canfield had a disappointing end of the regatta but Us One still maintain their overall lead in the series.
The next stage of the M32 Series Scandinavia will be held in Aarhus, Denmark followed by an event in Helsinki, Finland. The final event takes place in Stockholm, Sweden in September.

Transition Time At Kieler Woche
Kiel Week reaches the traditional transition phase today when the non-Olympic classes are decided and the silverware is distributed before the Olympic classes take over the race arenas for four days of racing before Sunday's showdown Medal Races.
The 470 Junior World Championships start Wednesday and have attracted 85 crews racing in Men's and Women's fleets. The Men's field sees France's Guillaume Pirouelle and Valentin Sipan out to defend their title as Italy's Benedetta di Salle and Alessandra Dubini seek to do also in the Women's championship.
Britain's Andy Smith and Tim Needham might also start to think about their 505 World Championships prospects in a slightly different light after clinching the high calibre 505 Class for the first time. Smith cites their victory as their biggest triumph yet, winning with a race to spare. Three British boats finish in the top five, with Ian Pinnell and Alex Davies taking third in the 50 boat fleet.
Some of the world's most involved brands and stakeholders have confirmed their participation at the Yacht Racing Forum, six months prior to the event. Held for the ninth consecutive time in 2016, the leading conference for the business of yacht racing will once again deliver important ideas and concepts, and open up new business opportunities for the sports' key actors and brands.

Hamble Yacht Services has taken title sponsorship of the One Ton Cup, to be held in September. The One Ton Cup has been adopted by the highly successful Fast 40+ Class while the Royal Southern Yacht Club will organise the inshore racing programme over three days from 16th - 18th September 2016.
As part of the company's support Hamble Yacht Services will provide free berthing to all competing boats, along with access to all onshore facilities, including showers, catering and a lounge area with wifi at the HYS Events Centre situated right on the waterfront.
Around 14 of the state of the art high performance racing yachts are expected to enter the event and whilst more than two thirds of the Fast 40+ fleet is permanently based at HYS, the remaining Cowes based competitors can be assured of a warm welcome.

The Volvo Ocean Race has made key changes to its Leadership Team, including the appointment of race management expert Phil Lawrence as new Race Director.
The re-shuffle, which follows Mark Turner's appointment as CEO in March this year, is aimed at driving innovation and growth of sailing's premier offshore race.
Lawrence is currently Race Director of the Extreme Sailing Series, and arrives with bags of sailing and commercial expertise, having previously managed events in all of the territories that the Volvo Ocean Race will visit during the 2017-18 edition.
A former Olympian, he will continue to fulfil his role with the Extreme Sailing Series alongside his new Volvo Ocean Race responsibilities until the end of the year.
Lawrence will work closely with current Race Director, Jack Lloyd, who will remain as a Race Adviser. Lloyd has held the post of Race Director for three editions, and has overseen several key evolutions in the event's history, including, most recently, the transition to one-design boats.
Miles Quitmann is to join the Volvo Ocean Race in a newly-created but key commercial role of Chief Business Development Officer, with a focus on developing new relationships with potential sponsors for both teams and the event in the future.
Miles co-founded Europe's first electronic billing and payments platform, which was acquired by a FTSE 250 company, and more recently he was a founding investor and Chief Commercial Officer of mobile marketing and payments company, Proxama PLC.
He is also a passionate offshore sailor and has planned and led several extreme sailing projects, including a record breaking double-handed voyage from the United Kingdom to Antarctica; a double rounding of Cape Horn; and a 15,000 mile single-handed return from Chile to the United Kingdom.

Henri Lloyd will be supporting the Ker 40+ race yacht Invictus for the 2016 FAST40+ race circuit.
Henri Lloyd will be kitting out the race team as they compete in the inaugural Fast 40+ season, which will take place on the Solent from April through to October.
In edition to the Henri Lloyd Phoenix Range which was worn by the team in 2015, the race crew will also adorn the Henri Lloyd Energy Jacket.
Invictus is owned by Sir Keith Mills, who will share the helming this season with his son Alex. Sir Keith's long term skipper Rob Greenhalgh sails as tactician & crew boss. The boat is named after the William Henley poem published in 1888, which was the inspiration for the Invictus Games, which Sir Keith setup with Prince Harry in 2014. The line from the final stanza of the poem 'I AM the master of my fate' adorns the boom.
Australian yacht-builder McConaghy Boats has chosen Bach Yachting International to represent the company's race boats in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
New yachts in the McConaghy range are the MC31 and the Ker 40+. The MC31 is a high performance, Grand Prix racer that follows in the footsteps of the popular MC38.
The Ker 40+ is a fast offshore yacht that was specifically designed for higher performance on the racetrack but more importantly to win races on IRC and ORCi handicap systems. It has a large open cockpit for easty sail handling and crew work and is fitted out with a practical interior that complies with handicap regulations.
Bach Yachting is confident that the huge success of the Fast 40 class in the UK will blow over to the continent of Europe. The Ker 40+, the Botin 40 and the Mills 41, all from the McConaghy stable, will be the boats to beat in that class.

* From Don Street: Don Street has checked with the heads of the Dragon associations of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland and Gypsy Anker and Jensen 1933 is the oldest dragon in the world.
Don at 85 many thought was the oldest dragon sailor still racing but as noted in Scuttlebutt Europe, Gordon Ingate at 88 is not only older but he is racing at the top of the class. He has just won the Tasmania Australia Gold Cup. He is almost always a podium placer in all regattas he enters.
But Don feels he may be having more fun, five minutes from his house to his 18 foot clinker/lapstrake dinghy, five minutes to ROW to Gypsy on a swinging mooring, five minutes to the starting line.
He races Gypsy locally in the Glandore fleet, all fiberglass dragons. He gives the kids(anyone under 60 is a kid) a very hard time occasionally winning and always having more fun. The kids in their fiber glass boats have to drink warm beer but Don drinks "bilge cooled beer! "
At the end of racing no problem with drink drive laws. We have two pubs 5 minutes walk from the pier, another ten minute walk, so I drink but do not drive
