Scarlino, Tuscany, Italy: Broad smiles around the Marina di Scarlino told the story of Races 3 and 4 for the 52 SUPER SERIES' Scarlino Cup and without doubt the most contented crew were that of Ergin Imre's Provezza. Not only did the Turkish flagged team win both races but they led at every mark, even the margins at times were mere metres. It was a nice early season payback to the hugely supportive and enthusiastic owner Imre who invested heavily through this last winter, ordering a new, stiffer rig and new foils and enhanced their sail programme in a clearly defined quest to stand on the podium at the end of this season.
With the 9-13kts breeze round more to the south than Day 1 there was an acknowledged advantage on the left side of the upwind, closer to the beneficial influence of the land.

Where Continents Collide
Istanbul is an extraordinary collision of cultures, history, art and architecture. Europe meets Asia, ancient meets modern. The Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup, where racing at the 15th edition starts tomorrow (Friday, 27 May) and runs until Sunday, 29 May, has done much in its comparatively short life to build on the reputation of this remarkable location and to project the elements that make the city a "must-see", for anyone interested in the world history or culture, and the event a "must-do" on the international yacht-racing calendar.
For the 58 yachts gathered in Kalamis Marina on the north-eastern shore of the Marmara, at the southern entrance to the Bosphorus, three days of racing lie ahead. Friday and Sunday comprise short-course windward/leeward racing for the majority of the fleet, with a coastal course for two classes. On Saturday, 28 May everyone engages in the main event, the Race on the Bosphorus, where the course lies between two continents and offers not just the usual tactical challenge, but a test of navigational skill and concentration in the face of remarkable architectural and scenic distractions.
Delta Lloyd Regatta
For the third day in row competitors at the 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik had another different set of conditions to contend with. Early morning glassy water slowly changed into an onshore 7-12 knots. With all classes now including drop races, the form for the week is taking shape. In the 2016 Para Sailing World Championship, there are new leaders in the 2.4 Norlin OD and Sonar classes, while some of the favourites made great strides closer to the top across all three fleets.
The day started with a calm and windless IJsselmeer and definite prospects of lengthy postponements. In the end the first classes, the Laser, 2.4 Norlin OD, 49er and the Skud were released just after 12.00, some of them already nearly three hours behind schedule. Everyone knew it was going to be a long day. The Moth class didn't even start racing until after 17.00
For the Olympic classes, Friday is the last day of qualification before Saturday's medal races, while the Paralympic classes have two more races before Saturday's final race.

Third New Championship Leader In Three Days
Hayama, Japan: Three solid race results from Great Britain's Paul Goodison puts his name at the top of the leaderboard on day 3 at the 2016 YANMAR Moth World Championships in Hayama, Japan.
Goodison, the 2008 Olympic Gold medallist in the Laser Class, holds a 1 point advantage from overnight leader Chris Rashley (GBR), with third to Scott Babbage (AUS).
Increasing waves and a steady breeze of 13-15 knots rewarded those with experience in big sea conditions. Too much for some, as gear failure and physical fatigue forced them off the race track.
Goodison familiarized himself with the particular nuances of big waves in Hayama Bay yesterday, ratcheting up today's performance to score a 1,1,3, compared to Rashley's 3,2,2.

Locals Vying For Three Remaining Slots At World Match Racing Tour Newport
Eight teams, two of them with Rhode Island skippers and crews, will be sailing this Thursday through Saturday at Sail Newport in the Newport Match Race, a qualifier event to see who will win the three remaining berths of 20 available at next week's World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) Newport.
Rhode Island skippers entering the qualifying series are Malcolm Gefter (Newport) and Michael Dominguez (Barrington). With their respective Lift Off and Bronco crews, Gefter and Dominguez are members of the M32 Fleet established in Newport in 2014, so their relatively long tenure in the speedy catamarans should serve to their advantage.
The qualifiers entail match racing exclusively, while the main event next week calls for two days of fleet racing in order to get the seeding for the knock-out match racing rounds.
By Wednesday, only 16 teams, called the "Super 16," will be left, and Craig Mitchell will rack them into a tennis-type ladder for the first-to-three-points match racing elimination that continues through Thursday. "Eight teams go to the quarter finals (Friday), and in the end the first seed sails the second seed in the finals. Those are scheduled for Saturday (June 4, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.) after Semi-Finals the same day. An Awards Ceremony will immediately follow the conclusion of racing at Fort Adams.

At a specially called General Meeting last Friday, Yachting Australia's Member State & Territory Associations unanimously approved the change of the company's name to Australian Sailing. The change of name embodies the most significant organisational reforms in the sport's history which are in the final stages of delivery.
President Matt Allen said that changing the name was not just a branding exercise but makes a clear statement of intent that the organisational reforms well underway are about Sailing gearing itself to compete as a successful sport in Australia.
"Over the past 18 months, Yachting Australia and our Member State Associations have made a huge undertaking in changing to a national governance and streamlined management structure, so we can work with our network of clubs and classes to build a strong and sustainable sport. "
The change was proposed after consultation by Yachting Australia with the Member Yachting Associations and clubs. A new contemporary script has been used with a repositioning of the sail/wave logo. The name is effective immediately and will be rolled out progressively. There is no change to the Australian Sailing Team name or logo, representing the performance pathway.

The Island Sailing Club (ISC), organisers of the prestigious annual Round the Island Race off the Isle of Wight, has appointed Catalyst Consultants to act as its commercial partnerships agency.
Catalyst is working with the ISC developing the commercial programme for the 2017 race onwards. Massimo Dighe, a London 2012 Paralympic sailor, has been appointed as Para World Sailing Manager for World Sailing, the governing body of the sport.
Dighe campaigned in the Sonar for London 2012, sailing alongside Antonio Squizzato and Paola Protopapa. After finishing 12th at London 2012, Dighe joined the former IFDS Athletes' Council before his appointment to the Para World Sailing Committee in 2015.
The Italian will start work at World Sailing's Executive Office in early July and will be responsible for promoting and developing Para World Sailing with the objective of sailing being reinstated to the 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Maritime Skills Academy is launching its new state-of-the-art Marine Survival Complex on 20 June.
Based in Whitfield near Dover, the new complex will enable the academy to extend the number of courses it offers. This includes a wide portfolio of MCA accredited Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) courses.
The Maritime Skills Academy aims to provide vital training for the maritime industry.
In-house trainers offer both open and bespoke training courses for the global maritime industry, including cruise ships, superyachts, renewable support vessels and the oil and gas sector. The complex will be officially opened by Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE, chief executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, alongside Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN director general, Seafarers UK.

Solent Refit in the UK has secured a 30-year lease on the shipyard and is now seeking to improve the facilities further. The expansion plans include waterfront offices that will overlook the Southampton estuary.
The company hopes the new space will give clients, guests and subcontractors a place to work and carry out project meetings in a modern and relaxed surrounding. There will also be a lounge area and a gym for crew and guests.
In addition, the opening of a chandlery on site to service the surrounding area is also in the pipeline.
The 10,000sq m undercover working halls can house around 10 vessel of 30m, 2 yachts of 45m and 2 units of 65m outside. In 2008 the facility had a £1m new roof installed.
