Thibaut Vauchel-Camus Races To Class40 Victory
Covering a total 3804nm between Plymouth and New York, the 37-year-old sailor was greeted by the iconic Manhattan skyline and Lady Liberty herself after 17 days, 12 hours, 42 minutes and 56 seconds at sea.
His striking sky blue boat recorded an average speed of 9.04 knots, often setting the pace of the Class40 fleet.
Runner up in the 2014 Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe and finishing fourth in the 2015 Transat Jacque Vabre, Vauchel-Camus was an early favourite going into the race and today he is hailed the winner.
* French skipper Pierre Antoine crossed The Transat bakerly finish line at Sandy Hook off New York in the early hours of this morning, taking third place and completing the Multi50 podium aboard his trimaran Olmix.
Antoine crossed the finish line at 04:59 BST after 16 days, 14 hours, 29 minutes and 23 seconds at sea, travelling at an average speed of 9.34 knots over 3,721nm of open Atlantic ocean. He arrived in New York four days, seven hours, nine minutes and six seconds behind winning Multi50 Gilles Lamire aboard French Tech Rennes St Malo. Lalou Roucayrol took second place aboard Arkema.
Vice Admiral's Cup
A full range of weather conditions is forecast for one of the best fleets of racing yachts seen at the event since its conception in 2005. With planing conditions forecast for the entire weekend, there will be a flurry of action on tight Solent courses. Two separate racing areas will be in operation with up to three races per day for the three-day regatta. Eight races are scheduled with the discard rule coming into play when six or more races have been completed.
Top of the bill will be the Fast 40+ Class and this year's event will also feature the first regatta for the HP 30 Class. The Quarter Tonner Class will join the Fast 40+ and HP 30 Class rated under IRC and there are three one-design classes, level rating; J/111, J/109 and SB20 Sportsboats.
Six pocket rockets are expected to contest the first ever HP 30 Class, including Lloyd Thornburg's FOMO. The RORC Caribbean 600 multihull record holder will be joined by Brian Thompson, along with several MOD70 crew from Phaedo3. Thorkild Juncker's Open 7.50 Cool Runnings will also be racing with 'speed doctor' Jochem Visser as part of the crew.

Israel Optimistic For Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup
Since last October when Richard Loftus, well-known owner of the Swan 65 Desperado, announced their participation in this year's Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup, it has been a busy time for the Israeli team. Omer Brand, one of Israel's few professional big boat sailors was recruited as Team Captain.
The team has since secured three of the top British IRC race boats to represent them:
David Frank's 2012 IRC National Championship-winning JPK 10.10, Strait Dealer
Peter Morton's 2015 IRC National Championship winning JND 35, Salvo
Andy William's Ker 40 Keronimo, 'big boat' in the winning British Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup team in 2012.
While the owners of these three boats will be on board for the regatta, the majority of their crew will be Israeli sailors. As Omer Brand, for five years a Southampton resident, states: "This is the first time that an Israeli team will be sailing in an event like this, and we want to use it as a platform to promote yacht racing in the country."
Israel is strong in Olympic sailing, especially windsurfing with Gal Fridman winning Bronze and Gold in Atlanta and Athens and Shahar Tzuberi claiming bronze in Beijing, plus the likes of Udi Gal in the 470 Men and Gil Cohen in the 470 Women, the Shental brothers, Erez Shemesh and Shai Bachar.
The aim of the British Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup campaign is also to start getting Israeli teams to compete in bigger events internationally.
The campaign is being funded by benefactors in both the UK (such asTeam Principal, Richard Loftus) and in Israel.
Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, the Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup is the club's biennial grand prix for amateur crews. Racing takes place over 23rd-30th July on a mix of inshore and offshore courses in the Solent and around the English Channel.
Final Four Sailors For Rio 2016 Olympic Games Named By Team GB
The final four sailors who will take to the water for Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games have today been announced by the British Olympic Association (BOA).
Luke Patience and Chris Grube will compete in the men's 470, while Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign complete the squad in the 49er after a close British selection battle.
For Fletcher, Sign and Grube, Rio 2016 will be their first Olympic outing, with Grube having teamed up with Patience following Elliot Willis's cancer diagnosis at the end of 2015. Patience already has an Olympic medal to his name - a 470 silver he picked up with Stuart Bithell at London 2012.
The first group of sailors was announced back in September with further names being added in March and today's announcement completes the 15-strong sailing line-up that will head to Rio 2016.
Team GB lead the way in sailing at the Olympic Games and sit atop the overall standings with 55 medals accrued since 1986 - including 26 golds.

Twenty Eight For The Transat Quebec Saint Malo Start Line
Quebec, Canada: The official registration list for the 9th edition of the Transat Qu+bec Saint-Malo, presented in collaboration with the City of Levis, is now known. In total, there are 28 sailing ships from Quebec, France, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Spain, Germany, Sweden, and the Sultanate of Oman, with crews ranging from 3 to 12 people, that will be starting from Quebec City on July 10th to arrive on French soil 8 to 15 days later.
Class40, Multi50, Open Class and Ultimate
With the participation of 19 Class40, five Multi50, two Open class and two Ultimate class monohull ships (see registration list), and including the highly-anticipated 131-foot (40m) multihull Spindrift 2 and the last-registered MOD70 Musandam-Oman Sail, the crossing promises to be captivating.
A staggered start is planned for both Ultimate Class trimarans, which will attempt to beat the crossing record of 7 days and 20 hours, established in 1996 by Loïck Peyron on Fujicolor II, an Orma trimaran measuring 60 feet. For Sidney Gavignet, skipper of the trimaran Musandam-Oman Sail,, this will be a third time participating in this mythical race which, according to him, is a memorable one for all sailors who participate. "The Transat Quebec Saint-Malo is a classic," he specifies. "In a sailor's career, this race is an event one does not forget, with its lot of adventures and memories!" Part of his crew is an Irishman now living in Quebec, Damian Foxall.
From July 2nd to 31st, spectators will also have a chance to visit the Transat Village in the Old Port of Quebec City

Another 'crazy' Day On The Clipper Race
Day 20 in the PSP Logistics Panama Cup and Race 10 appears to be slipping into slow motion as the leading teams tackle the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) - the dreaded Doldrums. With the conditions only likely to become more frustrating the Race Office has decided to use the latest compulsory gate as the finish line.
Boats will have until 1200 UTC tomorrow (20 May) to cross the 'Remedios' Gate. Those that haven't crossed will have their distance from it measured to determine the remaining places, which will enable these teams to see how their current tactics play out in determining their final positions.
The teams will then be able to use their engines to make best speed to Panama in time for the scheduled canal transit window. They will refuel, as planned, en route.
Alcatel J/70 Cup
San Remo, Italy: Forty teams from six different nations over the weekend sailed off San Remo, Italy. The fleet was treated to fairly strong winds from the east for all six races that were scheduled, sailed under the careful direction of the race committee chaired by Fulvio Parodi.
Carlo Alberini's CALVI NETWORK with tactician Branko Brcin took the victory for Act II of the Alcatel J/70 Cup series after a thrilling tussle with the L'ELAGAIN's skipper Franco Solerio (with tactician Daniele Cassinari). Third place went to a beautiful new entry in the ranks of the Italian class J/70- the ENFANT TERRIBLE team of Alberto Rossi with Alberto Bolzan as tactician. Fourth, was the team on BEPPE ZAVANONE helmed by Andrea Magni with Lorenzo Bressani on tactics and in fifth place was Corinthian Spells (Zampori-Sommariva).
At this stage, the Alcatel J/70 Cup championship series have counted ten races after two events, so the teams now have two discards each. As a result, Solerio's L'ELAGAIN team is leading the overall standings by virtue of winning the Monaco Spring Cup a few weeks ago and placing second in the San Remo event. Completing the series podium for the moment is Alberini's CALVI NETWORK as runner-up and third is MAGIE- Alex Zampori's team that is also leading the Corinthians Division overall.
The next round of the Alcatel J/70 Cup will take place in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, from the 3rd to 5th of June. The third leg of the circuit will be hosted by YC Costa Smeralda- host for the 2017 J/70 World Championship.
British Figaro racer Alan Roberts secured third place, his third top-10 finish of 2016 on Saturday ahead of the Solitaire Bompard Le Figaro in June.
After sailing 284 miles of some of the most challenging French Atlantic coastline, from Granville to Le Havre, Roberts finished the Solo Normandie in third place on Vasco de Gama.
The British solo racer from Southampton was just 17 minutes behind race-winner Alexis Loison (Groupe Fiva) and eight minutes behind Damien Cloarec (Saferail) in second. Fifteen competitors took part.
This podium finish for Roberts follows his 10th place in the Solo Concarneau and 6th in the Solo Maître Coq and it continues his impressive build-up to the Solitaire where he will be looking for a second consecutive top-10 finish overall after coming 9th last year.
The next race for the rookies is the big one; the 1,425-mile Solitaire Bompard Le Figaro, that starts on 19th June from Deauville.
